25.01.2022 Happy 10th birthday Foyer Port Adelaide! Since the Foyer first opened in 2011, hundreds of young South Australians have lived, learned and launched their futures from this wonderful old building in the heart of Port Adelaide. #PortAdelaide #OurPort #Foyer

25.01.2022 Doubling #JobSeeker during the pandemic saved 155,000 Australians from the brink of homelessness. Imagine what would have happened if these people had remained ...on the old rate of $40 a day. Today, our Federal Parliament returns for the first sitting of 2021. A permanent and adequate raise to JobSeeker and other income support payments should be at the top of their agenda. Contact your MPs and advocate for a permanent increase to the base rate of JobSeeker of at least $25 a day more, so that people can cover the basics. Unsure about how to get in touch? ACOSS has a guide available on how to call your MP, including tips and an example script https://raisetherate.org.au/your-mp-needs-to-hear-from-you/ #RaiseTheRateForGood

24.01.2022 In Australia a 10 year old child can be arrested, charged and imprisoned. Prisons traumatise children and increase their chances of getting into more trouble, not less. Medical experts maintain that children under 14 years do not possess the neurological maturity to form criminal intent. By having our age of legal responsibility set at 10 we are in breach of human rights standards and trailing behind the rest of the world where the average age globally is 14. The ACT’s Legislative Assembly recently voted to raise the age of legal responsibility from 10 to 14 years. Now it’s time for the remaining states and territories to do the same and #RaiseTheAge. Because children belong in playgrounds, not prisons.

08.01.2022 As always, this morning's Annual Apology Breakfast commemorating the anniversary of Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's formal apology to Australia's Stolen Generations in 2008, was a profound and deeply moving experience for the SJYS team. We're enormously privileged to work alongside our Aboriginal Cultural Broker, Alex Houthuysen-Hill, who has so generously shared his own experience as member of the Stolen Generations both within and beyond SJYS. "For the pain, suffering and hurt of these Stolen Generations, their descendants and for their families left behind, we say sorry." - Kevin Rudd, 13 February 2008. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe
