09.01.2022 We often hear that Christmas is a time for giving. Indeed who hasn’t been caught up in the madness of Christmas shopping this last week or so? People out searching for just the right gift for those they love. It can be stressful but it is a wonderful tradition. At the heart of all this Christmas giving is God’s great gift to us in Jesus. God gift of Jesus is the ultimate in self-giving. That self-giving finds many echoes in our world and in our lives. The self-giving love of ...parents for their children, the self-giving love of those who work in service of those who are poor or in need are just a couple of examples. The self-giving gift of Christmas has found expression in a remarkable way in our parish over recent months. Two examples come to mind. First, behind the parish house we have a flat that is now ready to accommodate asylum seekers; it has been fully furnished and fitted out with new appliances all gifts of generous families from our parish school and mass communities. The second example is one that is repeated in this parish year after year through the collection and distribution of Christmas hampers for the needy and lonely of our area. This year our St Vincent de Paul group prepared 143 hampers which have been lovingly distributed.
