25.01.2022 A GREAT WEEK OF THE ARTS AT JOEY'S A very BIG thank you to all the families who attended the focus this week on the Arts in the past few days. "Celebrating the Arts at Joey's" was focused on giving students the an opportunity to perform in front of an audience just as they would have if they had attended the annual Eisteddfod. ... The second focus was creating an opportunity within the COVID structures that allowed families to be part of the experience. Joey's stance to stay, "COVID won't stop us!!" It truly has been an amazing week with classes visibly enjoying the experience. The excitement was clearly visible and the manners of all students in listening and respecting each performance was also amazing. Very proud of our St. Joey's students as they take every opportunity to shine. Proud of what our teachers do each and every day as well. WELL DONE ONE AND ALL!!

25.01.2022 On the 10th Day of Christmas.... Thanks for supporting the twelve Days of Christmas Raffle run by the P&F of St. Joey's with some very generous support from the Townsville community.

24.01.2022 FLOATING OR SINKING I had the pleasure today of observing our Year 1 students testing their home made boats. These photos were from the first group in 1B. I also visited 1A later in the day. The question was - Will it Float like the Magnetic Island Ferry or sink like the Titanic? Thankfully most seem to float. (even if a little top heavy.) ... It was great to see the students exploring the scientific concept, being critical on the job they did and reflecting on how they could improve their homemade boats. Well done Year 1!!! (Thank you and happy birthday to to Pia in Year 1, who celebrated her Birthday and sent Mr Orford a cupcake today!!)

16.01.2022 A visit to Year 1A I had a wonderful visit with 1A this morning as they compared the concept of longer and shorter in Mathematics. The students had to look around the room and compare items to the 'special item' they had within their group. ... One group decided Mr Orford was longer than the dice they had on their desk, but the eraser was shorter. The students had great fun discussing and developing a list of items around their classroom. But the next task was to actually check out if their estimations were correct. The success rate was very good from my observations... They did a top job and I really enjoyed spending some time with our beautiful Year One students. Thanks for the visit. Mr orford Principal

11.01.2022 ROBOTICS / CODING COMPETITION Good Luck to the Joey's Robotics/Coding teams who will be competing in an inter-school competition on Monday afternoon. The competition will involve students coding their robots to complete a range of tasks. These could include avoiding obstacles, picking items up, using a variety of sensors that read colour etc.... I have included a little clip that explains what the EV3 robots are all about. We are lucky to have a set of 15 in the school for our students to use.

10.01.2022 REMEMBRANCE DAY 2020 I could not be prouder in our St. Joey's students today. To see every child in silence and engaged as we joined in prayer for Remembrance Day. To have students with family members who have or are serving, read the prayers and even the ode. ... To have our students stand in silence with no movement across the covered area from Prep to 6 as the flag was held at half mast. To have 5 of our students sing beautifully while the school joined in the actions. (even the teachers joined in) I can say I was truly proud of the reverence, respect, self control and how truly engaged our Joey's students were in our Remembrance Day ceremony. ONE VERY PROUD PRINCIPAL... WELL DONE ONE ALL!!

06.01.2022 Radii Survey Families would have recently received the annual Radii Survey that is placed out to all Catholic Schools annually. To date we have a 7% return rate with 30% being the viable to gain information for the school. Often families say "I haven't got a concern" and don't complete. We need to hear a balanced view, so would encourage those families who may not have concerns to also complete the survey. Tell us what is going right as this can also assist the school moving ...forward as we maintain those areas and allow them to grow further. Often we hear the areas of concerns for families and the affirmations don't get heard. We would love to hear a balance of both!! Thanks for your support in making Joey's the best school we can. Justen Principal
