23.01.2022 Dear Parents and Carers, I hope you are well and your transition to learning from home is going smoothly. Our School remains open and we will continue to support all parents and carers who are not in a position to care for their children at home. ... As of Monday, our school will have all of the St Marys South staff working on a rotational roster from home. I have asked our teacher and office staff to work from home in line with NSW Department of Health and NSW Department of Education requests. A small number of staff will be present each day to support attending students, answer questions and support you. Our teachers continue to develop and release quality learning material for our students on a daily basis online. If your child/children are working offline, the same learning material is available for collection from our school office each Monday. If your children are working offline it is important that you return the completed work for marking and more importantly to receive feedback for improvement. Please take the time to review all the feedback whether it is online or on hardcopy with your children. Effective instructional feedback is one of the most powerful influences on student learning and achievement. Students need to continue to complete their learning tasks. We are aware of a small number of students who have either not engaged with the online learning (yes, we can see them) or have not collected printed material from the school office, teachers will be making contact with those families throughout the week to see how we can support their learning. I would like to once again thank you for your overwhelming support of your children and the teachers of our school through this unprecedented time. You and our teachers are the true heroes. I look forward to seeing all our students, all our teachers and you soon. Stay well.

13.01.2022 RETURN TO FULL-TIME FACE TO FACE LEARNING MONDAY 25 MAY 2020 Dear Parents and Carers, I am pleased to welcome all our students back to full-time face to face learning at our school starting Monday 25 May 2020. I believe they will all be looking forward to joining their school friends and teachers as we slowly return to our normal routines.... I would like to sincerely thank you for your efforts in supporting your children and our school during these unprecedented times. As the Learning from Home program draws to a close, I am encouraged by the many success stories of our students and the challenges that were overcome by our parents and carers as they continued the important learning and improvement of our students. Our advice from the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) and NSW Health is that schools continue to be safe. Whilst at school we ask all students to follow good hygiene practices, such as Regularly washing hands Avoid sharing drinks or food Coughing or sneezing into their elbow, or a tissue which should be discarded immediately. We are looking forward to all students returning to school unless they are unwell or have a medical certificate to support their absence. To help keep everyone safe there will be additional cleaning during the day at school. Students will need to bring to school; A water bottle to refill - bubblers will not be accessible Their recess and lunch - the canteen will not be open Their own pencils, pens, rulers etc.- there will be no sharing of equipment Their laptop (if they have borrowed one from school) I ask that you help us reduce the possible spread of COVID-19 by staying in your car when children are being dropped off or picked up from school. All parents and carers are asked to observe social distancing and refrain from gathering at the school gates when students are entering or leaving the school. Parents are welcome to enquire at the school office. I ask that parents not enter the school grounds. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have further questions. I sincerely thank you for your understanding and support. Mr H.Vassila Principal

11.01.2022 Dear Parents and Caregivers, I hope this message finds you well. I have no doubt you are aware of the Premier and Education Minister's media briefing earlier this week regarding learning in NSW Public Schools in Term 2. The Premier announced the transition back to the classroom model for Term 2. NSW Public School students will gradually transition back to school, one day per week, beginning in Week 3 (Monday 11 May). The beginning of next term sees Monday 27 April remain as ...a pupil-free School Development Day. Tuesday 28 April has now also been announced as an additional pupil-free School Development Day to allow for additional planning and professional learning for teachers and staff. The Remote Learning model will re-commence from Wednesday 29 April similar to the end of last term. Families who are able to keep their children home to learn remotely are asked to please do so to assist us with social distancing. Those students who are unable to be supervised at home, because of your work commitments, are welcome to attend school. On Monday 11 May, we will move into Phase One of the managed return to school for students. In this phase, all NSW students will attend school one day per week and learn remotely 4 days per week. It is anticipated that all NSW students will increase the number of days at school before the end of the term, under the advice of NSW Health. There will be additional cleaning during the day at school and social distancing measures in place. Next week, I will work with the executive team and staff to organise and structure St Marys Souths Public School's Phase One managed return for our students. I will communicate the structure as early as possible to give families enough time to make arrangements. This term will certainly bring challenges but I am confident we can work through them together as a community. The website https://education.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/advice-for-families has been updated and may have information that interests you. All the best for the last few days of the holidays. Mr H.Vassila

08.01.2022 LEARNING FROM HOME - TERM 2 2020 8 April 2020 Dear Parents and Carers Thank you for your incredibly hard work in these challenging times. Youve pivoted under extraordinary circumstances, providing a continuity of education for your children that is remarkable.... The Department of Education is working closely with the Department of Health regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, our current advice is that we must continue with Learning from Home well into Term 2. Unfortunately, I cannot give you a date when normal school operations will resume. It is encouraging to note that at present social distancing is working and the rate of infection of COVID-19 is slowing. Our teachers will continue to work with you, by providing quality learning material online or in paper copy. We encourage you to persist with online work as teachers can provide effective feedback more efficiently. Students also have access to a greater range of learning resources such as video and interactive programs like reading books. We will continue to support families without computers by providing computers on loan. We still have several computers available for borrowing. Please take advantage of our offer. In term 2, all our teachers will be working from home, with teams of teachers attending school once per week to finalise student work before it is released. Our teachers are collaboratively operating in 4 stage teams ES1- (Kindergarten), Stage 1-(Years 1 and 2), Stage 2-(Years 3 and 4) and Stage 3-(Years 5 and 6). To support classroom teachers we have included additional teachers in each team to support the learning of each child. You may have noticed some of the feedback your child is receiving may not be from their normal classroom teacher. I encourage your children to review the feedback that teachers are providing. It is this feedback that has the greatest impact on learning. That is, the next time they encounter similar work they should be able to remember the feedback and apply it to their new learning. I encourage you to contact the school for any assistance. Endeavouring to teach your children is not an easy task. I know this from experience. When our children were younger, Heather and I would have to persevere to support our children's learning. With much love, care, encouragement and staying calm, I believe we did well. Perhaps too well, as we now find ourselves supporting both children in completing their University work. I wish to thank you, again, for the tremendous support of our teachers and their work. This has been the most extraordinary period of our lives. It has been exciting to see so much community spirit mobilised to support each other during these constantly changing times. We are all in this together. Have a safe and happy Easter break, I look forward to seeing everyone soon. Mr H.Vassila Principal
