25.01.2022 Our Year 7 students enjoyed a fantastic afternoon at Shelly Beach engaging in surf survival skills. Each boy had to swim 200m in 5mins as well as float and tread water for a minute. The boys loved enjoying everything that Manly has to offer as well as becoming more confident in the ocean.

24.01.2022 St Paul’s solemnly marked Remembrance Day, despite the difficulty in bringing the community together because of the COVID-19 restrictions. The address was pre-recorded on the Screencastify video platform and played to each PC group in their classrooms. The boys were extremely reverential during the address. They were then spiritually connected through a heartrending trumpet solo of the Last Post and Reveille (played by Ms Bolton) which echoed around the school and into their ...very souls as we all paused for a minute’s silence. Here is a link to the address: https://drive.google.com//1VATCM8mE2cKtVIsTWuC-IpqK14/view A wreath has been placed in the library for the boys to take a minute to ponder what might have been should they had lived through times of war.

23.01.2022 Today’s traditional Teachers vs Students (year 10) futsal match was played in great spirit and with beautiful weather and Sydney Harbour backdrop. The Year 10’s prevailed. Now all warmed up and ready for Thursday afternoon sport ahead.

21.01.2022 Thank you Mr Casburn for showing the Year 10 boys how to perform basic car maintenance!

20.01.2022 Our Stage 5 (year 9 & 10) PASS students have been studying the topic Enhancing Performance. Within this topic the students are required to investigate Gym Safety techniques for students initiating into resistance training. The use of gym equipment is one aspect students have excelled in. The group of boys have performed a pre-screening and training session with a year 7 PDHPE class to demonstrate the skills they have learnt this term.

20.01.2022 Thank you to our wonderful St Paul’s community who have gone beyond expectation to create and donate generous food hampers and vouchers. Our boys worked closely with Vinnies President Bruce Whittet to personally deliver these hampers to 20 local appreciative families.

19.01.2022 In year 12 Software Design and Development (SDD) this year we explored using code for something a little different, art making! Here is a sample of what one student achieved. This algorithm randomly generates a colour scheme while generating and manipulating the direction and angles of lines in 2D space (amongst other things!). There’s also a sample function the algorithm uses for all your coders out there... Please like and comment if you would like to see more! #STEM

16.01.2022 CSNSW is proud to share with you The Case for Catholic Schools, Volume 2: The Guardians of School Choice, produced by the Kathleen Burrow Research Institute at CSNSW. Following on from The Case for Catholic Schools, Volume 1, this report further expands on the benefits of Catholic schools. This new report explores the contribution that Catholic schools make to delivering school choice to families across Australia, particularly in NSW. Volume 2 explores how school choice is a ...reality where parents can choose non-government schooling alternatives that are affordable, geographically accessible, and continuously available. It explains that for 200 years, Catholic education in Australia has delivered on these criteria, making the aspiration and promise of school choice a reality. School choice is available throughout much of Australia thanks to the nationwide network of low-fee, Catholic schools. As a consequence, Catholic schools can rightfully be called the guardians of school choice. Volume 2 also highlights that school choice is a right, and when recognised by governments, not only meets parental demand for schooling options, but can deliver benefits to all. https://www.csnsw.catholic.edu.au//The-Case-for-Catholic-S

15.01.2022 To finish the year, Year 8 students have been doing a unit on Sumo wrestling. They learnt about the rules and lifestyle of sumo wrestlers. The boys enjoyed doing sumo using the sumo suits although they found them rather difficult to move around in! The gyoji (Referee) would call Matta nashi- to start the sumo bout. Students also participated in a market stall where they bought various food items whilst practicing vocabulary in Japanese such as, how much is it?, ill have a pork dumpling please etc. Our stage 5 students were very obliging by helping to referee the sumo matches and be the shop assistants for the market stall.

14.01.2022 Congratulations to year 12 (2021) student, Reinhardt van Staden, refereeing at the upcoming Touch football State Cup. Serving the touch footy community giving your time and skills is highly appreciated

14.01.2022 Tom Coleman and Jorawar Singh (both year 10 students) participated in the Western Sydney University’s Kirby Cup a Law competition. They were semi-finalists and were awarded a ‘Commendation’ for their entry. They have been offered a conditional place in a combined Law degree once they have completed their HSC (they need to achieve an ATAR within 10 points of the entry mark). We want to emphasise what a significant achievement this is. Not only were they the only representat...ives of the Systemic sector, but they competed against predominately Year 11 and 12 students. The other 22 schools they were competing against were a mix of Independent and Selective High Schools. To make the final 4 schools is testament to the time (including holiday sessions) and hard work Tom and Jorawar devoted to this competition. The theme of the competition was The Law in the time of crisis. Jorawar and Tom introduced their exploration of this topic through the importance of the Magna Carta to the laws surrounding the Commonwealth Government’s responses to the COVID-19 crisis. They then compared this to the legal arguments in relation to the banning of the Communist Party as a precedence to State and Federal powers that were used in 2020.

12.01.2022 Over the past few weeks, Year 8 Technology students have completed and raced their balsawood CO2 cars, with great success. Their next challenge, is to re-engineer the CO2 car into a solar car using the solar kit provided. Each student will need to cut down and re-shape their CO2 car to accommodate the solar panel, motor, drive wheel, axels and wheels. Stay tuned for updates on their engineering progress in the coming weeks.
