24.01.2022 What a sad image!

23.01.2022 Mittagong Supercell (18.2.2020) One of the most amazing displays of anvil lightning I have ever seen in Wollongong with a few really nice bolts to boot. Missed the best action (and some close bolts) when I made a move a little too far north, but it will still lovely to watch!

19.01.2022 The southerly change has moved though Narooma, with gusts of up to 80km/hr. The change will move further up the coast over the coming hours with similar speeds.... This will push several of the large fires burning on the South Coast in a northerly direction. People in affected areas should monitor the changing conditions and be prepared for the threat of fire.

18.01.2022 A couple of shots of the lovely little mid-level roll cloud that sat over the Illawarra on a wind boundary for a couple of hours this afternoon. No storms, no rain, just a weak upper trough and a mid-level wind boundary, And then to top it off, some anti-crepuscular rays on sunset! ... These rays (usually seen in the direction of the sun, i.e. crepuscular rays) resulted from the sun briefly bursting through a gap in the upper cloud deck south of Orange, refracting light across the upper cloud deck all the way to the eastern horizon. A fairly rare phenomena. Amazing day for weather in the Illawarra!! <3

16.01.2022 Fire Spread Prediction for Saturday 4 January 2020 There are a number of dangerous fires burning in the Shoalhaven, South Coast, Snowy Mountains and areas surro...unding Greater Sydney. Severe to Extreme fire danger is forecast for these areas tomorrow with temperatures in the 40’s, very low humidity and strong winds. A south-westerly change will impact inland fires tomorrow afternoon and evening, and a gusty southerly change will impact coastal fires from late tomorrow afternoon, reaching Sydney around midnight. These conditions will make fire behaviour erratic and very dangerous. This map displays the predicted fire spread and the communities that may come under threat from embers or fire fronts. Other surrounding areas may still come under threat if conditions change, or if fires breach containment lines. There are concerns for the areas of: - The Shoalhaven Region from Burrill Lake, north to Nowra - The South Coast from Batemans Bay to the Victorian Border - The Snowy Valley area from Tarcutta to Tumut in the north, south through Batlow and Tumbarumba to Khancoban and Jingellic - Snowy Monaro region from Adaminaby to Cooma, then south-west to Jindabyne, Perisher Valley and Thredbo. This includes all of the Kosciuszko National Park. - Areas surrounding Greater Sydney Southern Highlands, parts of Western Sydney and the Lower Blue Mountains There may potentially be new fires burning in these areas that we do not yet know about, which may threaten you without warning. Potential spread area - you should not be in this area on Saturday. Move to a large town outside this area, or if you are on the South Coast, move to an area that has already been burnt or go to the beach. Stay away from bush fire prone areas. Potential ember attack You should not be in this area on Saturday as new fires could start and spread quickly. If you are in the area of the general areas on this map, be vigilant for new fires that may start well ahead of the fire front.

14.01.2022 **IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE RFS** Please DO NOT Take This Message Lightly. Saturday has the potential to be a very volatile and dangerous situation for the South Coast. Plan for this weather, leave the affected zone tomorrow if safe to do so. Please help ease the burden on our stretched Emergency Services.... It's not just about removing yourself from a fire effected/potential impact zone for safety either . . . . potentially hundreds are without a home and the holiday rental / hotel rooms you are in could be used to assist displaced people. If you can, get out of the Far South, South and Shoalhaven coast before Saturday. Don't be another addition to the increasing death toll. Things can be replaced, lives can not!

13.01.2022 Watch and Act - Currowan (Shoalhaven LGA) Strong northwesterly winds will push fire towards the coast today, followed by a strong southerly change that will see... fires move in a northerly direction. An inversion that settled across the fireground this morning is now lifting and fire activity is increasing.

11.01.2022 EMERGENCY WARNING - Morton Fire (Wingecarribee LGA). Conditions are increasing on the fireground. Residents in Penrose and Riverview Rd at Bundanoon should seek shelter as fire approaches. It is too late to leave. Protect yourself from the heat of the fire.
