19.01.2022 Sour beers are gaining in popularity and are particularly suited to our warm climate in South East Queensland. Gose (pronounced GOHZ-uh, rhymes with Rosa) is a good introduction to the world of sour beer, as it tends to be more subtle, fresher and less acidic than some of the funkier lambic and barrel aged styles. Gose in the traditional style is brewed with 50% or more wheat malt, spiced with coriander, has a lemon sour character from lactobacillus bacteria (as seen in yoghu...rt) and a distinct saltiness, either from the local water or the addition of salt. In our Myora Springs Gose, weve dropped the divisive coriander in favour of Desert Lime (Citrus glauca), a native citrus with a gorgeous aroma and piquant flavour, sustainably sourced and freeze dried by Australian-owned NATIF. Thirty one judges critiqued 696 beers from independent brewers nationwide, to award Gold, Silver & Bronze Medals as part of the Independent Beer Awards aka The Indies. ... We are stoked to announce that Straddie Brewing Co picked up three medals: Gold for Point Lookout Lager, Bronze for Amity Pale Ale and Bronze for our Myora Springs Gose. Given we only started brewing in July this year, and have only released three beers, this is a FANTASTIC achievement, and well-deserved recognition for our brewer, Andrew Sydes @happinessandhoppiness Kudos mate We can’t wait for next year. 12.01.2022 We never had plans to brew our beers anywhere other than at our brewery, built on Straddie. Wed been developing our beers for almost nine months and our plans for the three-storey bespoke brewhouse and taproom at Dunwich for more than two years. Cue COVID-19. Like so many other businesses, it has thrown our 2020 Opening plans out the window. But were not giving up. Were working hard to realise our dream to make Dunwich our home. The future success of the island community... is as important to us as the beer we craft. Our goal has always been, and remains despite the pandemic setbacks, to create a product and build a brand that becomes bigger than the destination, but still retains the Island soul. Thank you to everyone who has supported us on this journey so far.
