16.01.2022 Shane Lui is passionate about his Torres Strait roots and is putting it to work with a business that is owned by a Torres Strait Islander employing Torres Strai...t Islanders. After leaving Darnley Island to attend school Shane returned to his community with a desire to create something that would have a legacy and opportunities for his people. Shane forged a career in the civil construction industry, then landed a position in the mining sector. His drive ability and experience saw him progress quickly through the ranks to eventually become super intendant and mine manager at one of Queensland’s largest mine sites. Strait Support is the brainchild of Shane, combining his two professional goals in life delivering high quality construction projects and providing improved outcomes for the Indigenous workforce and communities. Their mission is to increase genuine sustainable employment and training opportunities, mentoring and up-skilling jobseekers. COVID has not had the same impact on them as some other businesses. Shane believes they were lucky to pick up some local projects and says, Although some larger projects we had scheduled were put on hold, Strait Support was able to continue working and employing staff throughout COVID.
