22.01.2022 Day 13 Consecration to St Joseph. Today Fr Lewi Barakat provides us with an insightful reflection on St Joseph under the title, Foster Father of the Son of God.... Father Lewi helps us to better understand the reality of St Joseph's dilemma upon finding out that Our Lady was with child. Fr Lewi Barakat is an Assistant Priest at St Mary’s Cathedral and the Master of Ceremonies to the Archbishop of Sydney. As a Catholic Priest I desire above all to be faithful to God, and to be joyful and responsible with the gifts that He has entrusted to me for the good of the Church and the benefit of all people. Salvation of souls is at the heart of priestly life nothing is more important to me than helping others to know and to believe in Jesus Christ, who is ‘the Way, the Truth and the Life’ (John 14:6). He alone has the power to call every human person no matter how weak or wounded, gifted or strong, to come and discover in Him ‘life to the full’ (John 10:10) Born and raised in Western Sydney, the youngest of four children to Syrian parents, he was a proud student of Trinity Catholic College, Auburn. After school, Fr Lewi pursued his passion for sport, graduating with a degree in Exercise Science from the Australian Catholic University. As a qualified Exercise Physiologist, he worked within the health and exercise industry for over five years. After discerning and accepting the invitation to follow Christ into the Seminary, Fr Lewi studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome and continued with post-graduate studies at the Angelicum, working on a Licentiate in Dogmatic Theology. He was ordained a Deacon at St Peter’s Basilica in 2014. On the Solemnity of The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary 2015, Fr. Lewi Barakat was ordained a Priest at St Mary’s Cathedral by Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP. Upon his return to Sydney, Fr Lewi was appointed as an Assistant Priest to the Parish of All Saints, Liverpool: I loved being there. I was greatly encouraged and humbled by the welcome of the people and their fidelity to Christ and the Church. Fr Lewi found joy in supporting families and building relationships within the wider community, often seeking ways to call people back to the Church: I served as a Chaplain in a variety of places including one of the local schools, our young adult faith formation, the RCIA, and ministering to the sick and dying at Liverpool Hospital, but I also enjoyed the surprise encounters with people whilst walking the city and visiting the local cafes. He was appointed to St Mary’s Cathedral in March 2019. Fr Lewi delights in being with his family and friends whenever possible. He enjoys exploring the outdoors and his sports, particularly soccer the real football, and will sometimes check in on the rugby league to see how the Wests Tigers are doing. Fishing is one of his favourite past-times for reasons both leisurely and biblical. Reading and travel, he says broaden your perspective and enhance your taste buds, awakening our sense of wonder, which is a precondition for the search for truth.

22.01.2022 Today we mark a very special celebration for the Archdiocese of Sydney with the ordination of four new priests to serve our parishes: Deacons Jonathan Vala, Noe...l Custodio, John Pham and Roberto Keryakos. The ordination of these faith-filled young men is a gift for the people of God in Sydney and beyond. This gives us great hope, confidence, faith and gratitude to Our Lord Jesus Christ. 18.01.2022 Today is the feast day of the archangels, Saint Michael, Saint Gabriel and Saint Raphael. The liturgy celebrates the feast of these three archangels who are ven...erated in the tradition of the Church. Saint Michael is our protector, I ask him to come to my aid, fight for all my loved ones and protect us from danger. Saint Gabriel is a messenger for the Good News, I ask him to help me clearly, hear your voice and to teach me the truth. Saint Raphael is the healing angel, I ask him to take my need for healing and that of everyone I know, lift it up to your throne of grace and deliver back to us the gift of recovery. Saint Michael, Saint Gabriel and Saint Raphael pray for us #michael #gabriel #raphael #archangel #catholiclife #catholics #catholic #sydneycatholics #catholicarchdioceseofsy See more

14.01.2022 As we draw to the close of the liturgical year the Church asks us to think in more apocalyptic terms. The ‘end times’ began with Pentecost and we do not know th...e time or the hour for the Parousia, but our own end is not so far off and so we should consider our lives in the shadow of the 4 last things. 2 Peter 2:1-9 As there were false prophets in the past history of our people, so you too will have your false teachers, who will insinuate their own disruptive views and disown the Master who purchased their freedom. They will destroy themselves very quickly; but there will be many who copy their shameful behaviour and the Way of Truth will be brought into disrepute on their account. They will eagerly try to buy you for themselves with insidious speeches, but for them the Condemnation, pronounced so long ago, is at its work already, and Destruction is not asleep. When angels sinned, God did not spare them: he sent them down to the underworld and consigned them to the dark underground caves to be held there till the day of Judgement. Nor did he spare the world in ancient times: it was only Noah he saved, the preacher of righteousness, along with seven others, when he sent the Flood over a disobedient world. The cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, these too he condemned and reduced to ashes; he destroyed them completely, as a warning to anybody lacking reverence in the future; he rescued Lot, however, a holy man who had been sickened by the shameless way in which these vile people behaved for that holy man, living among them, was outraged in his good soul by the crimes that he saw and heard of every day. These are all examples of how the Lord can rescue the good from the ordeal, and hold the wicked for their punishment until the day of Judgement.

01.01.2022 UPDATED: Venerable Carlo Acutis, will be beatified this coming 10th of October! His tomb was opened for public veneration yesterday where a spokeswoman for Vene...rable Acutis’ beatification told the Catholic News Agency that the entire body was present, but not incorrupt. At the Mass for the opening of the tomb, Archbishop Domenico Sorrentino of Assisi said the following: Today we see him again in his mortal body. A body that has passed, in the years of burial in Assisi, through the normal process of decay, which is the legacy of the human condition after sin has removed it from God, the source of life. But this mortal body is destined for resurrection, Carlo's ever present desire to live a life dedicated to Our Lord in the Eucharist and to share the wonders of this immense gift with the world via his Eucharistic Miracles website, is a great testimony to the young people of today. We can all be saints! Carlo's website can still be accessed here: http://www.miracolieucaristici.org/en/Liste/list.html See more
