22.01.2022 THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING YOUR STORY, PEARL Gatehouse asked me to write about what amphetamines did in my life. (PS, everyone reading this- ‘Ice’ and ‘Speed’ are two different common words for amphetamines. I use the word Speed). Well, the first thing Speed did for me was it set me free. I was full of fear and confusion. All my life 'til that point, I'd found it hard to live in my own skin. I'd done all sorts of things to control myself or my world to make myself feel okay. ...Continue reading

19.01.2022 Our Deepest gift In a year full of uncertainty and upheaval the gift of kindness and the spirit of community has gotten us through. We could not have done it without you! St Kilda Gatehouse puts women and girls at the very heart of our work. ... When you donate to St Kilda Gatehouse your gift enables us to support vulnerable women and girls. You help us reach out to those struggling with loneliness and isolation, provide food and toiletries, create safe places of belonging and ensure that we connect those at risk to the legal, health and housing support they need to make positive life choices. Your gift provides these things and so much more. Your generosity can change the life of someone who has found this year particularly difficult and remind them they are not alone. Please consider making a donation at the following link https://bit.ly/3m9BPyd May you experience the deep gifts of hope, peace, love and joy this Christmas.

03.01.2022 HOPE: only 4 weeks to go...Follow the link at https://bit.ly/3m9BPyd where your gift can continue to keep making a difference.#givingtuesday2020 Elsie's involvement with the Young Women's Project extends back four years. We spoke the other day about the first time she came to the Centre. She relayed to me how she had felt. She said that she was a "shy person back then", lacking confidence and unsure of herself. She had just come out of a very damaging relationship with a man ...who caused her to question her value and worth apart from him. Her housing situation was unstable and her family did not want to know her. But Elsie found something that day when she visited the Young Women's Centre. Something she had not experienced in a long time. Something that grew inside her the more she visited. She found belonging. Elsie attended every session of the Group Work Program that she could. She took public transport over great distances just to be there. Despite her changing housing situations, great trials and heartaches, she would be there. And she encouraged the other young women to come as well and acted as a support to them between sessions. When I asked her recently what Gatehouse meant to her she not only wrote a poem but she added "The support you get from them is one of a kind. You have to believe me when I say to you that I could not be where I am right now without them. They have helped me come out of my shell and find my confidence". We value and respect this young woman, her life and her story. What love we have given, we have received far greater in return. See more
