25.01.2022 For many years the Lockyer Valley region has come under the Brisbane Marketing banner regarding tourism. This has just changed, and we are now a member of the Southern Queensland Country tourism group. Considering we are a country area and not far from Toowoomba, it makes sense to put the advertising dollar in this basket. There are some great advertising videos for this region and some very picturesque spots to visit. Start your roadtrip in the Lockyer Valley for your visit to Toowoomba for the Carnival of flowers. #southernqldcountry #thisisqueensland #lockyervalley #countryliving #farmstay #holidays

23.01.2022 Did you know that we have been open and operating now for over 7 years? We started our business as a response to the terrible impact of floods in 2011 and losing our crop contract the same year. Agriculture was a challenge for us at this time and we felt that we wanted to share the country and the agricultural story with visitors. We had the perfect position to build a house to enjoy views over the farm and so we commenced building Stockton Rise. It wasn’t long before we were not able to accommodate all the visitors so we decided to renovate and prepare our other long term rental and so commenced Glencoe Cottage to join the portfolio.

22.01.2022 Our area is not a widely known tourist area like the Gold or Sunshine Coasts or North Qld. The Lockyer Valley is essentially a farming area and unfortunately we don’t have theme parks or beaches for people to enjoy. We do however, have the countryside with beautiful hills and valleys to explore. Did you know we are in the shadow of the Great Dividing Range which gives us plenty of hills to drive through. Many of the walks are on private property, however, you can visit Glen Rock national park which gives a good indication of the countryside. Drive to Picnic Point in Toowoomba and you can look over the Valley also. #countrydrives #countrylife #lockyervalley #southernqldcountry #thisisqueensland

21.01.2022 We are very fortunate in our area at the moment with some new ventures ready to start up. The first started this weekend and was a new market the Gatton Village Markets which are being held on the 1st Sunday of each month. Our usual and long term Mulgowie Farmers Market is on the 1st Saturday so why not make a weekend to come and visit both? The next two ventures are both patisseries one in Gatton in the historic Braeside Manor and the other is taking on the lease in the Laidley Florist and Tearooms. I can’t wait for these to open and have somewhere special to go for a nice feast. #mulgowiemarket #lockyervalley #thisisqueensland #farmersmarket #tinsandtrays #amazinggracepatisserie #laidleyflorist #gattonvillagemarkets

21.01.2022 Did you know that our accommodation is situated on the old Cob & Co Coast road to Toowoomba? I have recently come across some history of the area written by a relative and there is so much fascinating history just in our area alone. There was a convict and soldier camp across the creek where the convicts were accommodated while building the corduroy road (our road). The local roads were often boggy from rain and flooding. A bridge was built over the creek and is still there h...owever quite dilapidated now. The property owners nearby had a tudor rose garden with a large house, stables and a well and it is thought the coaches would have stopped here, possibly overnight, while on their travels. This road was used up until the time of the railway coming through from Toowoomba in 1867. There is so much history and well worth a visit to the area to learn more. #lockyervalley #SQCountry @SouthernQueenslandCountry #countryliving #farmstay #countryholiday #laidleypioneervillage @laidleypioneervillage #history #qldhistory #cobb&co See more

18.01.2022 I haven’t posted for a few days because we have been a little busy supporting our daughter and integral holiday relief staff member, Jess, after having her 2nd child. We are pleased to welcome our next little helper Matthew Michael. I’m sure he’ll be lots of help in the future as well! Congratulations Jess and Laurie.

18.01.2022 Practical things you need to pack for your holiday at Stockton Rise Country Retreat and Glencoe Cottage. 1. Walking shoes there are plenty of tracks to walk around our farm and take in the vistas and wildlife 2. Binoculars especially if you like bird watching or checking out the wildlife 3. Hat and sunscreen You don’t want to be cooped up inside when staying in the country. Go and explore and do some walks. 4. Spare room in your suitcase we have so many giftshops locally with very interesting products to purchase. Think about the upcoming birthdays in your family and friends and Christmas is very close.

16.01.2022 One of my favourite things about our business is doing our Farm tour. It gives such a great opportunity to spend time with guests. I enjoy the time to get to talk with them and come away feeling like I have life long friends. Mind you, I also feel like this after meeting guests at the properties after arrival. Our farm tour takes visitors around our local area showing them what is growing at that particular time. We are able to pick some produce (with permission) there is nothing better than fresh from the farm, if it is ripe for eating. Our tour also covers some very historic areas and it is special to be able to share this local history. Unfortunately we do not have cattle at the moment due to prolonged drought conditions, so we cannot stop to feed these however, there are some in paddocks nearby to see on the way.

