06.01.2022 Disconnecting from Social Media Social media can sometimes be a double-edged sword that offers as many drawbacks as it does benefits. Many people wanting to stay connected end up being a little too captivated by it, and social media can even become something close to an addiction when people spend too much time on it, often aimlessly and repeatedly. Addictions are no joke and can end up having serious consequences including isolation and poor social relationships, stress, anx...iety, and even depression. If you are beginning to feel that you are spending too much time on social media, then it is time to take action to disconnect. One good idea is to choose at least one day of the week to disappear from social media entirely. This might be difficult at first but will give you the chance to perform other tasks. Once you have gotten used to having a regular day away from it, you might want to expand it to two days or even more. Self-regulation is another good idea. Give yourself some rules so that you are only allowed to use social media at particular times during the day. You might also want to disable notifications and alerts. See more

03.01.2022 Smarter than the average Will Having a Will is a good first step but it may not be enough for your assets to be passed on in the most tax-effective manner. This is why including a trust as part of the Will is becoming an increasingly popular option. Testamentary trusts are usually discretionary, which means, depending on the trust deed, the person you appoint as trustee can distribute the income and assets of the trust in a way they believe is in the best interests of your be...neficiaries. If your trustee is financially savvy, they may also have knowledge about how to make the most of the familys tax-free income each year. One way to do this is to split income from the trust to take advantage of beneficiaries tax-free thresholds. If a beneficiary has children or grandchildren under 18 years of age, distributions from testamentary trusts can generally be taxed very favourably. Beneficiaries under 18 can generally take advantage of the tax-free threshold of $18,200 (2014/15) and have the option of claiming the low income tax rebate of $445 on testamentary trust distributions. A testamentary trust can also give your husband or wife control over how to distribute your assets effectively for stamp duty and capital gains tax (CGT) purposes. See more
