15.01.2022 Streets I awoke today to hear the news Of a man killed openly in broad city streets I sat with horror and shock and cried... Before realising the blood spilt below my own feet How many times had I passed on by Ignoring the wrongs done to brothers and sisters All because I was born lighter skin Because I enjoyed a disgusting privilege How many times had my mouth remained shut Silent and cold when theirs cried for injustice How many words had mine thoughtlessly shed When not one was spared for protest, to discuss this But now its too late I fear to make amends Ive done nothing and now their lives met their end So now my mouth is shut for a very different reason To listen to those affected by this treason They are the only ones who should speak at all I will stand silently with you until no further fall #BLACKLIVESMATTER #BLACKLIVESMATTER #BLACKLIVESMATTER

07.01.2022 Alleys ‘My’ house, the place in which I resided Lay next to an alley, the fences divided What I called ‘mine’ the place where I slept... From the cold, gravel streets, the place we forget And acts of uniform we also forget For they happen outside our tall, white fence Sure, yes the cries they passed over the pickets But we were safe and ignored them, paying more attention to cricket For no one would ever take over ‘our’ homes That’s why we had fences, so no one could roam Upon ‘our’ lands and take them by brute force or crime These were ‘our’ lands, see, there’s the line If someone had taken what’s yours and made it mine It must be because you didn’t have fences, and we think that’s fine When will we see that through fenceline or not We are the wrongdoers, we have forgot How to be human, how to give love Instead we beat and bully via policeman’s glove I’d give it all back to be human again Was I ever? If I could so easily tread Upon this land and call it mine It never was. I’m sorry.
