20.01.2022 (-English) Saint Justina who was from Damascus, lived in virginity for the sake of Christ. Saint Cyprian, who was from Antioch, began as an initiate of ...magic and worshipper of the demons. A certain foolish young man who had been smitten with Justina's beauty hired Cyprian to draw her to love him; when Cyprian had wed every demonic device he knew, and had failed, being repulsed by the power of Christ Whom Justina invoked, he understood the weakness of the demons and came to know the truth. Delivered from demonic delusion, he came to Christ and burned all his books of magic, was baptized, and later ascended the episcopal throne in his country. Later, he and Justina were arrested by the Count of Damascus, and having endured many torments at his hands, they were sent finally to Diocletian in Nicomedia, where they were beheaded about the year 304. , , . 18.01.2022 About our live streaming: Dear friends, No doubt this has been a very different year for all of us. In one way or another all of our lives, whether at work, school or personal have changed, in some aspects in a negative way in others in a very positive way. Amongst this, it has pushed the church to explore different ways of reaching you all during these troubled times, most evidently through our livestream. In the beginning there was a lot of uncertainty, now we see how th...is has helped people from all ages and backgrounds come together. We don't know how long this will go for, nonetheless seeing the spiritual help it has offered many people we wanted to have something installed as more permanent, which will help in the future cater to the spiritual needs for those unable to attend the services but wish to be there. It has been such a pleasant surprise seeing children and grandchildren of elderly people help set up the internet and guide the elderly on how to access the services online. Now not only the young but old can feel close to their church and parish through these means. It would be difficult for me to take that away from them now that they have access to it and have learnt to use this technology, even when the churches do re-open. I know how hard it is for them to come to church and how much they want to be there. Apart from that, it has helped others, pregnant, sick and suffering to have this comfort. Therefore after much thought we would like to install something permanent, but as you can imagine, with the churches closure for so long we do not have the financial comfort to support this. If you have found this to be helpful to you or your loved ones, please consider helping us improve our technology by offering a donation to the bank details below. Thank you for your constant love and support, God bless you always, fr D. Church bank details NAB - Bsb 083437 Acc 606931504. Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia Parish of StAlbans & Districts.

16.01.2022 My dear friends, Tomorrow our Holy Church begins the 40 day fast leading to the joyous and majestic feast of the Birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. The fast for Christmas is a preparation of Christ's birth in the small and humble "cave" of our hearts. The Church reminds us during this fast that our heart is a Kingdom and that it must be prepared to receive the King. So once again we clean our souls of its passions and sins. ... We perform acts of charity, because our Father is plentiful in giving and Merciful to all. We fall down in prayer and repentance knowing that we have fallen short of God's image. We fast and abstain as a confession to Christ that nothing of this world is enough to fill and satisfy us, that food is for the stomach, but the food that Christ gives us is for the eternal soul. We confess our sins to take out everything evil and dark within us to prepare to receive everything which is Holy is full of Light. We receive the blessed sacrament of the Eucharist, the most precious Body and Blood of our Lord, which is "Life Eternal". This is how we become the "Bethlehem" to receive Christ the Lord and King of our life. Blessed fast my dear sisters and brothers. Looking forward to travelling with you on our journey to the spiritual Bethlehem to meet and worship Him who all creation Glorifies. In Christ, fr D. * during this fast the Church allows us to consume fish and oil except Wednesday's and Friday's up until the 17th of December.

