25.01.2022 Were back with Ginger and Helene...this time in the kitchen her at Stony Rise Cottage. They wanted to say thanks for their little trips so cooked us a lovely dinner of savoury triangles...yummy! Thanks girls...de-lecious! Or should I say Merci!!!

22.01.2022 Even though we had to say au revoir to Helene yesterday we are lucky that Ginger will be staying with us for a few months! Especially as she is a great cook...lucky us!!! Thank you Ginger!

21.01.2022 These are the first 9 of 29 solar panels being installed today in an effort to reduce horrendous energy bills.

21.01.2022 It’s been a very busy week here at Stony Rise Cottage, with people coming and going every day...so it’s particularly nice to have guests that stay with us for a few days. This was the case with Sef and Maggie from The Central Coast of NSW. They thoroughly enjoyed their holiday in Tassie before ending their adventure with 3 nights in our little B & B...and what a ride it must have been for this intrepid duo...I think the photos say it all! Thanks for sharing your holiday with us!

20.01.2022 We’re back with Ginger and Helene...this time in the kitchen her at Stony Rise Cottage. They wanted to say ‘thanks’ for their little trips so cooked us a lovely dinner of savoury triangles...yummy! Thanks girls...de-lecious! Or should I say ‘Merci’!!!

20.01.2022 Our terrific uni student guests enjoying breakfast.

17.01.2022 The wonderful start to our Christmas (38 new ducklings on our dam a few days ago) just gets better and better! Abby and her gorgeous group from Sydney Uni stayed with us, just for one night, but we all had heaps of fun...took heaps of photos and laughed...yep...heaps! Thanks guys...I think Sorcha enjoyed your stay at Stony Rise Cottage as much as Cliff and I did!... Merry Christmas

17.01.2022 One of our guests this weekend is just about to compete in the XC Tasmanian Championship. We wish you every success Richard especially as the conditions will be pretty wet, muddy and humid (if you happen to be on a mountain bike) up on Kelcey Tiers this afternoon. Cathy will, no doubt, be less warm as a spectator...sorry about the inclement weather in Devonport today to all the riders and supporters!... We, here at Stony Rise Cottage B & B (at the base of Kelcey Tiers) will be checking the Mersey Valley Devonport Cycling Club (event organisers)results page to see how our boy, Richard fared! We wish you all...Good luck and not too many spills.

17.01.2022 I guess it’s hi time we said, a somewhat, sad farewell to 2018! So, what better way to end a great year than with another 1st for us here at Stony Rise Cottage!!! Two lovely families came to stay with us, 6 in total, but the difference with this fun group was that arrived with caravans in tow...literally! Thanks to Donna and Mark, Sue and George and the boys for choosing to stay with us to kick off your adventures around Tassie...we wish you safe travels...drive through caravan sites and, of course, a very Happy New Year!

16.01.2022 I just can’t let this week go without mentioning Peter...an entomologist who stayed with us for a couple of days and shared his newest ‘bug’ with us! Lucille, named after the Lucila fly ( or to us mere mortals, the green bottle fly) is Peter’s new love...a drone! He kindly took a number of aerial shots of our property...some showing that if we just build up to 120 metres we would have views of Bass Straight! Over to you for that one Cliff! More recklessly, he handed over control of Lucille to us for awhile...what a buzz! (Sorry, I just couldn’t let that one pass ). Seriously though it was heaps of fun! Thank you Peter for trusting us with your new baby!

16.01.2022 Congratulations, Yan & Kidd, on your recent marriage! We are soo excited about your wedding and love the fact that you two are the first of our Taiwanese love bird couples to tie the knot. Thank you for sharing your time in Tasmania with us at Stony Rise Cottage Now...we know that Ginger & William will be married later this year in December...another beautiful match! But...come on Tony what are you doing with Sandy? You two are soo cute together!... Charlie and Peggy...where is my news update? We love and miss you all...especially me! See more

16.01.2022 Michelle and Nic arrived in Devonport on last nights Spirit of Tasmania, not too the worse for wear, from a pretty rough day sail. We are pleased that they chose to stay with us at Stony Rise Cottage for their first night and enjoy a hearty breakfast this morning, before setting off on their bicycles on the Devonport to Dover overland track! This promises to be an exciting, though arduous, journey and we wish them safe travels and great weather! Oh...and a very Happy Birthday to you Michelle on 15 November!

15.01.2022 This weekend, four of our guests competed in the Peaks Challenge Cradle Mountain bicycle ride! We are thrilled to report that 3 came in in under 10 hours, earning them a great cycling shirt...< 10 hours ride with the fourth rider not far behind. Stony Rise Cottage congratulates all who competed in this gruelling event, but especially our four! Well done Stuart, Callum, Jarrod and Steve. The photos below are of Jarrod and Callum (right to left) sporting their, well earned, finishers shirts.

