25.01.2022 At St Joseph's we've been celebrating NAIDOC Week! Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures are regarded as the oldest surviving cultures in the world. NAIDOC Week provides an opportunity for all Australian people, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous, to celebrate and honour this culture. This week our students were involved in activities focussed on the indigenous people and their culture. Artwork was created, stories were shared and we came together for a special asse...mbly and prayer. Our Preschoolers celebrated NAIDOC Week with a visit from some native Australian animals. These animals are respected and often featured in Dreaming stories of our Aboriginal people. Thanks to Animals Anonymous for visiting and teaching us about these endangered animals. Prayer of the Aboriginal People Let us join with Aboriginal people in praying their prayer Father of all, you gave us the Dreaming You have spoken to us through our beliefs You then made your love clear to us in the person of Jesus We thank you for your care You own us You are our hope Make us strong as we face the problems of change We ask you to help the people of Australia to listen to us and respect our culture Meet the knowledge of you grow strong in all people So that you can be at home in us and we can make a home for everyone in our land. Amen Always was. Always will be. This prayer was composed for the meeting between Pope John Paul II and the Aboriginal People #NAIDOCWeek2020 #alwayswasalwayswillbe #catholiceducationsouthaustralia #stjosephmichigan