15.01.2022 Four things you might not know about our team! 1. Patti is a musician and taught piano privately for many years. 2. Tim was a nurse before becoming a farmer 3. Patti has lived here all her life except for a time where she moved away to meet Tim 4. Tim originally came from the Scenic Rim Boonah, where he lived on a cattle property.

15.01.2022 If you’ve looked through our website, you may have noticed a package called ‘Enhance your stay’. Since beginning our business, we have offered breakfast, BBQ packs plus some other special ‘romantic’ packs, but after a trip to the UK a couple of years ago, we got the idea to add some other packages to our usual offerings and give it a name. We now offer a welcome pack, some different breakfast options plus some Romance, luxury and additional items. Why not book for your stay and add some special extras to it. #breakfast #bnb #farmstay #countryhospitality https://www.stocktonrise.com.au/packages/

14.01.2022 Can you imagine being in the country - smelling fresh hay, seeing fields of green leaf, hearing soft mooing of the cows, rolling country hills? If you are in need of this then come for a visit. Sitting back taking in the open vista before you while enjoying an end of day wine in the hand all with the fullstop of the day’s sunset. #countrylife #sunsets #lockyervalley #farmstay #holiday

14.01.2022 Have you ever done something on your holiday you never thought you would ever do? Here in the Lockyer Valley we don’t have the adventure experiences of NZ or some of the outback places of Australia, but have you ever taken the time to look up and enjoy the star show on offer? Or driven country roads where there are very few homes and very narrow tracks? On a short break here you can take the time to consider how our ancestors lived in the past while driving on some of these gravel roads. Ask Patti about a guided drive tour on some of these roads into the hills and vales of the Lockyer Valley. #lockyervalleytouring #countryroad #historicdrives #countrylife #farmstay

13.01.2022 This week, besides our usual special visitors, we have had some new visitors to our garden. Tim has been doing some work on our paved entertainment area and has brought in some brickies sand to make some concrete edges. Our new visitors have enjoyed this nice fine sand and have built some nesting holes in it. So, unfortunately, the paving has had to wait for now. Our little pardalote family has been a joy to watch and we’ve waited patiently for them to decide to move into the new nesting boxes Tim made for them. That is yet to happen! #birdlife #pardalote #twitchers #birdwatching #countryholiday #farmlife #lockyervalley

13.01.2022 Some random facts about Stockton Rise Country Retreat and nearby you might enjoy: . Our business is named after my Great Grandfather’s property which was named after the beach where he was shipwrecked coming from the UK around 1850. . Our retreat is on the old Cob & Co route to Toowoomba . the old Cob & Co bridge is still in place (although dilapidated) . Forest Hill is named from a property nearby which was called Forest Hill... . Forest Hill was the largest centre in the Lockyer Valley in the early days. It was known for it’s produce. #heritage #countrylife #lockyervalley #southernqldcountry #thisisqueensland #ForestHill See more

11.01.2022 Here is some work by a local Lockyer photographer. We feel very honoured to have one of Craig's pieces on display in Stockton Rise and we also have his calendars available for purchase if you are staying. Let us know if you'd like to buy one.

08.01.2022 We recently had guests stay here who were doing a holiday in the regional country areas surrounding Brisbane. We were delighted that they chose to stay here as well as the Sunshine Coast and hinterland, Bunya Mountains, then the Southern Downs area (Warwick and Stanthorpe), Scenic Rim then home again. Have you considered this as a possible holiday? There would be no long travel days, and with two nights at least in each place, a great deal of time to really discover each place and beautiful scenic spots along the way. I’m happy to help you plan your stay if you are unsure. #lockyervalley #SQCountry @SouthernQueenslandCountry #countryliving #farmstay #countryholiday #countryitinerary

08.01.2022 If you have not been to the Lockyer Valley, you may be surprised by the sheer size of the area. It also encompasses many small towns which all have special reasons for visiting. Normally there are many events throughout the year and hopefully these will be in full swing again next year. Check out the website https://www.luvyalockyer.com.au/how-/local-town-information for more information on these towns and villages and look further for inspiration for a visit to our special area. #lockyervalley #countrylife #countryholiday #southernqueenslandtourism #farmstay #countryroads

