24.01.2022 FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT! St Patrick’s College Teachers are banding together to row 590km in 7 days! Head of Sport Jim Potts will row a marathon a day, covering a whopping 42.2km every day for the week. In support of his endeavor a team of St Patrick’s College teachers and support staff will rotate and row alongside Jim, rowing 42.2km each day between them. Jim Potts says I love challenging myself and it’s even better if my efforts can raise awareness and much needed funds ...towards a worthy cause. The team and I are excited to be supporting Edmund Rice Camps Queensland and we hope our efforts can give children an opportunity they otherwise would not have been able too. St Patrick's College is a school in the Edmund Rice tradition aiming to offer a Liberating Education, based on a Gospel Spirituality, within an Inclusive Community committed to Justice and Solidarity. St Patrick’s College is hosting this initiative to support Edmund Rice Camps, a community based not-for-profit organisation, providing recreational holiday getaways for disadvantaged children aged between 7 and 16 years who would otherwise not be able to enjoy such an experience. St Patrick’s College has set a goal of $10,000 in support of this worthy cause. Donations can be made by visiting: https://www.bpoint.com.au/pay/StPatricksCollegeEvents Jim Potts and the team will be rowing from29 November to 1 December 2020. 20.01.2022 PADDY'S GARDEN Every Monday and Wednesday at lunchtime, young men from Year 5, 6 and 9 come down to the Paddy's Garden to learn a number of skills, such as; watering, mulching, weeding, harvesting, staking and, most importantly, teamwork. We have a variety of plants growing from kale, beetroot, pineapple, lavender, celery, tomatoes, and lettuce. ... Interesting Fact: In 2018, we grew a large pumpkin in the garden and entered it in the EKKA and to our surprise we came 2nd in the Royal Queensland Show Heaviest pumpkin competition. The sash and certificate take pride of place in the Junior Learning Hub. The purpose of the garden is to provide lunchtime support to students and to build community spirit of students. These young men are growing vegetables to donate to the Paddy's van to help feed the homeless and less fortunate in our community through SANDBAG. The young men gain a great deal of satisfaction knowing that as a community we are helping in a small way. The College Café also supplies food scraps for the recycling bins in the garden. The Year 6 Morrissey Men of Action Leaders are involved in a recycling program that supplies used paper to the garden as well.

18.01.2022 THE WINDOW TO YOUR FUTURE - CLASS OF 2020 It is a strange thing when more than one person can look out the same window and see different things. Perhaps this is because of the lens that we choose to look through and/or what we are choosing to look for. One thing that this year, above all others, has taught me is that we all have different views and sometimes we can make the mistake that our view is the better because our different view is better. Whilst your time with us ...Continue reading

17.01.2022 AIC 1ST XV RUGBY At the weekend our Rugby and Football teams played against Padua in Rnd 1 of the long awaited AIC Season. It was a very tough day across for the board for the St Pat’s teams with wins hard to come by...... In the Rugby the 1st XV showed great determination to fight their way back in to the match after trailing 0-5 at the halftime break. In a tense second half the Pat’s boys looked to have done enough when they scored a try in the 67th minute to take the score to 20-15 in their favour. Unfortunately a mistake from the kick-off receipt gifted Padua one final chance to launch an attack and they managed to barrel their way over in the corner with a try to tie the scores at 20-20. The kicker missed the difficult conversion to leave the result at a 20-20 draw.

Bushrangers even made a surprise appearance!... The weather was gorgeous and our young men had an excellent day. 08.01.2022 ENLIGHTENED YEAR 5A CLASS The students in 5A have had an enlightening start to their term. They began their studies by creating an interpretation of Van Gogh's 'Starry, Starry Night’. This was the inspiration for them to learn more about natural light sources as they explored this concept in Science, designing and conducting an investigation to demonstrate their understanding of the topic. ... Stars have also been a point of discussion during their analysis of the Infancy narrative in Religion. Students have read sections of the Gospel and had the opportunity to meet with Fr Bryan Roe to discuss their understanding further. They also applied their artistic talents as they compared the Gospel recounts in cartoons. Most recently, as part of the student’s analysis of poetry, they have considered the imagery links between Von Gogh’s paintings and extracts from Don McLean’s song Vincent. All this, and we are only half way through the term. What a bunch of superstars they are! From Mrs Mortimer, 5A Teacher
