23.01.2022 Last night we had the pleasure of surprising our Chairperson, Yvonne with her Order Of St. John Medal presentation. To receive this honour is a huge achievement for her dedication & commitment. Were proud to share this momentous occasion with you. The Order of St John The Order of St John is a major international charity, accredited to the United Nations, whose organisations provide first aid, health care and support services in over 40 countries around the world. 23.01.2022 Congratulations to Thom, who tonight was presented with his WA Young Volunteer of the Year award for 2020.

23.01.2022 With more people visiting our beautiful town and beaches during these holidays, you may like to make yourself familiar with the locations of BEN signs. What are BEN signs? Beach Emergency Numbers (BEN) signs aim to improve emergency response times by providing accurate location information. Quote this information in an emergency or when reporting a shark sighting. How do you use them? In an emergency, dial 000 and quote the unique code and location information on the nearest BEN sign.

23.01.2022 It’s finally up!!! How fantastic does the new Mingenew Sub Centre sign look.

12.01.2022 Do you think youd have what it takes to get up in the night to attend a traumatic car accident without even being paid? Thats everyday stuff for St John Am...bulance volunteers. Irwin sub-centre chairperson Yvonne Cangemi recently won an Order of St John Medal for her dedication. The award recognises, not only a decade of volunteering as an ambulance driver and officer, but also her efforts to form a fund for sub-centres across the Midwest.

11.01.2022 Men are statistically less likely to seek medical aid when suffering from a medical condition, both physical or mental. According to Men's Health Week, a male h...as a life expectancy of 78.0 years while females can expect to live to 82.3 years old. Men also take their own lives at 4 times the rate of women - on average, that's 5 men a day. This Men's Health Week, we want to help raise awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early treatment of illnesses that affect men. We all have the power to change this. Tag a mate and help us raise awareness. We thank you for supporting this initiative. More information about Men's Health Week can be found here: https://www.menshealthweek.org.au/

06.01.2022 In a split second, you know something has gone horribly wrong. You stop abruptly as you struggle to breathe. Sharp, intense pain spreads through your chest and ...panic sets in. For some, this sounds very familiar. Choking is a terrifying experience and having someone with you who knows first aid could be the difference between life and death. More than 80 people die from choking each year in Australia. It's the second largest cause of death in aged care and the leading cause of injury or death in children aged four and under. The Heimlich manoeuvre is not the recommended method anymore for helping someone who is choking. Instead, deliver 5 sharp back blows in between the patient's shoulder blades. If this is unsuccessful, deliver up to 5 chest thrusts. Continue to alternate between the two techniques and always ensure you have called Triple Zero (000) for help. If the casualty becomes unresponsive, commence CPR and make sure the ambulance is on its way. The signs and symptoms for choking are: Clutching the throat. Coughing, wheezing or gagging. Having difficulties breathing, speaking or swallowing. Trying to cry but making strange or no sounds at all. Making whistling or crowing sounds. Face, neck, lips, ears or fingernails turning blue. Becoming unresponsive. Download your free choking guide here: https://bit.ly/2B3Iqr7

06.01.2022 You may have noticed a few new defibrillators appearing around town, some of their locations being... 92 Brennand Rd 38611 Pickering Drive Chivers Concourse... 06.01.2022 A great opportunity to raise awareness and have a conversation with a mate..no matter how awkward the situation may be. Check on a mate, colleague or family member. Sometimes that prompt is all they may need.

06.01.2022 Do you know an Emergency Medical Assistant (EMA) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) that volunteers at one of the 160 Sub Centres across WA? The Dongara Sub Centre is excited to announce that we are now open to Voluntourism opportunities and would love to have clinically trained volunteers come for a holiday whilst volunteering in our great town! Accomodation and fuel costs will be covered and a meal allowance will be provided. ... If you, or someone you know, is interested in this opportunity, please get in touch with our Secretary, Trudy, on 0439 962 365.

03.01.2022 2020 has proven to be an incredibly challenging year, especially for all the First Responders across the country. They were there for us when the bush fires sta...rted and they were there for us when COVID-19 hit our communities. One thing's for certain... they have never stopped giving back - not for one second. Today we're thanking all First Responders far and wide, for their dedication and commitment to helping members of the community when they needed it most. Thank you for keeping us safe and thank you for never giving up. Thank a first responder in the comments or share this post, we want to spread the love as far as we can! 02.01.2022 The importance of knowing CPR, you never know when you may need to use it. Congratulations to these officers. Such a wonderful outcome, thanks to their quick thinking and knowledge.

01.01.2022 Rural road fatalities contributed to two thirds of last year's national road toll. According to the Australian Road Safety Foundation, speed is the number one d...riving issue on WA regional roads, with distraction and fatigue not far behind. 835 drivers tragically lost their lives last year, on regional roads across Australia. While it may be tempting to drive at high speeds, check your phone or operate your vehicle when fatigued, it is not worth your life. Please be mindful on our roads, and remember to enjoy the ride, safely.
