23.01.2022 COVID UPDATE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR CATHOLIC EDUCATION DIOCESE OF PARRAMATTA GREG WHITBY

23.01.2022 Routines for Drop Off and Pick Up As of Monday 25th May, there will be two drop off and pick up points: 1) the top gate at the parish carpark and the new gate entrance in front of the administration block on McCulloch Street. The current Kiss and Drop procedure in the parish carpark will be maintained. Parents enter the school through McCulloch Street and exit the site via Garfield Road. 2) the new gate entrance in front of the administration block on McCulloch Street. Pare...nts / Carers will be required to park their car in either McCulloch Street or Woods Street and escort their children across the pedestrian crossing to the front gate. To minimise congestion families whose surname commences with letters A K are required to use the parish carpark and the top gate as entry and exit points to the school site. Families whose surname commences with letters L Z are required to use the entry gate in front of the administration building as entry and exit points and therefore must use off street parking (McCulloch Street or Woods Street) and bring their children across the pedestrian crossing. Teachers will be at both entry and exit points to supervise student drop off and pick up. In keeping with health and diocesan advice parents and carers are not permitted to enter the school site. Parents and carers can farewell their children at the gate. For the safety of our community parents are required to maintain safe health practices as defined by the NSW Government. Therefore, physical distancing at both exit and entry points must be maintained. Adults must not gather in and around school grounds, car parks and school gates. Students return in full winter uniform including school tie for both girls and boys.

16.01.2022 Tuesday 28th April 2020 Dear Parents and Carers, As you would be aware COVID 19 has had a significant impact on schools. St Johns continues to work towards a safe return to school for all our students.... Please be advised of the following arrangements for the gradual return of students to school. St Johns transition plan has been developed in line with the latest recommendations from the CEDPS Framework Transition to School, Term 2, Phase 1. Weeks 1 2 students are learning from home Schools are open for families who need supervision (essential workers) Schools continue to support student learning remotely At Risk (vulnerable) staff and students have been advised to work from home. From the beginning of week 3 (Monday 11 May), with the introduction of Phase 2 - there will be a gradual and staggered return to school for students. In order for families / siblings to attend school on the same day students need to be in attendance on the nominated days according to their house group. Please refer to the plan below which informs you of the day your child/ren can attend school. Week 3 Week 4 Mon- Larks Mon - Larks Tues - Doves Tues - Doves Wed- Eagles Wed - Eagles Thurs -Larks Thurs - Larks Fri - teacher planning/RFF Fri teacher planning/RFF Week 5 Mon - Eagles Tues - Larks Wed - Doves Thurs - Eagles Fri - teacher planning/RFF Until further notice staff and all adults will continue to follow social distancing and health recommendations. Therefore, parents and carers are asked to either use the Kiss and Drop Zone or accompany their child to the gate when dropping their children off in the morning. Parents and carers will not enter the school site and are asked not to congregate around the drop off zones for the safety of all students and staff. Furthermore, for safety and health reasons teachers on supervision will not open car doors. For afternoon dismissal parents are asked to park in the parish carpark and remain with their cars. A teacher on duty will call out the family name. When called parents are asked to pick up the children from the gate. It is important for the safety of the students, teachers and staff that parents leave the site immediately. In addition, please be advised that children must be picked up promptly; school finishes at 2.50 pm. Parents will continue to be informed at a school and system level as to when the determination has been made that students should return to face-to-face learning in a full-time capacity. I would like to assure our school community that our teachers continue to work hard in providing learning for all our students. If you have any concerns or need further clarification please email your childs teacher or contact the office. Kind Regards, Patricia Charlton Principal

15.01.2022 1 May 2020 Dear Parents and Carers As we reach the end of the first week of the new term, I am writing to remind you that we are here to help. I have so much respect and admiration for the way families have supported student learning and wellbeing in these challenging times.... It seems hardly any time since the first of the social restrictions were put in place that meant schools needed to reimagine how they could deliver learning to their students. Social distancing, learning and teaching offsite, new ways to communicate and other major changes to work and life have had an impact on us all. Schools are keeping their communities updated about student learning and the gradual return to the classroom. I appreciate that things are changing all the time, which means we need to adjust and rethink what we are doing so that we are meeting the needs of our students. Our young people have had to manage big changes to their lives in the past months. Theyre missing their mates, their teachers and their routines, so its important to mention here that if youre concerned about your childs wellbeing, your school has the expertise to support you, including through professional counselling. Particular thanks to the many families who have reached out for assistance due to the financial strain they are experiencing as a result of COVID-19. I understand that its not always easy to speak up about pressures like these. You can find information about what fee support is available here. You can also talk to your school if your family doesnt have the technology or internet access you need at home so ensure learning can continue. Many schools have computers that they can loan to families, and there are also some options to support families with connectivity. Together, we have responded with care, imagination and great heart to the significant challenges placed before us by COVID-19. Even in this rapidly changing environment, the health and safety of our students and staff will remain our number one priority. Thanks for working with me in these extraordinary times, and always. Yours sincerely Greg Whitby AM KSG Executive Director Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta

09.01.2022 National Simultaneous Story time Today at 11 A.M., the students and teachers at St Johns participated in National Simultaneous Story time. National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around... the country. Now in its 20th successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian childrens book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6. The aim of this event is to: promote the value of reading and literacy, promote the value and fun of books, promote an Australian writer and publisher. The book that was shared today was Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas by Lucinda Gifford. "Whitney and Britney are two gorgeous chooks who live alongside Dora von Dooze. But Dora is perplexed - why do her dear chickens seem to sleep all day long? Dora decides to snoop. She follows the chooks out at night to the local jazz club where she discovers, to her amazement, that they are Whitney and Britney: Chicken Divas!" We had a surprise visit from the three main characters, Miss Jeffrey, Mrs Stafford and Mrs Hocothee who were looking more glamorous than usual. Great job ladies!
