25.01.2022 Chopstick Challenges! Year 8 Chinese Language students have recently participated in a series of Chopstick Challenges. Students had to move M&Ms and Skittles from one side of their desk to the other (fully sanitised of course!). Students also counted out the candy to practise numbers and then ate them one by one using their chopsticks. Some students had never really known how to use chopsticks before and thanked Mrs Paterson for developing a new found talent and sharing the history of this great invention!

25.01.2022 WE BELIEVE IN YOU! We wish Year 12 students every success in the HSC TRIAL Exams that commenced today. We are proud of your resilience and courage! See you all tomorrow for Day Two!

23.01.2022 Lifelong learning and global change! Our college has recently taken out top honours in the 2020 Lake Macquarie School Environment Awards! These awards recognise and support the efforts of schools in participating in environmental improvement projects. Students exist in a time when they have access to information, and they are very aware of the environmental crisis that our planet faces. St Mary’s Catholic College provides an opportunity for students to be an active part in ...doing something to make a difference. Participating in the Environmental Awards encourages our students to be involved and to make a difference from the ground up planting trees, controlling weeds, caring for bee hives, collecting Return and Earn recycling, rehabilitating native habitat, managing our waste, growing vegetables and herbs and being stewards of our Earth. Our school is nearing completion of major renovations with building designs incorporating passive heating and cooling to conserve energy usage. Kamryn Posner and Zac McDonald, both in Year 10 and both members of the Environmental Team are pictured here receiving the award from LMCC. See more

22.01.2022 Way to go Jack!

21.01.2022 Building works are progressing at SMCCG! Roofing was completed last month, and wall frames and windows have been installed in the upper level. The grand staircase is visible to students and staff from the main quadrangle and what a beauty it is! This grand staircase will allow for more shaded student seating and provide for an additional year group assembly space. We can't wait to use the new facilities from the start of 2021!

18.01.2022 Men at Work! On Friday 26 June, the Year 12 VET Construction class, under the guidance of Mr Asimus, worked busily on pouring a concrete slab next to our school basketball courts. The VET class completed the concreting task as one of their Construction Course competencies. From preparation of foundations, to the construction of the formwork, levelling of the ground and the final pour, the task was completed with energy and excellent team work. Great job, team, and a huge thank you from our community!

07.01.2022 Thank you to St Mary's Catholic College, Gateshead for inviting me to speak with some of your students yesterday. It was great to be able to tell them more about my job including my shadow portfolio responsibilities, how laws are passed and the structure of governments.

06.01.2022 St Mary's Olympics 2020! Not even a pandemic can put a stop to our "elite" athletes! Year 10 PASS classes are studying Event Management, basing their study around the Olympics. The classes are devising and teaching their own lessons by each organising an event from the Olympics and keeping score of the top country across the three Year 10 PASS classes. Students are assessed while learning throughout the term, based on the organisation of their own lesson and how well they participate in other students' lessons. Congratulations to all Year 10 PASS students for their ongoing commitment, organisation and independence!

We congratulate our Year 11 nominees, not only for putting themselves forward, but for taking risks and being willing to learn from new experiences. A huge thank you to Mrs Tobin and Mrs Addicoat for their organisation and planning, and to Helene O'Neill from CSO for joining us for part of the day. Congratulations to all involved!
