16.01.2022 The idea that the Earth’s healing and our own healing are separate is a lie. We haven’t simply forgotten how to take care of soil under our feet, we’ve forgot...ten how to take care of the soil/soul of our bodies. This understanding has only come to me recently, and all of this years events have only made those understandings clearer. How can we heal ‘the land’ and ‘the soil’ without naming, addressing and healing the trauma that colonization has brought upon all of us, and especially our Black and Indigenous family members who have born the brunt of that trauma? How can you say that you are healing soil when you are not re-uniting her with her caretakers of many millenia, who form a great organ of her body? Why do you speak of topsoil loss as though it just started happening? Our topsoils were lost when the caregivers of this land were systematically and violently exterminated. We are losing mid- and bottom-soil now. The Regeneration we need isn’t limited to cover cropping and limiting tillage. Our regeneration and healing must be grounded in a recognition and consoling of past violence through the healing of present bodies. A recognition that we are one body, and that what we do to others, we do to ourselves. That this isn’t a world of ‘things’ and matter , but a world of beings and spirit. I’m so grateful to have worked with so many amazing people and organizations on this collaborative piece. The change we need to make is so deep, it’s hard to express in words, especially in English which gives us a paucity of words to express the deep mystery of this world.
