24.01.2022 Exciting Times Are Coming Next week we begin our journey into remote learning. This is new territory for all of us. We have deliberately used terms such as remote or distance learning rather than homeschooling as we will still be here, every step of the way to support our students and their families. Our teachers will be in contact every day with their students. Please don't ever feel that you are being left to deal with this all on your own - we're all in this together. So s...tay tuned. Over the next few days (and particularly on Tuesday) further information will be shared with you via CareMonkey. These updates will also be posted here. Thanks once again for your understanding, support and patience.

24.01.2022 Have you seen!!!!! We now have a Distance Learning tab on our website. To access this, simply click on Teaching and Learning and select Distance Learning. This tab currently contains: * a guide for parents * a guide for students * resources... We'll keep adding to this page as the term progresses. http://www.stpeterahc.catholic.edu.au/le/distance-learning/

23.01.2022 Just wanted to share some further resources families might find helpful. The Raising Children network have created a 'family guide' website for COVID-19. It contains helpful information including speaking to children about physical isolation and maintaining routines. The link is here: https://raisingchildren.net.au/g/coronavirus-covid-19-guide The Kids Helpline also had a COVID-19 section on the website which includes information such as coping strategies, written in a child-friendly way. Here is the link: https://kidshelpline.com.au/coronavirus

22.01.2022 These school holidays are unlike any we've ever had - there are limited options to keep the kids entertained and this is made harder by the fact that many of you are working at home. To help out with this, The Big Life Journal, a company our school works with, have provided this Stay At Home package that contain activities your children might find fun. I hope you find it helpful. https://drive.google.com//1U26PKLsQ-FpPrx3OUzDDkLqK2/view

21.01.2022 Parents, We are moving to a closed Facebook Group. This closed Group is only for the St Peter Apostle parent community and will be used to publish what our children are doing, important announcements and details of upcoming events.... We will be keeping our Facebook page, however it will only be used for advertising purposes; such as school enrolments etc to the wider community. Please note, you will be required to answer questions to be accepted into the Group. As there is a Facebook age limit, any students who ask to join will not be accepted. To find our Group, visit our Facebook page and click on GROUPS on the left.

20.01.2022 What a day! So much learning is happening (for teachers as well as students) - and it's only lunchtime! We're already beginning to see some things that are working well and some that are not - but this is a new process and we'll sort it out. Thanks for your patience and understanding. - we'll get there.

20.01.2022 This week we continue with the Emmaus story (Luke 24:19-20, 25-27) Jesus wants his disciples to understand that his suffering and death made sense after all. With your families you may wish to read the gospel passage and pray this prayer: Ever -present God,... We praise you with easter joy because Christ is our redeemer. Through the Eucharist we live the risen life and share the mission of your Son. Keep us faithful to Jesus, who is always with us. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen See more

19.01.2022 We know that this term has had a lot of changes and with that can come uncertainty. To help address this, we have set up a question form parents can use to raise questions they would like to ask. These questions will either be answered through our Facebook page (no names will be shared) or our soon-to-be-released Team Blogs OR if it's a more personal question a member of the Leadership Team will be able to contact you. Please be aware that depending on the number of questions... we receive, responses may take a few days. Two things to keep in mind: * If you have questions about specific tasks being set, please contact the classroom teacher - they are in the best position to answer these * Use the attached Form to submit your questions rather than writing them as comments to this post. Questions can be lodged at the following address: https://docs.google.com//1FAIpQLScc-M9mn5wJqxAB_/viewform

16.01.2022 Facebook Group Parents, Our Facebook Group has questions that require your response to enable you to join. These questions focus on your connection to our school and rules regarding respect and privacy. As this is a closed group, only accessible to current families of St Peter's, your answers to these questions help us determine whether or not you are allowed to join. ... Please make sure: - your name matches our school records (this helps us know who you are) - that you answer every question If you have not been accepted in the Group to date, it will be due to one of the above reasons. Please review your request to join and resend it to us. Thanks,

15.01.2022 With things as they are right now, children are more likely to be spending additional time online. The team from Cyber Safety Project, who have worked with the school over the last couple of years, are putting together a series of webinars for parents to help keep kids safe while online. For more information, please see the link below. https://www.cybersafetyproject.com.au/webinars.html

15.01.2022 You will shortly be receiving a CareMonkey note which will go through the process for the first three weeks of Distance Learning. During this time, your child's classroom teacher will send an email each morning to help the student remain connected to their class. In this email, they will also let you know which times they are available if you require any help. Good luck. Remember we're all in this together.