12.01.2022 Announcement from the Archdiocesan Council of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia The Archdiocesan Council of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia met yesterday, 29...th September 2020, in Sydney, under the Presidency of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and dealt with the issues on the agenda. After extensive deliberations, the members of the Archdiocesan Council unanimously resolved upon and hereby announce the following: 1. Firstly, we praise the Triune God and express our gratitude and our deepest respect to His All-Holiness our Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the Mother Church for the election of our new Archbishop of Australia, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios. Moreover, we were moved to learn that His Eminence has been invited to be a member of the Holy and Sacred Synod, a first in the history of our local Church. 2. It is a fact that within a year, our new Shepherd, despite the adversities of the devastating fires and the COVID-19 pandemic, has proven to be a dynamic presence throughout the entire continent. We are aligned with, and fully embrace, the vision of our new Archbishop, which is based on unity and love, so that, together, we may make the Archdiocese of Australia a more formidable force in Australian society. Within this spirit of unity and reconciliation, we thank our Ecumenical Patriarchate for the restoration of His Grace Bishop Paul of Christianoupolis and the priests, Fr George Athanasiadis and Fr Christodoulos Vassilaris, who are now members of the clergy of the Archdiocese of Australia. 3. We also express our deep gratitude to our Ecumenical Patriarch and our Archbishop for the election of our new and worthy Bishop Emilianos of Meloa, Bishop Elpidios of Kyaneon and Bishop Silouan of Sinope, who have already assumed executive positions within the Holy Archdiocese, and we consider the creation by His Eminence of separate Archdiocesan Districts in Perth, Northcote and Canberra to be beneficial in effectively dealing with the administrative and spiritual issues in those areas. 4. We gladly accept our Archbishop’s proposal for the regular convening of the Archdiocesan Council, as defined by the Special Regulations of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia. It should be noted that today’s convening of the Archdiocesan Council was set during the meeting of the Bishops of our Archdiocese on 7th August of this year; the previous sittings of the Archdiocesan Council had met were in 2015 and in 2012. 5. The Clergy-Laity Conference of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia was due to take place next January. However, due to the restrictions of the pandemic, the local authorities have advised us to postpone its convocation. We therefore decided to reschedule the commencement of the event to 30th May 2021, as long as we are free from the restrictions of the pandemic. The theme of the Clergy-Laity Conference will be For Faith and Nation. Also, the National Youth Conference will begin on 24th September 2021. For these two major events, the Archdiocesan Council will convene again soon and relevant details will be announced in due course. 6. In a spirit of unity, a National Committee was established by His Eminence to celebrate the Bicentenary of the beginning of the Greek Revolution (1821-2021). The National Committee is working with great fervour and a rich program of events for the whole country will soon be announced. The Archdiocesan Council approved the proposal of the Committee and that of the Archbishop for the minting of a commemorative coin and the printing of an anniversary stamp. 7. With deep pain, we experienced the consequences of the pandemic in Victoria and especially at our St Basil’s Aged Care facility in Melbourne. We all share in the pain of the relatives of the victims. We are praying for the repose of their souls, while proceeding with a restructuring of the organisation. At the same time, we wish the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of St Basil’s in Melbourne, the Very Reverend Archimandrite Father Evmenios Vasilopoulos, every success, as well as to the new CEO of St Basil’s in NSW and the ACT, Mr Spiro Stavis. 8. The Archdiocesan Council accepted responsibility for not providing an official residence for the incumbent Archbishop, as there is for each Hierarch all over the world. The small lodgings adjoining the Archbishop’s office are completely unsuitable as a permanent residence of any person, let alone for the leader of our Church in Australia. The purchase of an apartment by the Consolidated Trust, with all due process, provides an asset of the Archdiocese, and not His Eminence. To this day, the Archbishop continues to reside in the Archdiocese. It is our respectful decision and our request that the Archbishop should occupy the apartment until the completion of the renovations of the Archdiocese, in which a residence for the serving Archbishop will be incorporated. 9. Finally, with great disappointment we note the continuing hostile conduct of Mr Nicholas Kalliouris and Mrs Vasso Morali, former journalist, and both residents of Greece, as well as other non-institutional and para-ecclesiastical elements against the Archdiocese, St Basil’s Aged Care and our Archbishop personally. We agree with the position of His Eminence Metropolitan Seraphim of Sevasteia that their publications are blasphemous lies. With abhorrence, we condemn what they have written and inform the faithful that they have all been referred to the justice system. We assure everyone that His Eminence Archbishop Makarios, as well as the Archdiocese with its benevolent institutions, will not be blackmailed or influenced in their decisions by their malicious conduct and their defamatory publications.

A reminder about this Thursday evening, great Vespers celebrating St Barbara and Friday morning, Matins and Divine Liturgy in honour of St Barbara, one of the patrons of our Parish. 06.01.2022 The Catholic Bishops of Victoria have written to Premier Daniel Andrews raising concerns of unfairness in COVID restrictions to people of faith: "In the most si...mple of measures, the current restrictions in regional Victoria literally fail the ‘pub test’: if people of faith can gather in a restaurant or bar catering for a particular number of patrons (and remove their face covering), they ought to be able to put on their mask, cross the road and worship in their faith community with the same numbers, provided equivalent COVID-safe practices are in place. We ask that this disparity be rectified urgently and that the principle of fairness be applied for each subsequent step on the roadmap to reopening." Read more here: bit.ly/LettertoPremier250920

03.01.2022 Night Vigil- St. John the Merciful

03.01.2022 Geronda, why do temptations often occur on feast days? -Don't you know? On holy feast days, Jesus Christ, Panaghia and the saints are most joyful, treating us with blessings and other spiritual gifts. If parents offer treats when their children celebrate their nameday why shouldn't the saints also offer us treats? In fact, the joy they give is very powerful and very beneficial to our souls. Knowing this, the devil creates temptations in order to deprive people of these divin...e gifts and prevent them from rejoicing and benefiting them from these feast days. And you can see sometimes when a family is preparing for Holy Communion on a feast day, the evil one will cause them to argue for some reason, and they end up not receiving Holy Communion, but also not going to church. The devil will so entangle things that they are deprived of all divine help. (St Paisios- on the family life). See more

02.01.2022 Blessed feast! Today our Holy Church celebrates Saint Catherine the Great Martyr and Bride of Christ. A remarkable Saint. A young woman full of wisdom, beauty, purity and faith. ... Saint Catherine, you chose the beauty of Christ above the pleasures and desires of this world. Pray that we may learn to love Christ, the Bridegroom of the Church, the way you loved him. Teach us through your holy example the Wisdom of God that opens up the knowledge to the heavenly mysteries, above the corrupted wisdom of godlessness that leads to foolishness and destruction of the soul. Amen.
