22.01.2022 Yr 3 are leading the way in Learning as they design solutions to help protect a NSW endangered animal. The students worked on helping either The Barking Owl,The Squirrel Glider, or The Giant Dragonfly. Their first job was to gather as much information as they could on their chosen animal & present it as an information report poster. From here, they worked out why their animal was threatened, what they could do to help protect it, & how they could communicate this message to others.

12.01.2022 In Yr 3, we have been connecting our learning in Religion & English. We read the story of the woman who washed Jesus’ feet & we heard Jesus’ message of spreading God’s love through forgiveness. Using our Poetry writing skills from English, we wrote Cinquains about characters from the story to help us understand them better. We loved being able to connect our learning in this way!

He is a blessing to SMP & will help us continue to improve as a school.

11.01.2022 On behalf of our SMP community I would like to very much welcome Mr Cohen Parrish onto our team in 2021. Cohen was born & raised in the Lismore area where he attended Catholic schools. He completed his studies at SCU with a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education (Primary/Secondary) where he majored in Geography. He enjoys watching movies, playing sport, hitting the surf & spending time with family & friends....especially his best mate ‘Gus’ (His Dog). This year he loved being part of some amazing learning experiences throughout History, STEM & PDHPE, where he was also able to develop a lot of great relationships with the students & staff here at SMP. He is very grateful to be able to return to SMP for 2021 & looks forward to working with students, parents, carers & the wider community. Welcome to SMP Cohen!

10.01.2022 Our students in Kinder & Yr One are exploring learning through investigative play this term. These investigations happen each morning before students engage in their normal English, Math & RE learning. This type of pedagogy teaches children social skills, problem solving, encourages creativity & helps to further embed English & Math skills. It is obvious that our students are loving investigations & our rooms are alive with enthusiasm from both teachers & students. Most of these photos were taken by the kids as part of their learning.

07.01.2022 Today is Mercy Day: At SMP We Respect & Remember the Sisters of Mercy. In 1887 the Sisters of Mercy, at the request of Bishop Doyle, came to provide a Catholic education for the children of Casino. The school was previously led by a teacher & had been operating for 3 years from 1884. The Sisters started our school with 40 students. Reverend Mother Donegan was our first principal. Over the years, the Sisters of Mercy followed in the footsteps of their founder Catherine McAuley. They taught & helped the children and families of our school, helped the sick & the lonely of our community. The last teaching Sister of Mercy, Sr Josephine left our school in 1992. Sr Mary & Sr Francis still teach music to our kids today.