14.01.2022 If your children are attending school to be supervised this term, please note that not all school crossings will be supervised. Please make sure your child is aware of how they can safely get to school if their usual crossing is no longer manned.

13.01.2022 Distance Learning Week 2: This week we begin our second phase of distance learning, where we will be adding a few new approaches to our learning and teaching: * We would like to introduce 'live' lessons and check-ins with teachers contacting students using Google Meet so that the whole class can meet online. This might be disastrous to begin with, but we want to make a start so that, as the term progresses, teachers will be able to make regular face-to-face contact with their... students. This week will be a trial week, so please don't worry if things don't go according to plan - we will get there! Teachers will let you know when these sessions will be occurring and how to access them. * Teachers will also begin to attend regular planning sessions with school leaders. This means that at some points during the week, teachers will not be accessible. We will be reflecting on what is working well and how we can continue to build effective teaching and learning experiences for our students. We are looking forward to working together on this next phase. Remember to please reach out if there is anything we can do to support you. I'm hoping tomorrow to share with you a User's Guide to the different online platforms we are using to support you in supporting your children - look out more information regarding this.

12.01.2022 Something lighter for your day (apologies, I'm a bit of a maths nerd). You might want to get your children to try this (use a calculator if needed)

12.01.2022 He said, "It is finished." And bowing his head, he handed over the spirit. - John 19:30 Good Friday is a time to remember Jesus' crucifixion and death on the cross. It is a day of fasting and penance and a time to examine all of the places in our lives where we fail to follow Jesus. Good Friday is a time for us to remember that Jesus' death on the cross, along with his resurrection, comprise the heart of the Catholic faith.

12.01.2022 Tomorrow (Sat, 8th August) is the Feast day of St Mary MacKillop - Australia's First Saint.

11.01.2022 Easter Services: Since we can't go to church, our local Parish Priests are bringing Easter Services to you. Please check our website (www.stpeterapostlemission.org.au) for YouTube links to Stations of the Cross and liturgies for Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Vigil recorded for you by our own Fr. Vincent, Fr. Jude and Fr. Albert. You will also find an Easter message from Archbishop Peter Comensoli on our website.

10.01.2022 Getting our heads around all the different online platforms being used as part of our distance learning can be tricky. To help out we've created a User's Guide which aims to step you through accessing and using these different tools. This document will be added to as needed, with new platforms being added when or if they start being used in the classroom. If something is being used in your child's class that you need support with, please feel free to contact us and we can add... it in. If any steps are unclear, or you find something is missing, please let us know and we'll fix it as soon as possible. https://docs.google.com//1K8HwhW-lKOwgjyy2bfnd8JhL8b/edit

10.01.2022 Term 2: Thank you so much to the families who have already filled in the CareMonkey note regarding their requirements for Term 2. If you haven't already done so, could you please fill this in as soon as possible as this will allow us to ensure we had adequate supervision for students for next week. Once again, I'd like to thank you all for your ongoing support and patience. I know these are unprecedented times and the uncertainty is difficult for everyone but you have made this process so much easier for everyone at the school. Thank you

10.01.2022 Our Resource Pick-Up has been going well this morning. Just a reminder that there are books and activities for all grade levels which are available for collection today or tomorrow during school hours.

09.01.2022 During the extended school closure, Sarah Allen (our school psychologist) will still be available to provide wellbeing support to students and parents/guardians using telephone conversations and email contact. Sarah will shortly be contacting the parents of students she is currently supporting to plan arrangements for ongoing support during this extended closure. Further, if your child(ren) have not been seeing Sarah for support and you would like to arrange counselling support for them, please do not hesitate to contact Sarah via [email protected] and she will contact you for further discussion about arrangements to support them.

