25.01.2022 We've been getting a lot of people asking when the breakwater will reopen! Unfortunately, we don't know when this will be, but if you're looking for that penguin connection, here's a video to give you a penguin fix while we wait!
21.01.2022 Thanks to Julianne, Zoe and Andrew from Earthcare St Kilda for rescuing this penguin entangled with fishing line on the breakwater. Unfortunately the line had been entangled and tight for a while and the penguin needed vet assistance. After treatment and observation overnight, the penguin will thankfully be released back into the colony today. We see fishing line in the colony all too often. We also regularly find hooks attached to line. We urge everyone, please do not fish... from the breakwater. Snags are inevitable and it is only a matter of time before the next penguin gets entangled. Photo by Andrew Falbo
09.01.2022 PENGUIN VIEWING CLOSED Due to COVID-19, Parks Victoria will be installing temporary fencing and preventing access onto the breakwater as of the 15th March. This decision has been made for the welfare of volunteers, PV employees and visitors. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time.
08.01.2022 The beautiful blue feathers of a little penguin chick The last time we were out on the breakwater was just before the stage 3 lockdown and we were starting to see some big chicks still with all their down feathers. We expect by now there will be a number of beautiful blue chicks getting ready to fledge. Good luck little ones!
