24.01.2022 Remember us visiting your school when you were younger? We've actually been delivering free first aid training to students for over 10 years, which is pretty unreal. The students at St Peter's Primary School had a great time learning about first aid last week and they did an incredible job! Thank you so much for having us and if you ever need us in a medical emergency, we're only three zeroes away! Term 1 bookings for 2021 are now being accepted so if you want to learn more about our free first aid schools program, click here: stjohnwa.com.au/youthengagement/first-aid-focus-program

22.01.2022 Double demerits are in effect as of tomorrow the 18th of December, until the 3rd of January 2021. We want to see all of you get home safely this holiday season, so please do not drive if you are tired, drowsy and/or under the influence. We all know not to use our phones when driving either, so please just leave it in your bag or centre console until you reach your destination. Thank you everyone for doing your part in keeping WA roads safe this Christmas.

19.01.2022 Oof, that's one big snake and there are plenty more out there in the community slithering around. Ensure you know what to do if you or a loved one is bitten by a snake, view our snake bite first aid tutorial here: https://bit.ly/3ntnY5O
19.01.2022 How do you like your eggs in Summer? It's going to get so hot you could probably fry them on the foot path! Probably not, but our skin is pretty susceptible to heat-related conditions with the increase in temperature. Whether it's being mindful of sunscreen application or reducing the risk of heat stroke, there are things we can do to help ourselves. Keeping an eye on your water intake is always sensible for a start. If we may offer one more piece of advice... stop putting m...oisturising lotion on your sunburns! We see this too often, so please use aloe vera, cold running water or a cool towel to help cool your skin down if you're suffering from a sunburn. If you don't know how to treat a patient suffering from severe sunburns, be sure to download the St John First Responder App, so you can download our free first aid tips. You can find this in the first aid toolbox. You could even take it one step further and book yourself in for some first aid training - never a bad idea to learn how to save a life. You can learn more about the training we offer at stjohnwa.com.au/first-aid-training Stay cool, everyone .

19.01.2022 International Men's Day is not only a day of recognition, it's a day for raising awareness surrounding men's health and why we all need to talk about it more often. Mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer are all important issues to tackle and the more we talk about it, the more lives can be potentially saved. Encouraging your mates to check themselves as well as asking if you're mate is doing okay, are great ways of helping initiate change. ...Every year at St John WA we have amazing men and women support Movember and raise thousands of dollars for men's health. Last year we raised $25,000 for Movember and had 69 people fundraising for the cause - which was a massive record for us. This year ambassadors like Ash (spotted next to our mo-bulance) are continuing the amazing work and raising awareness for the day. Others around the organisation are also doing their part and helping raise awareness amongst their friends and colleagues (great photo Mandurah depot!) 16.01.2022 What an incredibly moving story with such an important message: first aid should be a part of everyone’s lives, including kids. 90% of school students don’t learn these vital, life skills in school; but we have the power to change this! You can help us make a difference by visiting: https://giving.stjohnwa.com.au ... Thank you 10 News First Perth for the great story!
15.01.2022 Down south or out and about for Leavers? We hope you guys have a great time after the crazy year we have had, but let's not forget to be mindful of each other's safety and wellbeing. We don't want to sound like a broken record or like your parents, but here's some advice straight from our ambos: Drink responsibly - Space your drinks throughout the day and drink water between each alcoholic drink. You only get to go on Leavers once! Knowing first aid - There are a bunch o...f free first aid resources available on our First Responder app if you need it. From snake bites to bleeds, you have a first aid guide right in your pocket. You can download it from the app store for free so be sure to check it out. Stay hydrated - it's going to be a warm week so be sure to keep your fluids up (and we mean water!) Be sun smart - pretty straight forward, slip, slop, slap and slide. Illicit drug use - Most people enjoy Leavers without taking drugs, however if people do choose to take drugs it is important to minimise the harm. Make sure you have a friend with you who is not under the influence to keep you safe; and have a support plan if you run into trouble. In any case, if you do start to feel unwell make sure you tell the first aid personnel as they are there to help, not to judge people for their actions. The information you give them is confidential, so it is critical that if you are having any medical issues, seek medical aid immediately (and fully disclose what you have taken, if anything). Being upfront and honest may save your life, so let's stay safe and smart this weekend. Most importantly, have fun!
14.01.2022 Please be mindful of mosquito bites this Summer . If you have been bitten by a mosquito and experience any of these symptoms, please visit your GP so you may be tested for the Ross River Virus: - painful or swollen joints - sore muscles - skin rash ... - fever - fatigue - headaches For tips on how to reduce your risk, visit HealthyWA's website here: https://bit.ly/2Udem2H
13.01.2022 Having a solid bushfire plan is not something we think about during the Christmas period. Coming into Bush Fire Season though, we all need to be prepared. Create your DFES bushfire plan here www.mybushfireplan.wa.gov.au
11.01.2022 We have some pretty awesome people volunteering with St John, and that's why we believe it is so important for those who go above and beyond to be acknowledged. Thomas Rossen was recently recognised as Young Volunteer of the Year at our Annual Sundowner Awards! This is what his nominator has to say about him: "Thom has exceeded all expectations in his Emergency Medical Technician role. In addition to his confidence and capability in patient management, Tom has demonstrated i...nnovation and leadership by developing, implementing or adapting initiatives covering an array of operational processes including communication, stock control, training and rostering. Tom’s dedicated efforts, positive forward thinking and drive for continuous improvement have seen an increase in new volunteers joining his sub centre through word of mouth." Well done Tom and thank you for being an inspiration to those both inside and outside of St John.

