20.01.2022 In support of the people in Lebanon

14.01.2022 If any be a devout lover of God, let him partake with gladness from this fair and radiant feast. If any be a faithful servant, let him enter rejoicing into the joy of his Lord. If any have wearied himself with fasting, let him now enjoy his reward. If any have laboured from the first hour, let him receive today his rightful due. If any have come after the third, let him celebrate the feast with thankfulness.... If any have come after the sixth, let him not be in doubt, for he will suffer no loss. If any have delayed until the ninth, let him not hesitate but draw near. If any have arrived only at the eleventh, let him not be afraid because he comes so late. For the Master is generous and accepts the last even as the first. He gives rest to him who comes at the eleventh hour in the same was as him who has laboured from the first. He accepts the deed, and commends the intention. Enter then, all of you, into the joy of our Lord. First and last, receive alike your reward. Rich and poor, dance together. You who fasted and you who have not fasted, rejoice together. The table is fully laden: let all enjoy it. The calf is fatted: let none go away hungry. Let none lament his poverty; for the universal Kingdom is revealed. Let none bewail his transgressions; for the light of forgiveness has risen from the tomb. Let none fear death; for death of the Saviour has set us free. He has destroyed death by undergoing death. He has despoiled hell by descending into hell. He vexed it even as it tasted of His flesh. Isaiah foretold this when he cried: Hell was filled with bitterness when it met You face to face below; filled with bitterness, for it was brought to nothing; filled with bitterness, for it was mocked; filled with bitterness, for it was overthrown; filled with bitterness, for it was put in chains. Hell received a body, and encountered God. It received earth, and confronted heaven. O death, where is your sting? O hell, where is your victory? Christ is risen! And you, o death, are annihilated! Christ is risen! And the evil ones are cast down! Christ is risen! And the angels rejoice! Christ is risen! And life is liberated! Christ is risen! And the tomb is emptied of its dead; for Christ having risen from the dead, is become the first-fruits of those who have fallen asleep. To Him be Glory and Power, now and forever, and from all ages to all ages. Amen!

13.01.2022 Today He who hung the earth upon the waters is hung upon the Cross. He Who is King of the angels is arrayed in a crown of thorns. He Who wraps the heaven in clouds is wrapped in the purple of mockery. ... He Who set Adam free in Jordan receives blows upon His face. The Bridegroom of the Church is transfixed with nails. The Son of the Virgin is pierced with a spear. We venerate Your Passion, O Christ. Show us also Your glorious Resurrection +

09.01.2022 On Wednesday in Holy Week it has been ordained by the Holy Fathers that commemoration should be made of the anointing of the Lord with myrrh by the woman who was a sinner, for this occurred shortly before the Passion of the Saviour. The woman who had fallen into many sins, perceiving Your divinity, O Lord, fulfilled the part of a myrrh-bearer; and with lamentations she brought sweet-smelling oil of myrrh to You before Your burial. ‘Woe is me’, she said, ‘for night surrounds... me, dark and moonless, and stings my lustful passion with the love of sin. Accept the fountain of my tears, O You who draw down from the clouds the waters of the sea. Incline to the sighs of my heart, O You who in Your ineffable self-emptying have bowed down the heavens. I shall kiss Your most pure feet and wipe them with the hairs of my head, those feet whose sound Eve heard at dusk in Paradise, and hid herself for fear. Who can search out the multitude of my sins and the abyss of Your judgments, O Saviour of my soul? Despise me not, Your handmaiden, for You have mercy without measure.’ O Christ our God, as You were anointed with tangible myrrh, set us free by Your manifold sufferings and have mercy upon us, for You alone are compassionate and Holy. Amen.

09.01.2022 Arise O God and judge the earth, for you shall inherit all the nations. +

07.01.2022 I see Your Bridal Chamber adorned, O my Saviour, and I have no wedding garment, that I may enter therein; make the robe of my soul to shine, O Giver of light and save me. Matins of Holy Monday, 2020 +

07.01.2022 Behold, the Bridegroom is coming in the middle of the night. Blessed is the servant He shall find awake and watching;. unworthy is the other, He shall find being lazy. So, beware o soul of mine, be not overcome by sleep so that you not be handed over to death and be shut out from the kingdom. Come to your senses and cry aloud: Holy, Holy, Holy are you, O God. Through the intercession of the Theotokos, have mercy on us. + A blessed Holy Week everyone. While, during this prec...ious time in the Orthodox calendar, we are unable to be together under one roof, we can pray, chant, love and meditate on the word of God from our homes. Our very own choir members, Adrienne and Marie Claire have recorded chants from each night of Holy Week to remind us that we can be brought together with prayer for each other and a common hope in the Resurrection of our Lord and Saviour.

05.01.2022 You O Lord who on the same day made the thief worthy of Paradise, illuminate me also by the wood of your and save me +

03.01.2022 When Joseph saw that the sun had hidden its rays, and that the veil of the Temple was rent at the death of the Saviour, he approached Pilate and pleaded with him, crying out and saying: Give me this Stranger, who from His youth has wandered like a stranger, Give me this Stranger, whom His kindred killed in hatred like a stranger. Give me this Stranger, at whom I wonder, beholding Him as a Guest of death.... Give me this Stranger, who knows how to take in the poor and strangers. Give me this Stranger, whom the Jews in envy estranged from the world. Give me this Stranger, so that I may bury Him in a tomb, since being a stranger He has no place to lay His head. Give me this Stranger, to whom His mother cried, as she beheld Him dead, ‘My Son, my inner parts are wounded and my heart burns as I behold You dead, yet I trust in Your Resurrection and I magnify You.’ In these words the noble Joseph pleaded with Pilate, he took the Saviour’s body and with awe wrapped it in linen and balm. He placed You in a tomb, You who grant everlasting life and Great Mercy to all.
