23.01.2022 This Remembrance Day, St Mark’s College remembers all those who have died, suffered or served in war, including St Mark’s Collegians who were killed during World War Two and in whose honour the College’s Memorial Building was built. Their names can be found on the commemorative plaque on the ground floor of the Memorial Building. During NAIDOC week, we also particularly acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who have died, suffered or served in war. @kd_m_p

21.01.2022 Congratulations to Iman Westhead, who has been appointed as our Indigenous Student Advisor for 2021. A proud Wiradjuri woman from Mildura, Iman will be in her third year at St Mark’s in 2021. Currently studying a Bachelor of Community Health at UniSA and transferring to a Bachelor of Nursing in 2021, Iman is passionate about supporting her peers. Iman follows her brother Seth (St Mark’s alumnus 2013-2015) and sister Arna (St Mark’s alumna 2018-2019) in being a leader among he...r College peers. A new position for 2021, the Indigenous Student Advisor provides pastoral care and support to all current Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Working closely with the Dean, Director of Learning, and Registrar, the ISA also acts as representative for current Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, assisting in the recruitment to College of future Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, maintaining relationships with local Elders and with relevant university support services, and assisting in the organisation of events that celebrate Indigenous culture and history. 20.01.2022 Today is the 45th anniversary of the death of Kathleen Lilias Needham (1900-1975), who established the Charles Allan Seymour Hawker Scholarships in memory of her brother, C.A.S. Hawker MP. Charles Hawker was a soldier, pastoralist, and significant Australian political leader who was one of the founders of St Mark’s College in the 1920s, and served on its Council until his death in an air crash in 1938. Hawker Scholarships enable outstanding students to come into residence at St Mark’s and at some colleges interstate and in Cambridge. We at St Mark’s remain deeply grateful to Lilias Needham for her generosity to the College in many ways, from which our students continue to benefit. Her biography of Charles Hawker also remains a significant source of understanding this great Australian, whose legacy lives on.

We encourage all members of the St Mark’s community to engage with NAIDOC Week events around the country. You can find out more about events here: https://www.naidoc.org.au/ For those in Adelaide, we suggest attending the Reflections: Connecting to Country through Art exhibition at the University of Adelaide, which is open until the 27th of November.