11.01.2022 That's a wrap, folks! Our 'Design Your Own Glam-bulance' competition has come to an end... Thank you to the designers who created some fantastic work for this competition and to the WA community for helping select a design! We will formally announce the winner soon, thanks WA!
11.01.2022 Last but certainly not least, is St John WA - Goldfields! Congratulations to all of the award recipients for this region and thank you to everyone who is watching the event. That's a wrap! We know we've done things a little differently this year becasue of COVID, but we're so grateful to see so many of you show your support for our people. Thank you and good night, Perth!
06.01.2022 If you're thinking of spending some time down at the beach this Summer, it's good to take a mental note of your nearest BEN sign. In the event of an emergency, BEN signs will inform you of your exact location, which is especially helpful along some of our more remote beaches. Every second counts during an emergency, so by quoting the nearest BEN sign code when calling Triple Zero (000), our operators can accurately pinpoint your exact location.
05.01.2022 Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA asked and we delivered. We think it's fair to say, we like variety at St John #2020wrapped
05.01.2022 Congratulations to the Perth No. 1 Division of our Event Health Services department, for winning the EHS Olympics! The EHS Olympics is a nail-biting competition between volunteers from across the metro area, where they can show off their first aid skills and fight for the prestigious 'Golden Boot'! Some of the activities this year included: the PITT 3 legged race, extreme first aid post setup, search and rescue items from the ambulance, SAM splint and saline race (EHS ren...dition of an egg and spoon race), and radio Pictionary. We look forward to seeing how the teams stack up against each other next year!
03.01.2022 We are pleased to announce that the winner of our 'Design your own Glam-bulance' competition, is none other than Nathan Richards! Nathan is a very talented local cartoonist, illustrator and designer. We agree with the WA community that his design will do an excellent job representing love and equality on one of our ambulances. We would like to formally thank everyone who participated in the competition this year. We are so grateful that so many people came forward and creat...ed some stunning designs in support of Pride. Keen to see the finished product? We are too! Thanks to our friends at Jason Signmakers - who have done an amazing job with our past Pride-themed ambulances; we'll unveil the wrapped vehicle in the near future. Ensure you're following us to get updates on our progress!
03.01.2022 Today is a day of remembrance and reflection. As we bow our heads in silence at 11am, we will pay tribute to the men and women who fell in service of their country. In the four years of the First World War, more than 330,000 Australians had served and more than 60,000 of them died. They were fathers, brothers, sons, mothers and daughters; all working together to help protect our nation. We will remember them. Lest we forget.
