25.01.2022 Today is R U OK? Day. R U OK? is a not for profit organisation founded in 2009 with a vision of a world where we are all connected and are protected from suicide, as well as encouraging and equipping everyone to regularly and meaningfully ask are you ok?. At Story House Early Learning, we continue to work with our services to focus on promoting and supporting kindness, mental health and wellbeing for everyone within our Story House Family and beyond so please take the opportunity to check in with and look after someone. If you have a nagging feeling that someone you know or care about isn’t behaving as they normally would, trust your instinct and act on it. #ruok #mentalhealth #beyondblue
23.01.2022 This week we look to place the spotlight on National Child Protection Week, with the theme. "Putting children first". NAPCAN - Play Your Part invite all Australians to look at how they can prioritise children in their lives and communities and to engage in National Child Protection Week as individuals, and as part of families, organisations, communities and society. Putting children first means prioritising the safety and wellbeing of children. To grow up well children need to feel safe and loved, have a chance to play and explore, have a say in decisions that affect them, and access to essential things like food, shelter and healthcare. #childrights #childprotection

20.01.2022 It has warmed my heart to see all the beautiful experiences happening at #StoryHouse Alexandria to celebrate #NAIDOC week this year. This years theme is Always Was, Always Will Be, shining a light on the length of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s occupation in Australia. We have been exploring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge and culture through: - Discussions... - Art such as drawing, painting and collage - Investigating use of symbolism - Listening to and dancing to music by Indigenous artists - Trying different practices such as having a yarning circle and using tapping sticks This week children have continued to develop their respect for diversity and further deeper their understanding of Indigenous perspectives. Further information and resources are available awww.naidoc.org.au

18.01.2022 The day you send your little ones to ‘big’ school is a HUGE deal for any parent. How do you know if they’re ready? Will they cope with the rigours of full-time formal schooling? How soon should you start preparing them? How can you make it easier on them and you?... In this special masterclass, parenting educators Maggie Dent and Dr Kaylene Henderson come together to equip parents with some essential tools in getting their kids ready to start school and to do well when they get there. http://ow.ly/q6Iz50BKsuk
18.01.2022 What a fun week we had, celebrating #Halloween. The #costumes coming from home helped to develop the children’s sense of #belonging as they were able to share a part of their home life and interests with their class. The costumes also sparked lots of conversations and imaginative play throughout the week. The experiences set up by educators harnessed the children’s creativity in a variety of ways. Platypus one painted spiders, spider webs and a pumpkin head box. Platypus t...wo made Halloween cookies, paper plate spiders and pumpkins and had a dress up dance party. Koala’s used their photos to make mummies and used cotton tips to make skeletons. Kangaroos made skeletons using vegetables, a cardboard skeleton and pumpkin scones. Lizards made paper plate monsters, balloon ghosts and had dress up dance parties with glow sticks! It was also amazing to see the foyer come alive through the collaboration of the children and educators working together to decorate it.
17.01.2022 This week we investigated and celebrated the festival of lights, Diwali. We were so lucky to have one of our Koala parents read a story about #Diwali via #zoom to help us learn all about it. The lizard room also used sand and glitter to make some beautiful #rangolis. Don't they look stunning? #EYLF #childcare #storyhouse

14.01.2022 My name is Katie Allsopp, I am 28 years old and I live on the Northern Beaches. I am the eldest of 5 girls, and from a young age I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. I started babysitting at 14, moving on to nannying jobs and swim teaching for children with special needs while I was finishing my university degree. I finished my Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) in 2013, beginning work for an agency as an Early Childhood Educator for children of all ages ...from babies up to kindergarten, I did this for 3 years. This led me to a full time role as a Kindergarten Teacher in a Childcare centre in Melbourne. I stayed in the kindergarten role for two years, before deciding to move to London to work in Primary Schools at the beginning of 2019. Due to Covid I had to return to Australia this year, but I am so glad I did as I have landed my dream job of working with the babies. I have a passion for the education of children and believe this education begins from the day they are born. I am so excited to work with families to help your children become confident, happy, resilient and curious lifelong learners. See more

05.01.2022 Extending on the children’s individual interests in our preschool room has been so exciting for these children as they use their imagination skills to play and explore. Today our excited zoo keepers created a wonderful wildlife zoo using resources they found around the 3-5 classrooms. They used such things as wooden blocks, bricks, animals, natural materials, box packaging, coloured paper and much much more! ... How great does their enclosures look!
04.01.2022 From the 19th to the 24th of October we celebrated #bookweek at #StoryHouse Alexandria. We tried something a little different this year and invited our parents to read a stories to the children via #ZOOM. We were very appreciative of all the parents who volunteered their time, the children loved listening to stories on a laptop in their classroom! Throughout the week we celebrated in a variety of other ways. Some children brought in their favourite #books to share, others dressed up as characters from stories, some showed and read books to their friends and some children even made bookmarks and created books with their drawings.
