22.01.2022 Let's storm heaven with prayers for our dear Bishop Peter Elliott who is in hospital fighting for his life after suffering a heart episode yesterday. May the tender Lord hold him close and may our Blessed Mother be ever at his side

19.01.2022 Today we remember all who have served our country at war on Remembrance Day and we especially pray for their families mourning the loss of loved ones who died serving Australia in war-time. Lest we forget. Today also marks the feast day of one of the most popular saints in Europe, St Martin of Tours. It is quite ironic that on this day we honour a Roman cavalry officer who was imprisoned as a conscientious objector and eventually discharged. After he was baptised, he redirec...ted his fighting spirit into a life of pacifism, turning from physical warfare to spiritual, from a battle for wealth and power to a love of poverty and dispossession. May we all draw inspiration from St Martin of Tours that God may direct our foibles to serve His higher purposes and gradually tame our souls to make us the saints He wants us to be. St Martin of Tours, pray for us!

17.01.2022 This Sunday we begin a new liturgical year with the Season of Advent, a time of great hope, expectation and patient waiting. And as Archbishop Peter A Comensoli... reflects, 'Haven't we done a lot of waiting in these last several months!' With places of worship opening up again, Archbishop Comensoli encourages us to visit our local parish and take up the opportunities to return to the physical celebration of Mass and the other sacraments. He's also excited to see parishes around the Archdiocese display their special Advent banners as a sign of welcoming Jesus Christ into our hearts this Christmas. See more

13.01.2022 My prayers are very much with the people of the Philippines with close to one million families impacted by three deadly typhoons in the country in the past month. I pray that through the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe, that Our Lord may offer comfort and hope to all those affected by these natural disasters in our near neighbour. Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us! If you’re able to do so, I encourage you to support Caritas Australia’s appeal efforts to help rebuild struggling communities in the Philippines. 12.01.2022 The readings for this final Sunday of Ordinary Time capture something of how we are called to share in the 'master's happiness'. Jesus tells his disciples the parable of talents, in which three servants are entrusted with property from their master. To the first servant the master gives five 'talents', to the second he gives three, and to the third he gives one. The first two servants invest the talents entrusted to them, and in doing so, increase their master's 'profit'. The... third servant, however, buries his share, reaping no reward. When the master later returns, he is pleased at his investment in the first two servants, and for their good works he offers them more. The third servant, however, merely returns the talent to his master unused and unprofitable even judging his master as he does so. In turn, the master admonishes the servant and banishes him to the darkness. This parable, and today's other readings, remind us that we are not bystanders in this life of faith. By virtue of our baptism, we are called to be workers in the vineyard of the Lord his stewards here on earth. Our faith impels us to use all the gifts we have been entrusted with to plant the seeds of the Gospel wherever we are and however we can. St Paul writes that we know not the Day of the Lord, and nor should we; our task is to be good stewards in the here and now. Then, and only then, will we be like the 'fruitful vine' worthy of a share in our master's happiness. Join us for: - 10.30 am Mass at St Justin's Wheelers Hill on Facebook and YouTube channel or -11am Mass today at St Patrick's Cathedral. 09.01.2022 Friends, thank you for your ongoing prayers for Bishop Peter Elliott, who late last week suffered a serious heart episode. He would be humbled to know how cared for and valued he is across the community. As a brief update, he has had a comfortable couple of days and has been stable though remains in a serious condition. The episodes he experienced have taken a great toll on his health, and we can only wait, in prayer, to see how things progress. (+ Peter Comensoli)

08.01.2022 Blessed Feast day of St Pope Leo the Great!

08.01.2022 This Sunday we will celebrate the beautiful Solemnity of Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. In what has been a tumultuous year so far, this feast is a comforting reminder of Jesus' invitation to trust in Him, our Lord and Saviour. Last Sunday after Mass, Archbishop Peter A Comensoli recorded this short video message where he reflected on finding ways to share Jesus' invitation to a life of hope and mission, especially through one of the Archdiocese's newly revitalised tools for evangelisation: www.melbournecatholic.org.

07.01.2022 Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Jesus Christ, Universal King, the culmination of our liturgical year. Over these last few months, we have been given glimpses into what the Kingdom of God looks and feels like, and we have felt the sense of urgency with which Jesus, our Lord and Shepherd, is calling us to partake in the Kingdom here and now. Today's readings, especially the gospel, shift our focus to the criteria for entry into this kingdom: For I was hungry and you gave m...e food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you made me welcome; naked and you clothed me, sick and you visited me, in prison and you came to see me. (Matthew 25:31-46) Jesus is not king of the mightiest and richest nations and peoples. Rather, he is the kind of king who, like a shepherd in the night, will leave his flock to go and find the one missing. Ours is a king of the lost, the stray, the wounded and the weak. Our criteria, then, for entering the kingdom of heaven is our generosity in action, in time, in love and in our closeness with the poor. It is this same generosity that our Lord freely and lovingly bestows upon each one of us. I myself will pasture my sheep, I myself will show them where to rest it is the Lord who speaks. (Ezekiel 34:15) See more
