24.01.2022 3rd Sunday after Epiphany answering God’s call with alacrity Today is the 3rd Sunday after Epiphany, and the theme is again the calling of Jesus’ disciples. Whereas in last week’s Gospel reading we heard the account of Philip inviting Nathanael to ‘come and see’ Jesus; in today’s Gospel reading of Mark 1:14-20 we read of Jesus calling Andrew and Peter, and then James and John. In his sermon, Fr Greg explores the urgency found in Mark’s Gospel to tell of the Good News of Jesus Christ, and challenges us to i) read the Gospel of Mark in its entirety in one sitting (it should take about an hour) and ii) reflect on what God might be calling you to do, say and be 2021.

23.01.2022 I love this - it's a reminder that there are different ways to pray - and words are not always needed.

22.01.2022 2nd Sunday of Mission Awareness Month the 5 Marks of Mission Today is the 2nd Sunday in a series over 3 weeks focussing on Mission. The 5 Marks of Mission are a further reminder that the mission of the Church is Christ’s mission: ever seeking healing and reconciliation of creation back to God. In the Gospel reading of John 13:31-35, we hear of Jesus’ charge to his followers, to love each other as he has loved us. In his sermon, Fr Greg explores the Gospel to love each other alongside the 5 Marks of Mission of the Anglican Church: to proclaim the Good News, teach the faith, serve others, transform unjust structures of society, and safeguard creation.

21.01.2022 An insightful reinterpretation of the 10 Commandments that further enriches our understanding of God's will for us.

21.01.2022 Today we look at praying the Lord's Prayer a little differently.

20.01.2022 2nd Sunday after Epiphany the invitation to invite In the Gospel reading of John 1:43-51 we read of Philip’s conversation with Nathanael, whereby Philip invites Nathanael to come and see Jesus for himself. In his sermon, Fr Greg explores this conversation, and encourages Christians today to follow in the example of Philip in inviting others to encounter Jesus. It is not up to us to convince, persuade or cajole people to encounter the Holy Spirit; rather, our role as the Body of Christ is to live Jesus’ truths and to extend invite to others to encounter Jesus for themselves.

19.01.2022 As the Body of Christ, as God's hands and feet, what do you think this implies for the Church in today's world?

18.01.2022 2nd Sunday of Mission Awareness Month the 5 Marks of Mission For those of you who are short on time or just want to hear the sermon again... 18.01.2022 I don't know if anyone can ever truly understand prayer, and perhaps we're not meant to. Perhaps prayer is more about the realisation of our absolute reliance on God and a need for us to trust in him.

16.01.2022 3rd Sunday after Epiphany answering God’s call with alacrity Whereas in last week’s Gospel reading we heard the account of Philip inviting Nathanael to ‘come and see’ Jesus; in today’s Gospel reading of Mark 1:14-20 we read of Jesus calling Andrew and Peter, and then James and John. 15.01.2022 Mission Awareness Month the Mission Dei For those of you who are short on time or just want to hear the sermon again... In the Gospel reading of John 3:16-17, we hear of God’s mission begun at the dawn of time, culminating with Jesus, and continuing with the Church to save the world because God so loves the world. In his sermon, Fr Greg explores the implications of the quote ‘that it is not the Church that has a mission, but our God of mission that has a Church’, and what this means for all of us in practical terms, here in this here, here at this time.

12.01.2022 Sermon for the 1st Sunday of Advent

08.01.2022 Today I introduce Advent, the time for us to prepare our hearts for Christmas.

08.01.2022 3rd Sunday of Mission Awareness Month Transactional vs Transformation Mission For those of you who are short on time or just want to hear the sermon again... In the Gospel reading of John 20:19-23, we hear of Jesus bestowing peace on his disciples, and breathing on them so as to send them out in the power of the Holy Spirit. In his sermon, Fr Greg explores the Gospel reading and that of James 2:20 ‘faith without works is barren’.

07.01.2022 So we have known and believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them. (1 John 4:16)

06.01.2022 That time of the year is rapidly approaching Please make a note in your diaries for our Christmas Services this year at St John's Hervey Bay.

06.01.2022 *NOTICE FOR KIDS' CHURCH TOMORROW* I think that everyone will agree that it has been a wonderful experience having kids church around family group tables within the church and service and so this isn't changing, however for tomorrow we want to give the children some creative and physical freedom. For tomorrow we will be taking the kids into the church hall and offereing a wide variety of craft activities. If you've been wondering about a good time to come and check out what we do, or if you've been wondering about returning, tomorrow would be a great day for it. Just an FYI though, there will be paperwork to be completed for this activity, so I'll need to see you in the morning. - Can't wait, Lauren

05.01.2022 The Celtic heritage and wisdom of the Anglican Church has always had a beautiful resonance with me. For those who love history... Many people assume that the Anglican Church was created when Henry VIII broke away from the Roman Catholic Church in the 16th Century. However, Christianity was established in Britain centuries before Augustine arrived in the 6th century under the direction of Pope Gregory the Great to bring Christianity to the British Isles. Upon his arrival in Britain, Augustine found Christianity already established (though not under the governance of the Vatican). It is arguable that the Anglican Church, obviously not in its current form, has existed since the 1st or 2nd century, and our prayers, poetry, wonder of creation and love of God have all been blessed and enriched by our Celtic heritage.

04.01.2022 3rd Sunday of Mission Awareness Month Transactional vs Transformational Mission Today is the 3rd Sunday in a series over 3 weeks focussing on Mission. Transactional vs Transformational Mission is distinct in that the former is based on a one-off event, whereas the latter is grounded on an ongoing relationship.

03.01.2022 Memorial Service celebrating the life of Walter George Rylatt

03.01.2022 Today we remember so many prayers said by Christians all around the world and look into and apply the pattern in the Lord's Prayer.
