25.01.2022 Three generations working and playing at St Nick's Lochinvar.

25.01.2022 The 'Malu' children have a strong interest in transportation and moving items from one place to another. Educators are building on this interest encouraging the children to serve their own morning tea where possible. Here the children are developing their independence and fine motor skills using the tongs to select their preferred fruit for morning tea!

20.01.2022 Today, the 'Turumpul' children did 'DEAR' during their rest time. 'DEAR' stands for 'Drop Everything And Read'. The children were invited to go outside and find a quiet spot to read and look through their books. The children really enjoyed spending quiet time outside in the sunshine and appreciated having time alone to read and reflect.

19.01.2022 A few weeks ago in the 'Turumpul Room', Zane's Dad, Karl came in to show us his digeridoo. The children really enjoyed listening to the sounds that Karl made with his mouth through the digeridoo. Karl was able to make kangaroo and kookaburra sounds. Zane then had a turn on his Dad’s digeridoo. Zane did really well and even made a couple of digeridoo sounds.... This was an extension on our community camera that Zane had taken home. When the 'Turumpul' children looked at Zane's photos, they were fascinated and intrigued by the instrument. We really appreciate Karl lending his time and skills to help us extend upon interests and incorporate our Indigenous culture into the learning program.

18.01.2022 Educators in the 'Yurra Room' use various concepts to facilitate children’s interests and learning. Recently, the children explored sticky notes!

17.01.2022 The 'Turumpul' children celebrated Easter last week by participating in Easter egg hunts and decorating Easter biscuits!

16.01.2022 As an extension on the children's fascination and interest in insects, educators in the 'Wipi Room' created a small world of bugs. Using the magnifying glasses, the children can further explore the world of bugs. This helps them to understand the natural world around them and their environment.

15.01.2022 Happy 1st Birthday, St Nick's Lochinvar! It's not a birthday without presents, so take a look at some of the wonderful resources staff have purchased for the children to extend on their interests and add to our program.

14.01.2022 Over the last three weeks we have had lots of fun in the 'Malu Room' experimenting with our volcano, watching the chemical reaction as it erupts red bubbly lava! The children have been very engaged in the experience, helping add the ingredients to the top and hypothesising the outcome with educator, Cory. We will keep on having fun with this and are planning to build an even bigger volcano out of papier mache!

11.01.2022 Fun in the 'Yurra Room' last week!

11.01.2022 Tonight, some of our team participated in training by Niki Buchan at St Nick's Chisholm. The training was about supporting babies and toddlers, with an emphasis on documentation. This training helped develop our understanding of children as investigators. It was a great turnout! Many thanks to Chisholm for hosting.

10.01.2022 As part of our Harmony Day celebrations last week, the 'Turumpul' children did some international cooking. This included a recipe for Sri Lankan 'roti bread', supplied by Thea's family, and corn bread - a popular American recipe, supplied by Grayson's family. If you would like a copy of the recipes that we used, feel free to ask staff.

08.01.2022 Last week the 'Kulang' children have been taking very good care of their babies. The children demonstrate respect for their babies as they bath and dry them very carefully and gently.

08.01.2022 As a further extension of the children’s interest in dinosaurs, the 'Wipi' children helped to create a miniature dino world to explore. The children's miniature dino world even has an active volcano that will be erupting sometime next week. This adds an extra science extension of learning. The 'Wipi' children enjoyed helping to create their own miniature dino world, as they decided just where to place the rocks and dinosaurs.

08.01.2022 The 'Yurra Room' have been working hard on their entry into the St Nicks Lochinvar Sustainability Challenge! The educators utilised donated items as well as natural items to create two beautiful mobiles.

05.01.2022 Over the last two weeks, the 'Malu' children have had fun experimenting with a volcano! Watching the chemical reaction as the volcano erupts into red bubbly lava has provided a lot of excitement and conversation! The children have been very engaged in the experience, helping add the ingredients to the top and hypothesising the outcome with educator, Cory. We will keep on having fun with this and are planning to build an even bigger Volcano out of papier mache!

05.01.2022 Sustainable play station made by 'Kulang' teachers and loved by 'Kulang' children! #sustainabilitychallenge

04.01.2022 The 'Wipi' children have shown an increased interest and enthusiasm for cleaning up after themselves. To extend on this interest, educators in the 'Wipi Room' have introduced washing the dishes after lunch. This teaches the 'Wipi' children independence, responsibility and reinforces that washing the dishes can be fun!

03.01.2022 A new game, 'Catch the Worm', has been introduced to the 'Wipi Room'. Using a magnet, the children have to catch the worm. This game promotes hand-eye coordination, turn-taking, patience, and improves cognitive skills.

03.01.2022 The 'Kulang Room' has been overtaken by Easter Rabbits!

03.01.2022 Thank you to the 'Kulang' children, who have bought in their favourite books to share with their friends and teachers. This is a lovely way for educators to connect with children and experience the books they are reading at home.

01.01.2022 Last week, when the 'Malu' children were outside, Kristy found a frog in a box. Kristy invited all of the 'Malu' children over to have a look. The 'Malu' friends sat down quietly and started asking questions about the frog: ‘’Is that a froggy - Eloine... Can I touch the frog - Tobias ‘’Oh he jumped - Tobias Can I pat - Ace ‘’I hold the frog - Ace The children then sat down together observing the frog and it's colours. The frog then jumped out of Kristy’s hand, which sent Logan into a ball of laughter. "Can we all jump like a frog?" In a matter of seconds, the 'Malu' friends were bouncing up and down on their feet and croaking like frogs. A beautiful opportunity of nature in our wonderful playground. This sparked many more questions about the frog - where it lives, what it eats and drinks, and how it ended up in our playground.
