17.01.2022 RECONCILIATION WEEK AT ST.MARYS Our Reconciliation week has given the students many opportunites to experience Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectiv...ely build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures. St Marys participated in Reconciliation Week activities from Wednesday 27 May - Wednesday 3 June. Our Indigenous students led an Acknowledgement of Country as well as a fact about Reconciliation Week each morning. They also went around to the classes to help with the activities. Here is a snapshot of our week. See more

17.01.2022 Congratulations to Christy in Year 6 for her informative student-centered inquiry project! She was lucky enough to be mentored by Professor Olivier Piguet at the University of Sydney who shared his wealth of knowledge about Dementia with her. Christy’s video explains her project in more detail. Well done Christy, we are so proud of you!

15.01.2022 STEM at St. Marys Year 3 and Year 4 have been working on a very exciting STEM task during Science this term. Their task was to design and build a model school for people who were going to colonise Mars. The students had to consider the following before they began building their model: Where will the school be located on the planet? How will it be safe?... Which new subjects will the students study and how? Students followed five steps during the STEM process: ASK: Define the problem IMAGINE: Brainstorm possible solutions PLAN: Think, sketch and label CREATE: Make a prototype and test it IMPROVE: How can you modify your design to make it better? Students could only use cardboard, paper, sticky tape, glue and straws. They took on different roles throughout the week - Director, Manager and Speaker. The students then presented their STEM task to the rest of Stage 2. Finally, they evaluated their learning by giving their group members constructive feedback. Stage 2 worked extremely hard and thought critically and creatively throughout the task. We are very impressed with what they came up with! See more

14.01.2022 Year 3 created their very own Dreamtime story today using these beautiful story stones that they hand painted. The students researched Aboriginal symbols, drew them on the stones and then painted them. The children had to remember what each stone represented as they built their Dreamtime stories. This activity highlights the significance of Aboriginal symbols while teaching creative thinking. #alwayswasalwayswillbe #naidocweek #naidoc2020

07.01.2022 At St. Marys we recognise that birthdays look different at this time. So we have come up with a special way for your child to celebrate their birthday by wearing MUFTI on their special day. Birthdays and other milestones allow children to feel connected to their community and friends. At a time when communities arent able to physically come together, its especially important to remind children they still have a network that cares for them and here at St. Marys we care for each and every child. So while this pandemic is on lets continue to celebrate each childs special day in a different way. During this time if you wish to send a treat in for your child to share with others on their special day remember it must be individually sealed for the purpose of strict observance of hygiene rules.

It is a national celebration of Indigenous culture, stories, language and literacy. Some of our Indigenous students at St. Marys went around to the classrooms today to share Indigenous books with the school. They encouraged the classes to choose a book and read it together to recognise Indigenous Literacy Day 2020. Look at the wonderful books our students will be reading!
