03.05.2022 Death and funeral notice: Stephen John Blowes

25.04.2022 Today marks the feast day of Our Lady of Fatima and the actual anniversary of the first of six apparitions of the Virgin Mary to the three children of Fátima, P...ortugal in 1917. The children had a vision of a woman surrounded by light who identified herself as the Lady of the Rosary. She exhorted them to pray the Rosary for world peace over the course of six apparitions. She promised a miracle during the October apparition, and on the 13th of that month, a crowd of about 70,000 people witnessed a "miraculous solar phenomenon, in which the sun appeared to spin and then fall toward the earth. Following the normal process in authenticating the said apparitions, the Vatican accepted them as being worthy of belief in 1930. Fátima is now the location of one of the greatest Marian shrines in the world today. One of the children, Lucia, became a Carmelite nun and lived to the age of 97, while the other two, Jacinta and Francisco, died as children as a result of the influenza pandemic of 191819. The pious siblings were beatified in 2000 by Pope John Paul II, making them the youngest non-martyred children to be beatified in the history of the Church. They were canonised as saints by Pope Francis in 2017 to coincide with the 100th anniversary of their visions. 07.01.2022 Today we remember the Passion of Saint John the Baptist who was beheaded due to his great courage in calling others to God. The cousin of Jesus, the son of Saint Elizabeth and the nephew of our Lady, Saint John the Baptist was regarded by King Herod as a holy man and that he had to get control of him as his followers were growing. Afraid to kill him he had him imprisoned. On Herod’s birthday, his new wife’s daughter danced before him and his guests and in his drunkenness prom...ised to give her anything she desired. When she asked her mother what she should ask for, she was told to ask for the head of John the Baptist on a platter. Herod was appalled by the request but reluctantly agreed and had him executed in prison. Saint John the Baptist spoke the truth with great courage not only by preaching, but by example. He fasted in the desert, and prepared the way for Jesus. His life and death were a giving over of self for God and his people. Saint John the Baptist pray for us. See more
