13.01.2022 Hi all. St Marks September garage sale is on next Saturday and we wanted to share with you a little about how the proceeeds of the garage sale will go on to be a small help to some of our more vulnerable members in society. We also wanted to share how we, over the past 12 months, have been developing partnerships within the wider Church and local community to share in opportunities to take Gods love to those especially in need of it. We look forward to seeing old friends return next Saturday and meeting new ones. God bless Rev Suzie.

06.01.2022 This Tuesday Carolyn has kindly told me about SAGE, which is a social activties group for everyone: This group is one of the activities of St Marks Uniting Church which hopes to reach out to our neighbours in a safe place at Mt Gravatt East. Recent burgeoning of medium density housing indicates many people are new to the area, and could benefit from a place to find connections and a sense of community. SAGE does this, by welcoming people to the church property every Wednesda...y morning of school term from 9.30am-12 noon for free activities, chat, and morning tea. This time gives people opportunities to hear of community events they may wish to participate in, to learn new skills, to have fun and meet people. Children are also welcomed, with age-appropriate activities provided. Part of the beauty of the morning, is the opportunity for relationship: from the tiniest of children to the oldest attendee. There are no ongoing requirements to attend, although we have a core attendance of about 30 people. Currently there are a variety of activities on offer, with expertise shared: crafts, bead making, art, mosaics, tatting, table games, cards, technology, rug making and sewing. If other activities are wished for, we are open to them starting. We also have a book and jigsaw borrowing nook. Some people come to chat, others to complete their own projects, some to develop skills, while others work together to address community need. 15 Fiddle Blankets were sewn for people with dementia in a Blue Care facility, and currently many beanies and fingerless gloves are being created for the homeless in Logan City. Quilts are also being created for those in need. The wider community is hearing of our activities, and are coming with their requests. We are finding people from diverse backgrounds enjoy the opportunity, some improve their English through our activities, and we all gain friendship. We welcome everyone! Please come and say hello, and if you would like to talk further, please contact the minister, or Carolyn: 0468 930 050.

06.01.2022 Well done St Marks peeps and thank you community members for your support for another fantastic garage sale. We will keep you posted on the amount raised. If you would like to make a donation towards the BBQ get in touch on our Facebook page. Amounts over $2 are tax deductible. God bless

03.01.2022 We have a Thursday post instead of a Tuesday post this week about one of the groups who work behind the scenes to keep St Marks up to date and communicating effectively. Our social media accounts and newsletter are run by a lovely group of people and Laura, who produces the newsletter every week, had a chat to me about it: What is the newsletter used for? "Its a document that is updated each week, and can be accessed via Facebook, email or in hard copy at each service. It ...shows what everyone at St Marks is up to and whats happening in the local community." What do you like about producing the newsletter each week? "I like being able to communicate with all members of St Marks and keeping everyone up to date with events and announcements in the congregation." Having people who are willing to serve and be available each week is one of the wonderful parts of a community like St Marks and we give thanks for all our volunteers who are so vital to the community.

03.01.2022 We did it! $5000 raised for a BBQ that will be installed at a domestic violence refuge. Thank you Mt Gravatt and surrounds for making this dream a reality. This BBQ offers 4 to 5 families living in one house, the extra cooking facilities needed come dinner time. It also provides an opportunity for the residents to form community in a safe space. All praise to Lord Jesus for his strength and support. Pictured St Marks Treasurer Dave Allen, Uniting Care Communitys Stephen Francis and Rev Suzie Castle.
