23.01.2022 Streamlining written permissions: making your hunt easier! In response to your feedback, we are streamlining and reducing the size of your written permissio...n to only three pages by removing the hunting map tiles. We'll be working to remove the printable hunting map tiles, which means your written permission will now only include one map of the entire forest. There are no changes to your GPS hunting maps or the requirement to have them available on your GPS-enabled device before hunting. Garmin, .KMZ and .PDF files remain available. These changes mean that we’ll be able to update hunting maps more easily during the quarter so that we can continue to maximise hunting opportunities for all R-Licence hunters. Changes you may notice Updating our system in this way is a manual process. While we implement these changes, you may notice blank pages on your written permission in place of these maps. We are working to remove these additional pages as soon as possible, in the meantime please disregard these blank pages. Once the changes have been implemented, you will only need to download and digitally store or print a three-page written permission. If you would like to access detailed hunting maps, check out the Forestry Corporation of NSW's Hunting Exclusion Areas Online Map - https://bit.ly/FCNSWHuntingMap Please note: the FCNSW map should only be used as a guide and you are still required to download the current hunting exclusion maps to your GPS device before heading out to hunt.

19.01.2022 Charges after firearms storage breach uncovered Mid North Coast Police District Police are reminding firearms owners about their obligations with safe storage... as Operation Armour continues across NSW. Operation Armour focuses on preventing, disrupting and reducing firearm thefts, with Rural Crime Prevention Teams conducting safe-storage inspections and compliance checks. As part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged shooting of wedge-tailed eagles on the Mid North Coast, officers attached to the Mid North Coast Rural Crime Prevention Team (RCPT) with assistance from the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment, NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service attended a property in Barraganyatti, about 30km north of Kempsey, at about 3pm yesterday (Thursday 11 June 2020), where they spoke with a 53-year-old man. During a search of the property, police conducted a safe-storage inspection of the registered firearms. Police will allege the firearms were not being stored safely and the storage unit was non-compliant with regulations. The man has since been issued with a Future Court Attendance Notice for the offences of not keep firearm safely-not prohibited firearm, and holder of Category A or B licence not have approved storage. He is due to face Kempsey Local Court in August. His firearms were seized and his firearms licence was suspended. State Rural Crime Coordinator, Detective Inspector Cameron Whiteside, says officers want firearms holders to brush-up on their legal obligations. Our Rural Crime Prevention Teams want to educate all firearms licensees about safe storage and overall safety and management," Det Insp Whiteside said. If our officers find licence-holders have failed to comply with these responsibilities - which are required by law - then we will not hesitate to suspend their licence, seize firearms and take legal action. Firearms that are not safely stored can become opportunistic targets for thieves. When in the wrong hands, firearms are dangerous, and a threat to the community. Licence-holders are also reminded of their obligations under the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 regarding the protection and conservation of animals and birds. If breached, this can carry a hefty monetary penalty or even imprisonment, Det Insp Whiteside said. Officers from the Rural Crime Prevention Team will continue to conduct regular safe storage inspections across the state. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000.
18.01.2022 Pig-hunt trespass charges Central North Police District A man has been charged over alleged trespass and hunting offences on a property in the state’s far nor...th in May this year. It’s alleged two men were pig hunting when they illegally entered a property on Pilliga Road, Pilliga, about 10pm on Friday 22 May 2020. Following inquiries, Walgett Rural Crime Investigators spoke to a 42-year-old man about 10.30am on Friday 3 July 2020 at his home in Walgett Street, Pilliga. The man was later charged with enter private land to hunt animal without owner consent, enter inclosed agricultural land accompanied by hunting dog, hunt game animal on private/public land without licence and hunt, shoot, injure, capture, etc or possess animal in park . He was given a future court attendance notice to appear at Walgett Local Court on Tuesday 18 August 2020. State Rural Crime Coordinator, Detective Inspector Cameron Whiteside, said the Rural Crime Prevention Team and local police have a zero-tolerance approach to anyone illegally hunting or trespassing. Whether it be on a farm or other private land, the message is simple - get permission. If you don’t have permission or the required permit, don’t go there, Det Insp Whiteside said. The Rural Crime Prevention Team is not going away, it is business as usual and we are committed to catching anyone and everyone that think it is ok to commit rural crimes. Inquiries continue.
