07.04.2022 The Sunday of Orthodoxy is the first Sunday of Great Lent. The dominant theme of this Sunday since 843 has been that of the victory of the icons. In that year the iconoclastic controversy, which had raged on and off since 726, was finally laid to rest, and icons and their veneration were restored on the first Sunday in Lent. Ever since, this Sunday has been commemorated as the "Triumph of Orthodoxy."

18.01.2022 Today we celebrate the conception of Saint John the Baptist. On this day are celebrated God's mercy, His wondrous act and His wisdom: His mercy towards the devout and righteous parents of St John, the aged Zacharias and Elisabeth, who had all their lives begged a child of God; the wonder of the conception of John in Elisabeth's more-than-aged womb; and the wisdom of the dispensation of man's salvation. For John, God had a specially great plan: that he should be a prophet and the forerunner of Christ the Lord, the Saviour of the world. Through His angels, God revealed the birth of Isaac to the childless Sarah, and of Samson to the childless Manoah and his wife, and of John the Baptist to the childless Zacharias and Elisabeth.

15.01.2022 The glorious Prophet and Forerunner John the Baptist is also referred to as John the Forerunner because he was the forerunner of Christ. He was an ascetic and great prophet, who baptized Christ and became one of the most revered saints in the Orthodox Church. John is a cousin of Christ through his mother Elizabeth, who was the daughter of Zoia. Zoia is the sister of Christ's grandmother. He was later beheaded by Herod in the first century to satisfy the request of Herod's stepdaughter, Salome, and wife Herodias. Because he baptized Christ, he is the patron saint of godparents. He is sometimes called the Angel of the Desert; because of this title, he is sometimes depicted with wings.

13.01.2022 (-) St John’s College hosted an information session/presentation for the Parish Priests of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese - Northcote District. M...rs Urban shared highlights of the SJC Renewal during 2020 and the Strategic Plan goals for 2020-2025, emphasising His Eminence Archbishop Makarios’ support for the new vision, mission and values of the College. Our special guests were taken on a tour of the grounds, particularly the new sports courts which, through their donations and the donations of their parishes and communities have allowed us to complete the upgrade earlier this year. It was a real honour to have all our local priests attend this special event. Thank you for your ongoing support! . . , , . . .

03.01.2022 The Feast of the Universal Exaltation of the Precious and Life-Giving Cross is one of the twelve Great Feasts of the Church, and is celebrated on September 14. It commemorates the finding of the True Cross of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by Saint Helen, and also celebrates how an instrument of a shameful death ultimately became an instrument of salvation and eternal life.
