25.01.2022 These two fillies in training are LOVING their new training yards with walk in stables. Perfect timing for the rainy weather Thanks @drover.made for building such amazing stables and @tyelinkins for the incrediblely perfect fencing.

24.01.2022 Beautiful words from Bec, who reached out to us to assist her with finding her heart horse, and to guide her with training and learning. "I am a complete novice with horses. Never owned one, ridden a handful of times only. When I approached Elise from Stokers Ridge Ranch and said I want to adopt a wild brumby and learn horsemanship and be involved in training that brumby from day one. I was answered with a big smile and an of course. From helping me to find my dream brumby..., assessing it via video for me, and offering advice every step of the way, to welcoming him to the ranch and starting with our dream, Elise has been beyond amazing. I’m sure there were and still are many times she would like to roll her eyes and sigh out loud, however she always treats me with kindness and greets me with a smile. In fact each team member on the ranch has made me feel so incredibly welcome, I have a very strong feeling of belonging when ever I’m there. Elise is training my boy Clancy in the exact way I was hoping. After searching for an extended period of time for this approach in our area I am so overjoyed. She is calm, gentle and caring while also being firm and incredibly knowledgeable in understanding my horse. Clancy has come so far in such a short time, it really is amazing to witness. I have learned so much myself and am feeling more confident every day. I am excited for my future with my beautiful boy and continuing our journey of growing, learning and loving. My heart is full and my soul is singing.... And for this I will be eternally grateful to Elise and the Stoker Ridge Ranch Team. I certainly recommend Stokers Ridge Ranch, Elise and the team for everything horse related. Whether it be horse training, riding tuition, horsemanship lessons or horse agissement and care. They are simply the best." Rebecca Aubert #guyfawkes #brumby #wildhorse #horsetraining #palomino

20.01.2022 Thankyou for inviting us to share our knowledge with you guys! A great day looking at safe leading, lunging correctly and how to use our position to influence our horses movement.

19.01.2022 In the words of Nuno, it is the horse who reserves the right to pass judgement on us. If we ride with tension, body and mind, we will be shown this through our horse's movements and emotions. If we ride with softness and grace, body and mind, we will be shown this through our horse's movements and emotions.... All too often the tense, anxious horse is rewarded in the show ring. This is not the way forward. Forget the judgement of humans and focus on how did my horse feel? What is he telling me to improve on? That's where you'll get an honest answer. #dressagerider #equinebiomechanics #riderbiomechanics #horsetraining #showhorse #equinebehaviours #competitions #mindset

17.01.2022 We have been so blessed to be able to use one of our wonderful agistees Makka as a school horse here at the Ranch. He is such a gorgeous soul, and always so kind and patient. Makka's owner has decided to give him a well deserved break Unfortunately this means that we will no longer be offering lessons on school horses. Thankyou to @hazzypazy for loaning us your beautiful boy.

13.01.2022 A great riding tip... eyes up... focus forward

10.01.2022 Wind Back Wednesday to when Elise presented in the First Do No Harm global summit. Halter education is an amazing opportunity to create the mental and muscle defaults that we need to develop horses that are calm and move correctly. Layering their foundation insures that our horses understand what we are are asking and have the ability to offer willingness and softness with out force. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtUehALWbMY&t=3s

08.01.2022 Long and low is so useful to help a horse lengthen their neck and lift their back. However just watch the weight distribution of fore and hind. Done well, it should not put the horse on the forehand.

08.01.2022 This is a great description of the flight responses that so frequently occur while lunging, especially if done incorrectly and if the horse is not ready to lunge, mentally and physically. It is important to assess each horse as an individual and tailor their session accordingly. This picture has been used to demonstrate how the horse becomes tense, braced, pivots at the bit and is twisting his spine with a counter flexed bend when in a flight response while lunging.

06.01.2022 Please feed by weight, not volume. Horses are designed to feed little and lots, they are grazing animals. We like to keep the total DRY WEIGHT to under 1.5kg a feed and use hay where possible to create the bulk fibre and energy of the feed.

06.01.2022 What's your horse's tail saying?