15.01.2022 One, of many, advantages of being in the B and B business is the amazing amount of interesting people we get to meet. Everyone has something to add...something to bring to the breakfast table! Last week...an apiarist...who fascinated us with stories of life with his hives! This week a lovely lady, Terril, who breeds then sterilises fruit flys (no, not with tiny scalpels ) then sells them to Bio security, who drop them from aeroplanes and, voila, no baby fruit flies!!! Pr...etty cool eh? We were also visited by an adventurist couple, Eva and John, who rode their motorbike down the east coast of the big island, in the pouring rain for...wait for it...11 hours! One, dry, night with us and they continued on to Hobart, after a hearty breakfast of course, once again...in the pouring rain! We wish you, and all our guests from 2018, a very Happy Christmas, filled with light and love, and may 2019 be filled with all the wonders this amazing planet of ours has to offer! With love and hugs from all of us here at Stony Rise Cottage Bed and Breakfast. See more

13.01.2022 Enjoyed having Christine and Allen for afternoon tea here at our B&B.

13.01.2022 Not everything that happens at Stony Rise Cottage actually takes place on our property! Sometimes we take road trips!!! Like last Sunday...the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day...we took two of our guests, Ginger from Taiwan and Helene from Switzerland to visit Penguin; the town and its statues! The towns main penguin was suitably dressed for the occasion in his army clothes...very handsome!

12.01.2022 When it comes to Christmas Im a bit of a nut case! So, to get full value from hiding away all my Christmas friends in dark boxes for 10 and a half months ...I let them out early! I thought Id share, just a few, with you.

11.01.2022 Did you know that its apple season here at Stony Rise Cottage? Well it is and our tree has gone crazy this year with a bumper crop! Luckily we have not been bitten by the fruit fly invasion, so our, totally organic apples are amazing!

11.01.2022 The workers who did the resealing of our guest parking area and driveway extension enjoying mornings my tea in the main house.

10.01.2022 Wishing all our guests from 2017 a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR...may 2018 find you all back here at Stony Rise Cottage!

10.01.2022 Callum and Jarrod, two of our guests who completed the Peaks Challenge Cradle Mountain Bicycle Ride yesterday wearing their <10 hours finishers shirts.

09.01.2022 During 2018 we continued to ‘tweak’ Stony Rise Cottage and the beautiful grounds in which she sits! She, like many of us ‘old girls’, is worth every penny and drop of sweat we put into her on the journey to restore her to her glory days!..and there have been a few of those along the way! First built, by the Rundle family, circa 1885 was the elegant little farm house, where she sat, proudly for the next , or so, years! In 1988 she was given an amazing new lease of life with ...the addition of a beautiful, and very large, new wing! In 2005 another wing was added...this time an additional 3 bedroom, fully self contained house! We came into her life in 2015 named her Stony Rise Cottage, and, have been ‘tweaking’ her ever since...a labour of love which we will continue to do for as long as we have breath! We are thrilled to be able to share her with family, friends and many, many guests as she truly deserves all the oohs and ahrrs she gets every day! This leaves only one more thing to say...a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who stayed with us during 2018!..you have given us soo many warm fuzzies, laughs and great conversation! HAPPY NEW YEAR! See more

08.01.2022 Cottage is situated on 2.5 acres on the fringe of town.

08.01.2022 Another of our little excursions took us to Lillico, the home the 2nd largest Fairy Penguin colony on this wonderful island of Tasmania. It was a cold and windy evening but to see these little cuties in their natural environment was worth our frosty feet! Helen, our guest from Switzerland was staying with us for 3 nights and we just couldnt let her leave without seeing our feathered friends. Our daughter Melanie and granddaughter Ellie joined us for the outing. Luckily, Lillico is just a 10 minute drive from Stony Rise Cottage so our frosty feet soon warmed up!!!

07.01.2022 It was a sad day for us here at Stony Rise Cottage last Wednesday! Zoe and Awena, the last of our Taiwanese guests for the 2017/2018 season, left us after their 4 month stay! We miss them already but they have completed their 2 year visa and are heading home to Taiwan after a short holiday around Tasmania. We wish them, and all our previous kids , the very best for their futures. Love you guys...thanks for staying with us! Cliff and Fifi

05.01.2022 As my final post for 2018 was about two caravanning families I thought I should continue the ‘vehicle’ theme as my first post for 2019! Luckily for me, I was ably assisted in this endeavour by Greg who rolled up in his Antique Volkswagen Kombi Van! This 1958, left hand drive, little beauty started life in California, USofA and like many of us ‘old girls’ can be a bit cantankerous and heavy to handle! But, to a true old car enthusiast, like Greg...she’s more than worth it! (I wonder if Cliff feels the same about his ‘antiquated...oops I mean antique...girl?) Good luck and safe travels Greg around Tassie my friend!..and if you happen to see him around...give him a wave, he’s a pretty friendly guy!

04.01.2022 Warning!!! We had an explosion here at Stony Rise Cottage just 5 days ago! Yep...it was fantastic! We woke one morning to the wonderful sight of 38...yes...38 new ducklings on our dam! We were aware that four of our mother ducks were nesting on the property but had absolutely no idea that they would all hatch on the same day...nor that there would be soo many!... Our Christmas came early!

03.01.2022 Alistair, Lucille and Amy are visiting us from Victoria for a couple of days. Alistair works in the petrochemical industry on the BIG island! He tells us that the company imports propylene gas then converts that into propylene plastic in the shape of tiny balls. ... Some of these little plastic balls are then sold to another company who turn these balls into plastic sheets. This company on sells these sheets to our Mint in Canberra. They, in turn, produce our plastic currency or, Aussie bank notes! Surprisingly, for me anyway, is that our Mint also produce this plastic currency for 15 other countries! Thanks Alistair that’s pretty cool !!! PS: No free samples were given in the course of this chat...!