08.01.2022 Traditionally at St Peter's we hold a service at school to commemorate ANZAC Day. Unfortunately, we won't be able to do this, this year. So instead, with the help of some of our Gr 6 students, we have made a digital version of our ceremony, including the Last Post and Reville and a one minute's silence. If you and your family would like to use this, please feel free. https://drive.google.com//1Odofp6J_Zmu8ND0fnu0kpDv-9/view

07.01.2022 Let's celebrate that Jesus is risen!! Today is a day to renew our Baptismal vows and to remember that the resurrection of Jesus proves that the claims he made were true. He was the promised Messiah!! From all the staff at St Peter's we wish you and your families a very Happy Easter

06.01.2022 Families may find the following link to the latest wellbeing report from Dr Michael Carr-Gregg helpful. Amongst other things, it contains a checklist to use to monitor children's levels of anxiety. https://schooltv.me//special-report-wellbeing-checklist-pr

06.01.2022 It certainly is a different school break this year. However, we all need to play our part - follow the government guidelines, stay at home, practise good hygiene, etc - to minimise the spread of the virus. However, we can look at the positives - staying home keeps us, and others, safe. It also gives us the opportunity to do things we might otherwise not find the time to do. What's something you and your family are doing to help pass the time these holidays?

05.01.2022 This week Jesus asked us to doubt no longer. There were many signs from Jesus that the disciples witnessed. Maybe you would like to pray this prayer with your families: Holy Spirit, Give us the grace of faith, strengthen our belief in God and lead us beyond our doubts, Amen.

05.01.2022 We have just received the link to the digital exhibition for the Catholic Education Week Visual Arts Exhibition which was cancelled due to social distancing requirements. We had five entries this year and Reaiah in Grade 6 won the primary portraiture prize and you can see her work on the winner's page. There is also a peoples choice award that you can vote for but votes need to be done before Friday 1st May. I hope you enjoy viewing the exhibition and once again congratulat...ions to all the students whose work was exhibited. https://sites.google.com/cem.ed/creativeartsexhibition2020/

05.01.2022 This week is Teacher Aide Appreciation Week (at St Peter's they are known as LSO's). Australian Teacher Aide Appreciation Week is an opportunity to acknowledge the important role of teacher aides, whose hard work and dedication make a difference to students, teachers and the school community. We are so blessed to have a wonderful group of LSO's helping us at our school. Many of them work tirelessly behind the scenes to help make things easier for students and teachers, and many work 1-1 with children or in small groups. I'm sure if you ask your children who they are in their class, they will be able to share the wonderful things they do. So from all of us here at St Peter's, we want to say a HUGE thank you to each and every one of our LSO's. You are very much appreciated!

05.01.2022 Another link parents might find helpful in these uncertain times: Lifeline includes information with tips on managing mental health during the virus outbreak, including ways to stay connected with others and managing exposure to media coverage. It also includes information on how to help children with their concerns and a 'toolbox' information page about working from home. The link is to the website is here: https://www.lifeline.org.au//mental-health-and-wellbeing-d

04.01.2022 A huge shout out to our families. You are doing an amazing job! We are well aware of the fact that not only are you supervising your children's learning from home, but many of you are also looking after younger children, working from home yourselves and doing the everyday things like cooking and cleaning. You are incredible! This may be tough but together we are tougher - we've got this!

02.01.2022 A CareMonkey note has just been sent to all families regarding Term 2 on the advice given by the Victorian Government. Please respond to the note by 9am Thursday April 9th. Thank you.

02.01.2022 Our Gr 1 students have been getting rather creative with their Distance Learning tasks. The students have been learning about emotions and created different 'faces' to show these emotions.

02.01.2022 Helping children to manage their emotions can be tricky at the best of times. Sarah Allen our school psychologist, has put together some tips on how to assist children to understand and manage their emotions. Please read using the link provided. https://drive.google.com//1uxXk5vaVQHyOeq9o4HWiCBVCD/view

01.01.2022 Term 2 is nearly here and we've been busy setting up our Distance Learning routines. Tomorrow teachers will be working on their programs and how these will be delivered to students. Keep your eye out for more information about how this will work. In the meantime, if you have been unable to pick up your Home Learning Packs, the school will be opened from 9 am to 3 pm for you to do so.
