19.01.2022 Dear St Luke’s family, It is with some sadness that we move to Stage 4 Restrictions this week, including restrictions or closure of many workplaces in Greater Melbourne from tonight, and a curfew, 8pm-5am every day. Let us pray for the great City of Frankston, and also for Melbourne. Stage 4 means that our St Luke’s community can leave home, outside curfew hours, for only one of four reasons: to obtain necessary goods and services, care and care giving, exercise, and permit...ted work. When we leave home there are certain requirements that are now in place. St Luke’s will continue her mission and ministry to the City of Frankston, but in an adapted, flexible form. For example, our Office has now transitioned to a remote ‘home office’ mode. In general, no visitors or members are permitted to enter our main site except to facilitate our video broadcasts. Coffee on Kareela continues to offer a take away service only. And our St Luke’s Sunday Broadcasts and Footsteps children’s program continues via online delivery. 13.01.2022 A Prayer for Lebanon after the explosion Life in our cities can be so unstable. Yet we are shocked by the massive explosion in Beirut. Psalm 46 promises that Go...d is our comfort now. It also points to an unshakeable heavenly city that he is building. God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. (from Psalm 46, NIV) Almighty and most merciful Father, God of every nation, we pray for those in Lebanon, devastated by this recent, massive explosion. We grieve for those who have lost their lives so suddenly. Bring consolation and comfort to the families forever changed by loss. Sustain emergency service personnel searching for survivors, and over-stretched medical staff coping with the injured. Protect those who have survived and heal their memories of trauma and devastation. May they have the courage to face the long road of rebuilding ahead. We ask your mercy on all who have lost their homes, livelihoods, security or hope. Bless the work of relief agencies who will providing longer-term assistance. Sustain all those who seek to serve others, so that they may repair ruined streets and be the restorers of cities. Holy God, you are our comfort and strength in times of disaster and crisis. Surround us now with your grace and peace through explosion and pandemic, through man-made civil strife, and through natural disasters. In an unstable world, enable Christians to point to a sure and certain future made available to all who trust in the resurrection of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Then keep our hearts focused on the needs of others, even after this crisis is over. So by your Spirit, lift up those who have fallen, and fill us with the hope of the heavenly city that cannot be shaken; through Jesus Christ, our rock and redeemer. Amen. Thanks to Sandy Grant and St Michaels Cathedral Wollongong

03.01.2022 23rd March 2020. Dear brothers and sisters, Here at St Lukes we are doing what we can, with the strength and wisdom God supplies, to push down the COVID-19 curve. Our Lord taught us to love our neighbour, and showed in his own ministry Gods heart for the vulnerable. We want to obey his teaching, we want to imitate him. Pushing down the curve though social distancing is the key way we can love our neighbour and imitate Christ in these days. ... We are thankful for our leaders. Archbishop Philip Freier has directed that all parish groups, meeting either on or off-site, be suspended until further notice, effective Monday March 23. For us at St Lukes, this includes: Mainly Music, all Life Groups, Craft Group, Patchwork Group, Mothers Union, Footsteps and Busy Bees or any other St Lukes group, & includes our services of worship. This is a sad but necessary step to help us love our neighbour, using social distancing to push down the COVID-19 curve. In this difficult time, were still encouraging all our members to adopt faith stances so as to not just be good citizens, but fruitful disciples in all circumstances. Above all persevere in prayer for our Nation, State and the City of Frankston. Especially to pray for our authorities -secular and medical- as they deploy resources to protect the most vulnerable. More suggestions for faith stances that disciples may adopt are below. Continuing Pastoral Care and Fellowship. In this time of unprecedented change, I am working with our Pastoral Care Coordinator, Life Groups Coordinator, and a few others to strengthen ministry & body life beyond what may occur face to face. We are moving towards a new focus on phone, social media, email or text contact. I value each of our precious members, and want you to know that we are doing all we can to prepare for continuing to serve you over coming months, in a variety of ways. And finding ways for our members to keep blessing one another, even if not in person. Because of Christs resurrection, we are not overcome by fear of anything in this world, though we are committed to taking care in our response to the current circumstance. I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present not the futurenor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us form the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8.38-39. Yours in him. Rev Glen, Lead Minister St Lukes
