24.01.2022 Congratulations to Trevor, the winner of the SMIDSY and JUST BIKES Just Bikes bike build competition. He’s WON this restored BMW Café Racer K100LT! Trevor had a creative idea around lane filtering, an issue that we all know is widely misunderstood by drivers and frustratingly inconsistent across states. He suggested forward stop lines at intersections, similar to that of a bicycle lane. We agree this would be a great way to help with vehicle positioning and driver awareness. ...We also like that Trevor encourage riders to give a quick wave or nod when a drivers makes room for you to get through. Thanks again to everyone that entered, we’ve loved reading all of your ideas. We will share some of our favourites in the coming weeks.

22.01.2022 Here are some of the stand-out ideas to improve motorcyclist safety, fresh out of our SMIDSY bike build comp with JUST BIKES that we didn’t want to just leave in our comments section. Which one is your favourite?

17.01.2022 Tis the season to take extra care on our Australian roads when road trippin’ across the country, like Stop SMIDSY advocate and photographer @jimrobinsonphoto All he wants this Christmas is 2 weeks off, a full tank and a 1000km of Tassie roads to discover in safety.... If you're planning on similar shenanigans, over the holidays, stay upright by wearing the right gear and being alert to your surroundings! Tag an adventurous mate below who needs to hear this message too.

15.01.2022 Stephen fell off his motorbike and broke multiple bones when his front wheel slipped on an area of soft bitumen. Unfortunately this story is all too common for riders. So what are the rules around poor road surfaces? Who is responsible for reporting them and what can you do if you come across one?

15.01.2022 Our friends at The Helmet Doctors are doing some research about a new laser scanning technology they've developed that helps riders check their helmets for defects or deformations. The technology, which reads/registers/records your helmet's condition, is designed to keep riders safe. If you have a few minutes, please help out by taking this short 10-question survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GGZSB6V

09.01.2022 "Our lives were taken along with Jayden’s on that day in May 2017. Our beautiful 22-year-old boy went to work as he did each morning. On his way home, he was hit by a driver who had crossed in front of him. He was thrown from his motorbike and killed in an instant. Words cannot describe the shock, numbness and disbelief in that moment." This #RoadSafetyWeek we remember those affected by road trauma and encourage all road users to take care and keep our roads safe. #shinealightonroadsafety

06.01.2022 It may not be illegal to ride in shorts and thongs and you may not have caused the crash, but if you contributed to your injures by not wearing proper protective gear, your damages may be reduced." Maurice Blackburn lawyer Katie Minogue discusses how courts view contributory negligence in motorcycle accidents.

06.01.2022 Case update: on Friday we received notice that Ted’s infringement notice for his ‘missing’ helmet sticker has been withdrawn by Victoria Police. Ted's lawyer, Katie Minogue, says We maintain that your helmet has to have an official standards notice somewhere on it to make it legal, but the law doesn’t say that it has to be on the outside of your helmet. If your helmet has an internal compliance label, we say that this is sufficient. Maurice Blackburn were pleased to be able to represent Ted and we hope to see less of these type of baseless infringements being issued against motorcyclists!

06.01.2022 Did you know that this time of the year is the most dangerous times to be on the road? All we want for Christmas is for people to be extra cautious when out and about over the holidays. SMIDSY advocate and globe trotter Tacbike also wants everyone to stay safe this year so we can come back to our loved ones. He says that whilst Christmas is a great time to go for a Summer ride by the sea it is also one of the deadliest times in the year on Australian roads. As motorcycli...sts we are 30 times more likely to be killed in a road crash than those travelling by car. I’d like to remind everyone to take a little extra effort to look out on the roads and ride safely over the holidays so we all get back to our loved ones. Merry Christmas all! Tag a loved one below who you want to share this message with.

04.01.2022 Motorcyclists make up less than 5% of road users, but account for almost 20% of Qld road deaths. In addition to calling for motorists to double check blind spots to check for riders, RACQ has suggested that riders think about taking refresher training, which we think is a great idea to keep skills sharp. What do you do to keep your riding skills fresh?

04.01.2022 Helmet laws have undergone drastic changes the past couple of years and this understandably has led to significant confusion amongst the motorcycle community. With many riders cruising across state lines, you should be prepared for what is legal in each state so you don’t cop any unnecessary fines.

03.01.2022 With 232 motorcycles being stolen from within the Brisbane area alone between 2012 and 2017, the Queensland Police Service and RACQ have launched the Stop Stolen Motorcycles initiative. They will be creating educational campaigns and encouraging the community to flag suspicious behaviour. What’s your best tip for increasing motorcycle security?

01.01.2022 Are people counting on you to stay safe over summer when you're out on the road adventuring like SMIDSY advocate and adventurer @katieabdilla? All she wants over the holidays is for her "moto fam to stay alert and stay alive when out riding during this season". She'll be going on a road trip to Tassie and making sure that she isn't distracted by the beautiful surroundings to stay focussed on the road.... If you're out and about over the holidays, make sure that take extra care with the right safety gear and take an extra look.
