24.01.2022 Today Sunday, last 3 performances.

24.01.2022 Adventure Camp - Sunday What a beautiful site to be invested into the Scout Unit: cliffs, forest and a water hole. It’s then time for a quick lunch and to return home.

24.01.2022 8 March 2020 at the Water Police. As the Water Police opened us kindly their doors, we didn’t suspect the Covid virus to lock us down a week later. We felt uncomfortable to publish these photos from another time and as the restrictions lightened, we became busy with many new experiences. Over this year our Scout Section grew from 3 to 6 Patrols. Several Scouts went to Venturers, some Cubs came up to Scouts and a number of new Youth joined the Movement without prior Scouting experience. Overall, the number in SJW Group increased by 38% in 2020.

23.01.2022 Alan is our Group Leader, our Scout Leader, and he works on den renovations most Thursdays with Ken. Since a few months they’re modifying the Venturers den to create a separate access to the toilets.

23.01.2022 The local Santa Sleigh is running again this year and tonight was our first night of running by Santa’s side while receiving generous donations for the local Ro...tary group. We love this event every year as it gives us an opportunity to get out into the community and lend a hand! If you’re in the area over the next week make sure to look up Santa’s route and come support rotary while enjoying Christmas carols and lollies See more

23.01.2022 Summer Camp - Part 1 of 3 The beginning of the summer holidays gives our Scouts and older Cubs the opportunity to camp 5 nights in a row. The weather looks challenging as we packed the trailers under heavy rain Rocky Creek is central to numerous activities. From Mt Ngungun we see the pineapple fields and the macadamia nut plantations. Several games keep us busy in the afternoon with some great canoeing in our the private Scouts Queensland dam.

21.01.2022 Please donate your containers to scout group! Every 10c container sure adds up!

21.01.2022 Our older Cubs and Scouts are experiencing a week-long instructional, relaxing and fun camp, creating team work and long lasting friendship. This is a smooth transition from one Section to the next. Watch their enthusiasm during free time with our canoes.

21.01.2022 Summer Camp - part 3 of 3 The weather has delayed the low ropes exercise to the last morning. The mud on the ground and slightly slippery conditions don’t stop the Cubs and Scouts from having fun in groups of 3. Rocky Creek used to serve as a passage of the river and a tool factory... We finish with an investiture. It’s been a year with a lovely increase in Youth joining our SJW Scouts Group.

19.01.2022 No school holidays for our Rovers.

18.01.2022 Adventure Camp - Sunday The night seems to have gone well although there were a few drops of rain at around midnight. It is time to pack and leave no trace of our passage. We meet at 9am for Scouts Own at the chapel for a moment of reflection.

18.01.2022 Adventure Camp - Saturday The satellite trackers give the Scouts great independence. After instructions, each Patrol hikes to a location of their choice, collect their food, construct a shelter, cook dinner on a fire and protect their flag.

17.01.2022 Wide game at Sunset Park, under the stars and a bright Moon.

13.01.2022 A morning of first aid training with the help of John Parr. Many scouts and rovers profited for a very interesting course learning about CPR, sprains and fractures, bites and stings, shock and lots more!

12.01.2022 One of our Patrols on Chris’ Adventurer Level Hike. After a cold first night the weather is gorgeous and warm. A satellite tracker allows the Leaders to follow their progression. This 3-day journey, in a group of 5 or 6, is one element of the Scout Medallion, the highest achievement in the Scout Section. Two Scouts are living up to the challenge, in separate patrols, during these school holidays.

11.01.2022 Last night we went to visit the Water Police with our district Rovers and Venturers. It was a very interesting night leaning about their equipment, responsibili...ties and capabilities. They are heavily involved in search and rescue operations and discussed the work they’ve done in order to bring people home. Thanks Jamie for organising a great night and The Gap and Oakleigh Rovers and Venturers for joining us!

11.01.2022 The rovers have made a video showing their recent road trip all the way to Cape Tribulation. What an exciting adventure!

11.01.2022 Heading to Brisbane Gang Show this weekend? Don’t forget that due to COVID Restrictions we’re not at the Schonell Cinema and Live Theatre. 10.01.2022 The last knighting ceremony ever for St Johns Wood ?