08.01.2022 For those of you who have stayed in the Lockyer Valley, can you share with us somewhere in our region that you found special? Today we visited @justgeraniums, a garden in our area that had some historic memories for my father and stepmother, knowing the original family who owned the property. This garden was high on a hill overlooking hills and valleys and it took us on a very windy, hilly road to get there, passing cows feeding on the open road, and taking us back to some memories of roads in the UK where you have to reverse when coming in contact with another vehicle. All in all a wonderful garden and somewhere I can recommend to future guests. #lockyervalley #hillyroads #opengarden #geraniums #justgeraniums

07.01.2022 If you enjoy bush walking or just getting out into nature, one of our special places in the Lockyer Valley is Glen Rock National Park. This park was originally a farm which the national parks took over some years ago. You will find you will be driving through the farm with cattle surrounding you and driving over grids to get to the end location which is a beautiful camping grounds and separate day use picnic area. In wetter times, the creek will be running and there are spots to stop and enjoy the trickling water. To walk to Glen Rock itself is quite special with some fantastic views and outlooks from the rock itself, or you can take the path to the lookout to see the rock from there, or explore further up the valley on foot, bike or horseback. #glenrocknationalpark #nationalparks #thisisqueensland #lockyervalley #bushwalking #hiking

06.01.2022 As you may know, we have lots of old Australiana pieces on display around Stockton Rise and in the old hay shed. Patti’s father has given a historic perspective on farming practices and a small booklet has been put together from his story. This is in the compendium at Stockton so for the history buffs, it gives a wonderful insight into the use and purpose of the pieces of machinery. One very special piece is the hay press which a great description of how it was used is written. #australiana #museum #countryliving #history #historicmachinery #lockyervalley #thisisqueensland

06.01.2022 It's always special to receive reviews such as this in our guest books. These guests stayed in Glencoe Cottage, which we agree is a gem. Both of our houses are very comfortable and offer complete privacy and comfort for our guests. Feel free to give us a call to work out your next holiday.

06.01.2022 It’s so easy to come for a holiday to the Lockyer Valley. It’s so close to Brisbane and the Gold and Sunshine Coast as well as being an easy drive from Toowoomba or the west. Our proximity makes it a great base for a touring holiday if you’re coming from interstate, you can easily visit Brisbane, Toowoomba, the Scenic Rim and be home for dinner after a great day out. Check out our local luvyalockyer.com.au to see what to do at any time of year. Don’t forget to book your accommodation with us for somewhere relaxing to stay. #countryholiday #farmstay #lockyervalley #getaway

05.01.2022 We have a new permanent visitor in the garden at Stockton Rise. Tim has been very creative while being a farmer in drought and has been coming up with some garden ornaments. I don’t think this one will hop away so we can enjoy a large kangaroo in the garden without any problems.

04.01.2022 Question: If you could wave a magic wand and change one thing in your business to make it even better for your guests, what would it be? Answer: Well, wouldn’t we like to have green grass with plenty of water in dams to keep gardens watered and creeks flowing. Our area would look like the Garden of Eden. I wrote this last week and after some rain over the weekend, we are beginning to see the green grass pop up and some small amounts in dams. Not enough to swim yet, but hopefully with some more summer rain this will be a reality. It really does not take much to green up again and our area will be looking like that garden in no time! We would love to share this with you so when you’re planning your staycation, come and visit. #lockyervalley #SQCountry @SouthernQueenslandCountry #countryliving #farmstay #countryholiday

01.01.2022 2020 has been a challenging year for us all. We can be so thankful to live in Australia where we have our health and good control over the virus and have had good governmental support from both Federal and State. Even though we all have our opinions on what should or shouldn’t be done and what they should be doing, I’m sure we have all found that we have achieved different things while in isolation. We had to hibernate our business for 3 months and in that time did lots of maintenance, cleaning and fixing little things that we never usually get time to do. For us, drought is still our biggest problem and with the dry weather, we are finding our old outbuildings are not faring too well with the weather. More maintenance continues to be needed and Tim the Mr Fixit continues to have lots to do.

01.01.2022 Think back to a holiday or experience you have had that you wish all your friends could also enjoy or visit? Take us to that place .. What made it special for you?
