25.01.2022 CONGRATULATIONS TO AVA who is a Year 6 Finalist in the Diocesan Christmas Art Competition. Ava’s beautiful work is below. Through Joseph’s Eyes Matthew 1:18-25... Birth of Christ Have you ever wondered what Joseph felt as he gazed at his newborn, wrapped in the arms of his new wife? Deep down, Joseph knew that Jesus wasn’t his own, however he knew he would love him like his own. My artwork Through Joseph’s Eyes depicts the loving scene that Joseph saw on that Starry Night. I was inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night and especially the way Vincent showed emotion in his artwork. I used Vincent’s techniques of creating dashes and swirls with watercolour to add the emotions of sadness, love and compassion to my artwork. This is reflected in my colour scheme of shades of brown and yellow. As I gaze at my finished artwork, I am reminded of my Aunt Kate and her newborn baby Jessica. The love of a parent is infinite and strong.

16.01.2022 CONGRATULATIONS TO BREANNA who is a Year 5 Finalist in the Diocesan Christmas Art Competition. This is her beautiful work below. Peace, Hope and Joy... Matthew 2:9-12 Peace is a gift to our world. It brings us together. Peace is represented in my artwork as the first gift of the Magi, the calming incense of Frankincense. When it was given to Jesus, he became peaceful. Do you need peace in your life? Hope is something that we all have, but is easily lost. We are always hopeful, especially when we have bumps in our life. Hope has been represented in my artwork through the bumpy application of impasto and the second gift of Myrrh. Myrrh is a healing oil and Jesus went on to heal others. Do you need hope in your life? Joy is happiness, it’s gold! Gold is for a king, like Jesus. The third gift of gold, reminds us of the joy in our lives. Our families are pure joy to us. Do you need joy in your life? My artwork is inspired by my artistic aunt who’s currently having challenges in her life. She uses fabrics and impasto to create her artworks too. My aunt brings peace, hope and joy to me.

02.01.2022 CONGRATULATIONS TO MITCHELL on being a Year 6 Finalist in the Diocesan Christmas Art Competition. Mitchell’s beautiful work is below. PERSPECTIVE... Matthew 1:18-25 I’ve often wondered how the birth of Christ is seen in the modern world. Mary went through the daunting journey from the world she knew in Nazareth, to the chaos of Bethlehem, created by the census. My artwork depicts this tough journey and birth. The focus of my artwork is Mary nursing her child, Jesus. Branching off from Mary, are five yellow boxes containing a silhouette depicting main events surrounding the birth of Jesus. The elements to the outer edge of the artwork, depict the modern person’s view of the story. King Herod’s greed for power and money is represented in wads of money and dollar signs. It was his greed that impacted Mary. The creatures, shapes and colours reflect the multicultural world Jesus created for us and how we are all unique. My technique was to sketch, then ink with a brush tip fineliner and finally colour with alcohol-based markers. I created my art this way because I love drawing street art. My style is called doodling and my artist inspiration is Edan Shimr. I have created a modern street art version of the Christmas story.
