23.01.2022 Suspension of all public Masses and communal devotions from 12noon It is with heavy heart that I announce that following the new commonwealth and state restrictions on public places, all public Masses and other communal devotions, whether inside churches or outdoors, are suspended in the Archdiocese from Sydney from 12noon until further notice. From now on our focus must be on helping people find ways to pray and nurture their faith from home. Most Rev. 15.01.2022 O Jesus, Eternal Priest, keep your priests within the shelter of your Most Sacred Heart, where none can touch them. Keep unstained their anointed hands, which daily touch Sacred Body. Keep pure their hearts, sealed with the sublime mark of the priesthood. Let your Love surround and protect them from the worldly temptations. Bless their labour with abundant fruit, and may the souls to whom they minister be their joy and consolation here and their everlasting crown in hereafter. Amen.

14.01.2022 Month of November: On 1st Nov we celebrate Solemnity of All Saints, blessed or heroes of our faith. A society without them is an ordinary group of people, with no one to look up to or no one to be proud of. We all need models for all times. On the 2nd Nov the Commemoration of All the faithful Departed. All Souls Day was first instituted at the monastery in Cluny in 993CE and quickly spread throughout the Christian world. People held festivals for the dead long before Christi...anity. It was Saint Odilo, the abbot of Cluny in France, who in the 10th century, proposed that the day after All Saints Day be set aside to honour the departed, particularly those whose souls were still in Purgatory. Christian celebration of All Saints Day and All Souls Day stems from a belief that there is a powerful spiritual bond between those in heaven (Church triumphant), and the living (Church militant). Solemnity All Saints 1st Nov. Mass times: 9:00am and 6pm. All Souls Day 2nd Nov. Mass times: 6:45am, 11:30am and 6pm. On this day a plenary indulgence may be gained for the dead, once only, by visiting a church, praying Our Father and the Creed. Conditions: Confession, Eucharistic Communion and prayer for the Popes intentions. See more

10.01.2022 May the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ bless you today and throughout New Year 2020. It was December 25, 1914, only 5 months into World War I. German, British, and French soldiers, already sick and tired of the senseless killing, disobeyed their superiors and fraternized... with "the enemy" along two-thirds of the Western Front (a crime punishable by death in times of war). German troops held Christmas trees up out of the trenches with signs, "Merry Christmas." "You no shoot, we no shoot." Thousands of troops streamed across a no-mans land strewn with rotting corpses. They sang Christmas carols, exchanged photographs of loved ones back home, shared rations, played football, even roasted some pigs. Soldiers embraced men they had been trying to kill a few short hours before. They agreed to warn each other if the top brass forced them to fire their weapons, and to aim high. A shudder ran through the high command on either side. Here was disaster in the making: soldiers declaring their brotherhood with each other and refusing to fight. Generals on both sides declared this spontaneous peacemaking to be treasonous and subject to court martial. By March 1915 the fraternization movement had been eradicated and the killing machine put back in full operation. By the time of the armistice in 1918, fifteen million would be slaughtered. 07.01.2022 And why is the devil envious? asked the Pope: he is envious of our human nature. Do you know why? Because the Son of God became one of us. The devil cannot bear that. That is why he destroys, said Pope Francis, and that is the root of the devils envy, the root of our evils, our temptations, it is the root of wars, hunger, of all the calamities in the world. It is not usual to destroy and sow... hatred, the Pope continued, not even in politics. But some people do it. Often one politician is tempted to sling mud at another, to destroy the other, using both lies and truth. This is not a healthy and clean political rivalry for the good of the country. Those kinds of politicians use insults to diminish their opponent, afraid they may appear more competent. (12th Nov. Pope Francis) See more

06.01.2022 The following recommendations are believed to be proportionate to the current understanding of the coronavirus and the risks outlined by health authorities. They are consistent with the Catholic Churchs prerogative to protect those who are most vulnerable. Individuals should consider their own health, including any potential to infect others with a contagious disease, before attending a public liturgical celebration.... Holy Water should be temporarily removed from stoups at the doors of churches to reduce the possibility of transmission of the virus. Holy Water should continue to be available for people to take home. Parishes and other settings where liturgies are celebrated should make alcohol-based gels or rubs (or like products) available near entrances. Similar provisions should be considered for settings used for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. When exchanging the Sign of Peace, individuals should avoid shaking hands but say Peace be with you and offer a smile, wave, nod or bow. All Ministers of Holy Communion should take particular care to wash their hands before and after distributing. Appropriate means should be made available. Parishes should cease distributing Holy Communion from the Chalice until further notice. The faithful should be reminded that Christ is fully present under either species. The coronavirus is easily spread through saliva. In celebrations of the Ordinary Form of the Latin Rite, it is therefore recommended that the Body of Christ only be administered in the hand because of the high risk of transmission if people continue to receive on the tongue. Ministers should seek to avoid contact with the communicants hands. The faithful who are too unwell to attend Sunday Mass whether due to coronavirus or some other conditions or are at particular risk of contracting the COVID-19 virus can honour their Sunday obligation by participating in a time of prayer within the home, reading the Scriptures or watching Mass on television or online (http://bit.ly/MassOnDemand) See more
