20.05.2022 I've been enjoying the soul funk of Khruangbin. Great musicianship from this Texan trio. Reminds me of a bit of early Santana and Peter Green. Nice title on this 2015 offering as well. https://open.spotify.com/album/2OPcQNLP8DQVumD8kBRAH3
03.05.2022 Every week or so, for I don't know how long, I am going to share with you an album that I have been listening to. Some will be new releases, some will be old. Sometimes I will write something about it, sometimes I won't. The first album is the new release by Melbourne alternative rock band, Children Collide. My daughter introduced me to their music years ago, with their song "Farewell Rocket Ship", and I have liked them ever since. See what you reckon. https://open.spotify.com/album/560CH2vv8J0Pq5VcuJU8hI
16.04.2022 https://soundcloud.com//not-on-our-side-acou/s-J0mA7zmLbIg About twelve or so years ago I wrote a song called "Not On Our Side". You can here an acoustic demo version of via the soundcloud link above. The sentiment of the song is becoming more relevant as time goes by. As the old Psalmist cried out, "How long must we sing this song?" I was walking the beach alone at Blanket Bay, near Cape Otway, when the lyrics came to me as I was lamenting the destructive impact that us m...odern humans have had on the ecology of our planet. It is actually a minority of humans who have largely done this - those of us from wealth accumulating economies such as Australia. Everyone and every thing is suffering because of the activities of the relative few. I am a part of the few. The surest solution I can see is for us to radically renew our economy and culture, to rapidly move away from fossil fuels and to change what we think it means to live a good life (particularly in terms of what we produce and consume). I wrote the song also because I was pissed off with the ideology of perpetual economic growth. I was pissed off at our politicians turning away from the important decisions that have needed to be made for decades in the face of colossal crisis and actually, actively making decisions to amplify and speed up the crisis. There is no Planet B. It is time to act for the good of all life. Please read the article about the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
31.03.2022 Hi there Today I will be playing these instruments at the Warrnambool Community Gardens Market, at 4:15pm. The three stringed black instrument is called a RalBar (www.facebook.com/ralbar.guitars/). It was designed by a man called Brian Dyskin whom I met earlier this year when he was travelling with an old friend of mine. It is in an open tuning and has some frets missing. Brian designed it this way so that beginners could easily play in key and join in with other musicians. H...e thought it would also be good for people with limited hand ability which is why he generously handed this instrument to me, as playing the guitar is still tricky with my injured hand. Whenever I pick up a different instrument I tend to create tunes. It's like I am being lead by the instrument as each instrument has it's own feel. Also known as the vibe, which is a common pattern in life. Anyway, today I am going to play a few of these tunes on the RalBar, as well as some old songs I have adapted to it. I will also play a couple of lapsteel songs. After my set I shall be accompanying Bruce Campbell with my lapsteel. It would be nice to see you there if you can make it. The gardens are a beautiful place to hang out in and to purchase excellent fresh food and prepared food. Cheers, Owen.
