23.01.2022 This year St Joseph's engaged local artist, Jason Ridgeway from Blackboycreations to paint a mural celebrating Indigenous culture and the connections to the local community. We love it! How blessed we are to be surrounded by such talented local people. "This artwork depicts our mountain Burrell Bulai (Sugarloaf Mountain). It’s a story of protection. Also our mountain ranger such as Kemp’s Pinnacle and Mount Banda Banda. It depicts an elder looking over our beautiful valley along with our blanket totem the praying mantis. It feature dancing and hunting. The river meeting the sea. Meeting places. The sky with the cross. The beautiful bright colour represent the rainbow serpent that created our rivers and creeks". #drivingexcellenceinthemacleay #NAIDOCWeek2020

21.01.2022 Socktober 2020! What an amazing community day shared by students and teachers yesterday to raise awareness and life saving funds to support Catholic Mission this October World Mission Month! A big thank you to our whole St Joseph’s family who so generously supported this great cause and had a wonderful day doing so. Together we raised $545! Students wore their craziest socks, enjoyed icebreakers at lunch, grabbed a bargain at our second hand book stall, and cheered our yea...r 6 students on as they took on the teachers in a game of touch footy! A special mention to Miss Barrow, Miss Cain and Mrs Hagger who made the day such a success. Teaching our students the importance of showing care and compassion to all, especially those less fortunate than us, and applying their understanding through faith in action initiatives is a great way to create a more harmonious future. #togetherwecanmakeadifference #drivingexcellenceinthemacleay #MinniVinniesTeam #MinistryLeadership #faithinaction #CatholicMission #WorldMissionMonth See more

16.01.2022 ~ Questioning students about their learning is now an important part of our school culture at St Joseph's ~ Allowing students to verbalise how they are going with their learning, where they can access support, and what next steps they need to take, enhances their understanding and growth ~ Powerful questioning empowers children to own their learning and excel beyond what they initially thought was possible... ~ Never underestimate the power in asking children questions about their learning. It creates opportunities for informal discussions and demonstrates the importance of their education #drivingexcellenceinthemacleay #the5powerfulquestionsforlearning #empoweringourstudents #parentpartnership #positivetalkaboutlearning

13.01.2022 Yesterday at St Paul’s, the Federal Member for Cowper, Pat Conaghan MP, launched Alumni associations for ex-students of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School and St Paul’s Catholic Secondary College. Pat, who attended both schools, said it gave him great pleasure to officially launch the two associations. Pat said that St Joseph’s and St Paul’s alumni groups are much more than an association. It is a continuation of your Christian values, a continuation of community. Pat s...aid there were 208 boys in his year at the boarding school he attended from Year 9, but he only keeps in contact with two fellow students. We had less than 50 in my class in Year 8 in Kempsey and I keep in contact with most of them, said Pat. He said this is what community means in Kempsey and in smaller regions. Learn more and find out how to register for the St Joseph’s Alumni Association in the Families section on the St Joseph’s website at: https://www.kmpplism.catholic.edu.au See more

12.01.2022 ~ BE COURAGEOUS... Try to write in a way that scares you a little ~ Students at St Josephs are learning the powerful secrets to transforming their writing into engaging texts and achieving their optimum potential. How good are these story starters, fresh off the press this week from our Year 5 class? Macrae: ... As the ferocious mountain lion stalks its prey that is drinking out of the dirty waterhole. Pounce! The chase is on. The mountain lion wins. As the satisfied mountain lion chows down on its prey, standing 204cm-240cm tall, in all of its glorious power. Ashton: Hundreds of deer frolicking around the mucky dam with ambush hunters waiting for lunch. Eerie silence. Pounce! The chase is on. Run, as fast as you can. Brayson: As the white tail buck was frolicking around the water hole, the mountain lion slowly but silently was prowling through the brush. Everything went completely silent. The buck's ears pricked up, it was nowhere near the herd. The mountain lion crept up on the white tail buck. The buck's head pricked up. The mountain lion stopped. Any sudden movement and the deer would run. Pounce! #drivingexcellenceinthemacleay #takingstudentstotheiroptimumpotential
