24.01.2022 Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.... Kidding... it twas the St John volunteers Annual Christmas / Thank you dinner AND there was plenty of stirring, laughing, joking from all as we enjoyed a fabulous evening with a delicious dinner at Walkers Hill Vineyard. Thank you so much Tania & Jared the evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Thank you to Lois Dickins, our Chair Person for all your organising agai...n and all the time that you put into this evening. It was so very much appreciated by all who attended. This Annual dinner is an acknowledgement and thank you to "every" St John Ambulance volunteer, their partners who are also interrupted with call outs and all those associated with this group. As a community we totally rely on our volunteers, who answer their phone any time of the day or night and don their uniforms to help out a patient in need.... Your neighbour, your friend, your loved one. Our volunteers don't think twice about doing a midnight RFDS transfer or a trip to Narrogin Hospital and back etc, they train weekly to keep their skills up so they are ready when needed. Soooo on that note, to all our St John Ambulance volunteers "THANK YOU" #LeaveYourHatOnThemeParty #volunteers #VolunteersThankyou #SJAWheatbelt #StJohn #StJohnWA #SJA #StJohnLakeGrace #Thankyouforyourtimeanddedication #WalkersHillVineyard

18.01.2022 In a state as big as Western Australia, driving holidays can often mean a long time behind the wheel. So if you’re gearing up for a WA road-trip, make sure you stay safe with these simple tips: 1. Do not use your mobile phone whilst driving. 2. Keep a safe distance - follow the two-second rule. 3. Slow down to avoid skidding on unsealed roads.... 4. Keep your headlights on. 5. Turn off your high-beams around other cars. 6. Observe the speed limit and road rules. 7. Overtake safely - if in doubt, don’t proceed. 8. Avoid driving at dawn and dusk. 9. If you do spot a roo or animal, slow down. 10. Cap driving time per day to avoid driver fatigue and take a break every two hours. #Drivetostayalive #SJAWA #staysafe #slowdown #lakegrace #stjohn

15.01.2022 The Royal Flying Doctor Service has been serving Australian communities for over 90 years. From humble beginnings in 1928, the RFDS now has a fleet of 71 aircraft operating from 23 bases around the country. Helping 290,000 patients every year, that's one every two minutes! Where would we be without the RFDS in Regional WA. #RFDSWA #FlyingDoctor #RFDS ... #volunteers #SJAWA #SJA #StJohn #LakeGrace See more
14.01.2022 Please know that you should always call for an ambulance in a medical emergency, but sometimes there is often a bit of confusion around what constitutes a medical emergency. Please call Triple Zero (000) and request an ambulance in the following situations. Note: If you are unsure about whether a person requires an ambulance, it is better to call Triple Zero (000) and the Communication Officers will advise you. chest pain or chest tightness... sudden onset of weakness, numbness or paralysis of the face, arm or leg breathing difficulties unconsciousness uncontrollable bleeding a sudden collapse or unexplained fall unexplained fitting in adults injury from a major car accident a fall from a great height serious assault, including stabbing or shooting severe burns, particularly in young children infants who are fitting or have an ongoing fever. In a medical emergency, it is important that you do not drive yourself or another person to hospital as you may endanger your life, the patient's life or members of the public. Not only are you unable to concentrate on driving but moving some patients can make the situation worse. In a medical emergency, Communication Officers can provide medical advice and paramedics can commence essential life-saving treatment at the scene, as well as en route to hospital, rather than beginning treatment at the hospital. We'd appreciate it if this message was shared, thank you. #volunteers #Dial000inanEmergency #StJohnLakeGrace #StJohnWA #SJAWA

12.01.2022 With the purchase of a new 'Blue' Wheelchair recently and a new stair descender, the Lake Grace St John Ambulance volunteers had training to do and where better then the Lake Grace Hotel! (Because of their staircase of course!) The Stair Descender fits onto the wheel chair and makes going down stairs a lot easier on the volunteer and a lot safer for the patient as well. 08.01.2022 How do you like your eggs in Summer? It's going to get so hot you could probably fry them on the foot path! Probably not, BUT our skin is pretty susceptible to heat related conditions with the increase in temperature. Whether it's being mindful of sunscreen application or reducing the risk of heat stroke, there are things we can do to help ourselves. Keeping an eye on your water intake is always sensible for a start. If we may offer one more piece of advice... please use ...aloe vera, cold running water or a cool towel to help cool your skin down if you're suffering from a sunburn. If you don't know how to treat a patient suffering from severe sunburns, be sure to download the St John First Responder App, so you can download our free first aid tips. You can find this in the first aid toolbox. Stay cool everyone. #sunsmart #StayCool #slipslopslap #SJAWheatbelt #SJALakeGrace #StJohn