15.01.2022 Did you know that steel jaw traps are illegal to set in NSW? Our inspectors want to remind members of the public that it is illegal to set a steel jaw trap or p...ossess a steel jaw trap with the intention of setting it under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (1979). Fines of up to $5,500 for an individual and/or six months’ imprisonment can be imposed, and fines up to $27,500 for a corporation. Steel jaw traps cause severe injury and significant pain to trapped animals. RSPCA NSW Inspector Hills, who works in the northern region of New South Wales, has come across multiple instances where these traps have been illegally used. He says he has commonly seen them being set to capture cats or foxes. Members of the public often set them either in their own property or adjacent to their property, such as backing onto bushland or reserves, explains Inspector Hills. I have dealt with a number of cases where cats, foxes, and a few dogs have become caught, resulting in the trapped animal requiring extensive veterinary treatment or euthanasia. Unlike electric collars, which are illegal to possess, it is not illegal to possess a steel jaw trap. However, it is illegal to possess one with the intention of setting it. This photo shows 163 steel jaw traps seized by Inspector Kelly and Inspector Hills, which were soon after destroyed and recycled.

04.01.2022 About 10:15pm on Friday 5 June 2020 police were patrolling Pilliga West National Park as part of Operation Harrier, when a grey Toyota Hilux was seen driving at... low speed through the National Park. Two dogs were allegedly seen running along in front of the Hilux. Police stopped the vehicle and observed a medium sized dead pig (sow) in the rear of the utility . The dogs were scanned and one was found not to be microchipped, with neither dog having a name tag on their collars. The man was issued a $500 infringement for 'Hunt/shoot/injure/capture etc or possess animal in park'. Warnings were issued for other offences including ‘Dog not wear collar/name tag’ and ‘Not identify companion animal as prescribed’. North-West Rural Crime Zone Coordinator, Detective Sergeant Bennett Nolan, said There is no excuse for hunting in a National Park, particularly when there are half a dozen state forests within an hour’s drive which allow night time hunting with dogs. Anyone who is caught illegally hunting will be on our radar and may face confiscation of vehicles and equipment. He also urged responsible pig doggers to identify their animals correctly All hunting dogs must be microchipped, registered, and wear a name tag in public. Anyone who would like information on how to lawfully hunt in State Forests can visit the NSW DPI Hunting Facebook page or website at https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/hunting
03.01.2022 More than 700 firearms have been seized, and a registered gun dealer has been charged, as part of an ongoing Strike Force Raptor investigation into the supply o...f prohibited drugs and firearms across NSW. In June 2018, investigators from the Criminal Groups Squad’s Strike Force Raptor commenced an investigation into the supply of prohibited drugs and firearms across the state. As part of their ongoing inquiries, investigators attended a property in The Marra and arrested a 69-year-old man, about 9.10am yesterday (Tuesday 16 June 2020). A short time later, Strike Force Raptor investigators, assisted by officers from Western Region Operations Support Group (OSG) and the Firearms Registry, executed a search warrant at a home at Nyngan. During the search, officers located more than 700 firearms including 11 unregistered guns. The man, who is a registered gun dealer, was taken to Nyngan Police Station and charged with 28 offences including; Not keep firearm safely (x8), possess unregistered firearm (x4), supply firearm to person unauthorised to possess it (x3), supply unregistered firearm not prohibited firearm/pistol (x3), supply, give ammunition to person not authorised, (x2) supply, give ammunition not view licence, permit (x2) fail to keep record of ammunition transactions (x2), use, supply, acquire or possess defaced firearm, use, supply etc stolen firearm or firearm part, possess unregistered firearm not prohibited firearm/pistol, sell military-style weapon buyer no authority. It will be alleged in court that the man was selling a number of prohibited weapons, unregistered firearms and ammunition on an ongoing basis. He was refused bail to appear at Dubbo Local Court today (Wednesday 17 June 2020). As a result of the charges, the man’s Firearms Dealer Licence was suspended and all firearms located at the property, both registered and unregistered, were seized for forensic examination. Criminal Groups Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Robert Critchlow, said this arrest and significant seizure of firearms sends a strong message to those in the illegal gun trade. Yesterday’s successful operation in the state’s Central West is a result of an ongoing 18-month investigation into criminal activity and specifically in this case, the supply of prohibited firearms, Det Supt Critchlow said. Police will allege that this man, who is a registered gun dealer, was selling firearm parts and prohibited modified weapons including a rocket launcher. NSW Police support safe and legal firearm ownership, however, those responsible for illegally dealing guns for the purpose of criminal activity, will be investigated, arrested and put before the courts, Det Supt Critchlow said. So far, this investigation has resulted in 30 arrests and the seizure of the following items; More than 730 firearms (including military assault rifles, semi-automatic pistols, shotguns and rifles) Assorted prohibited weapons (including ballistic vests, a smoke bomb, batons, handcuffs and silencers) Thousands of rounds of assorted ammunition 14.3kgs of MDMA 56kgs of gamma-butyrolactone (GBL) 5.9kg of ephedrine 3.1kg of methylamphetamine (ice) 901g of heroin 425g of amphetamine 26 cannabis plants Investigations by Strike Force Raptor detectives are continuing.