09.01.2022 Part 2 of 3 On this 37+ degrees and humid day, the first rapids capture all our attention. We familiarise ourselves with the current sliding between the slippery rocks. The water is very warm. We play various games including forming a human chain to attempt rescues, floating safely through the rapids, chaining up and crossing the river while helping each other. ... Then the Scouts negotiate the rapids with their canoes going both upstream and downstream, cooling off by retrieving capsized canoes. During our journey the Scouts at camp have prepared a luxury meal: the entree is a Tofu Thai Salad to cater for all dietary preferences followed by tender beef brisket and gourmet beef roast and vegetables cooked in camp ovens for many hours. Dessert is damper coated with maple syrup. After a big day of non-stop exercise the camp was asleep early.

08.01.2022 Part 1 of 3 Today we’re off to our long expected Canoe Camp. After shopping on the way and a short night, most of the 22 Scouts and 5 Leaders participating are paddling up Brisbane River to the Lowood Bend’s rapids on Saturday morning.

08.01.2022 2020 was a great year with a 40% uptake. After several months of meeting weekly in uniform on Zoom, we enjoyed the outdoors again while sleeping in individual tents. Join our Scout Section, with Youth aged 10 to 14, on various random activities. You’ll discover many pictures in the photo albums on our FB Page.... https://www.facebook.com/StJohnsWoodScouts https://www.StJohnsWoodScouts.org.au

07.01.2022 As 2020 wraps up, membership has grown 34% and we thank our supportive local parliamentarians in this difficult, limited fundraising year. SJW Scouts received facility improvement grants from Brisbane City Council (Cr Steven Toomey), Queensland Government ( Jonty Bush - Member for Cooper) and Commonwealth Government (Julian Simmonds). In this snippet (from 17:32:32), Julian Simmonds MP speaks about the strength of Scouts and Guides in his electorate and St Johns Wood Scouts.... For 30 minutes a number of parliamentarians from NSW, VIC, SA, WA, TAS and QLD talk about their experience and the quality of Scouting. https://parlview.aph.gov.au/mediaPlayer.php

07.01.2022 Summer Camp - part 2 of 3 To prepare dinner, the winning Patrol of each game can choose first consecutive ingredients: rice or pasta, tomatoes or carrots etc The weather is difficult and we get very wet. The Scouts remain very positive and we simply move to the shed to assess the Scouts on their new Milestone level of badge work. We communicate with the parents by Messenger Chat and it is a treat for the Cub Scouts to say hello to their parents. Hi Mum !

07.01.2022 Showcasing our Scouting Pride with this new Ready Set SCOUT! Facebook Frame!

04.01.2022 Part 3 of 3 The most rewarding part of our journey is today: we’ll cross the incredibly beautiful vegetation between the Twin Bridges, downstream towards Savages Crossing. First we pack up the camp as after the journey we’ll drive straight to the den. We clear the site, burying nicely the ashes of yesterday’s fire.... Local Scout Leader Ross, who paddles these waters on a regular basis, is our instructor and our guide We are conquering more rapids, weaving through narrow sections of the Brisbane River, and brushing against overhanging trees along the riverbank. It is a very hot day, and swimming to cool off is well received. We spot many wildlife inhabitants along the river, including sea eagles, one of which has a prey in its talon, spoonbills, egrets, black cormorants, moorhens, and even a snake swimming across the river.

03.01.2022 Cub Scouts reinforcing friendships and planning their adventures during their weekend camp.

03.01.2022 Thanks everyone for a resilient year, and eloquently expressed by the Chief Ambassador Bear Grylls in this video.

03.01.2022 2020 was filled with challenges. After many meetings by Zoom, during gathering restrictions, we found our freedom again and used every opportunity to join Nature and Adventure. In 2020 the SJW Scouts Group enjoyed a 38% increase of Membership.... Scouting is for Girls and Boys aged 5-25! For membership enquiries please visit http://www.stjohnswoodscouts.org.au/join Here we are on quiet Brisbane River near Lowood.

02.01.2022 Patrol Activity night gives the patrol to finally do what they wished for so long. No Leaders are attending. The PL organises the event, the forms and the communication with their patrol members and parents.

02.01.2022 Our Scouts and Venturers just spent two hours of serious exercise at YMCA Ninja Warrior & Gym, 25 Harvton St, Stafford. Now it’s free time and they still have energy to spend.

01.01.2022 Anna led a patrol of Cubs on a ramble through the city today, we visited the Botanical Gardens and Southbank before heading home. Sorry for the bad photo Bagherra, but all Cub leaders need bad photos on social media. - Rikki
