25.01.2022 People often ask why I fight against the system so hard for the safety of CMWs even if I’m fighting with the very people I’m trying to protect. Simple. I would much rather you hate on me and be alive than love me and be dead. Culture change isn’t easy. Learning lessons without blood should be applauded. Not discouraged. ... What risk are you accepting in your workplace to avoid conflict??

23.01.2022 People are asking what is STORM Mining? Its the start of a journey to rebuild the mining industry culture. Our lessons are getting lost in the paperwork. People are fearing discipline more than the consequence of breaking a golden rule. Our new starters have a heap of rules to follow with no context as to why. Just do it or we will sack you is common. Safety, Training, Operations, Recruitment, Management is what the letters stand for. That's the order we start when trying to fix a team or a culture. I know if we fix the management first everyone should follow their lead, but the truth is you need to immerse yourself in the culture at the coal face. Listen to the workers words and then plan backwards to the top.

23.01.2022 Q TIME What’s the three best qualities you look for in an employee/employer?

21.01.2022 And the winners are........

17.01.2022 Consider today what we are really sacrificing for a so called war with a virus compared to those sacrifices made by our countries heroes that gave us the freedom to be here in the first place. RIP grandpop

15.01.2022 Excuse the dirty goatee. Just having fun while in lock down. Haha

14.01.2022 Although I have four daughters and never want them to get a job just because they’re female. I do support the change of thinking required to make equality a reality.

07.01.2022 Jesus it is hard to read the negativity online. Why has it become so empowering to talk like a douche over the net. But not speak a word to people face to face. In my management role my rule is only speak to coworkers like you would if you were in the Coles car park. If your willing to make your point passionately about the way someone parked there car and possiblly cop a slap up the side of the head for it. Then it’s worth saying. But don’t do it from behind a computer or abuse your role at work. That’s weak.

06.01.2022 Not all miners are lazy Not all Muslims are terrorists Not all bikers are drug sellers Not all priests and pedos Not all cops are racists... But it’s up to those groups to weed out the wrong doers in their team and make it known that they aren’t welcome and remove them long before the public has to intervene. Tend your own flock and spread some love. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

05.01.2022 Mental health check in. My favorite saying atm to the awesome team I work with is I cant be upset with how i look or think. I didn’t build me. If I did I would of done a much better job Point is people beat themselves up all day long because of the fake happiness they see on social media. The bs quick fix adds that pepper your mind with possible fixes for every problem. Yeah it pisses me off as a control freak that I can’t even sort my own thoughts and body but from my fe...w years in management I know that everyone has there issues. Everyone has a different breaking point. Everyone needs help from time to time. Some even more. Get ya mates talking. Dig a little deeper. I can’t seem to fix me but I can help them. Maybe that’s how it works. The left arm scratches the right for a reason and doesn’t make me think the right is weak or useless. It just needs help sometimes. Who will you help?? Like or Share to keep this moving if you agree please.

03.01.2022 Are you sure your business is compliant? Don’t find out on the day of a work place accident or incident? A manitou at a typical BMA site for example needs a:... Yearly mobile vehicle inspection Yearly NDT 3 monthly brake test 3 monthly lifting and slinging Compliance to the Rim register And more Driving one needs about 15 sops. A generic mobile. An rii forklift cert. A site assessment. A high risk mobile crane license if you want to use the jib. A lifting and slinging cert as a prereq. All this needs to be captured in a contractor management document and kept up to date with every moment of manning and equipment on and off site. Sound fun? It is and at STORM mining it is what we love to do. Help businesses of all sizes get as close to compliant as possible to provide an umbrella for the day it rains on you. An old boss of mine said to finish all excuses with your honour and see how it will sound in court.
