30.04.2022 A new dog disease, ehrlichiosis, has been confirmed in Victoria. Dog owners and veterinarians are urged to be on the lookout for ehrlichiosis, which is caused ...by the brown dog tick biting dogs. Common signs include fever, lethargy, eye changes (conjunctivitis, cloudy or red eyes), bleeding disorders such as nosebleeds and bleeding under the skin, which can look like red patches, small spots or bruising. Check your dog regularly for ticks by running your fingers through their coat, on the skin, paying attention to the head, neck, ears, chest, between their toes and around their mouth and gums. If your dog is unwell or you find any abnormal bumps or ticks, make sure you promptly arrange to take your dog to your vet. Report any suspected notifiable diseases to the Emergency Animal Disease Watch Hotline on 1800 675 888. https://agriculture.vic.gov.au//general-lives/ehrlichiosis

25.01.2022 MEET OUR DOGS Grand Champion Glenbogle Magic Moments NE CA "Ziva" Ziva is our 2nd Border terrier and became the foundation for Straitup. She came home on the 22nd of July, 2007 and wormed her way into my heart. ... She was known as "Yellow girl" in her mum, Indi's, second litter. Indi was also Caber's sister, so Caber and Ziva were uncle and niece. She was a star in the show ring from the beginning and quickly gained her Champion title. She was less successful in other pursuits, it seems that being told what to do (aka obedience) was not at all appealing to her so we stuck to showing and cuddles. As well as some hunting, she is a very impressive vermin control dog with excellent mousing skills. During her show career, she amassed many class in group awards, several Runner up Best in Group awards as well as many Best of breeds and challenges in large breed entries. She also earned herself 2 Reserve Challenges at Melbourne Royal and a 16 point Bitch Challenge at Adelaide Royal. Perhaps her most impressive show ring achievement was going Best in Specialty Show at the Border terrier Club of Victoria Championship Show in 2010, when her first litter were just 5 months of age. She gained her 1000th Challenge point in December, 2014 at the Scottish Breeds Club of Victoria with Bitch Challenge and Best of Breed, making her a Grand Champion. In January 2010, she whelped her first litter (Casey, Alice, Harry, Indi, Lola and Scout) and in November 2011 she whelped her 2nd (Tarva & Willy). June 2014 saw her gain what I never expected, her first performance title! She was awarded 2 consecutive passes in Novice Earthdog so she added "NE" to her official name. She has one pass towards her Senior Earthdog title to date. Early May 2017 saw us nearly lose her when she decided to take on one of our horses, Tobi. To my shock and delight, despite being knocked unconscious with a hoof to the head, she recovered with minor injuries (bruising, a cracked tooth and a missing toenail along with a few scrapes) and bounced back in no time. On the 25th of May she celebrated her 10th birthday! At the end of June 2017, we attended a 2 day Lure Coursing trial (the first ANKC one in Victoria) and she got back to back passing scores, giving her the title of Junior Courser (JC). 12 months later, she gained her 12th consecutive pass in the sport which enabled her to add "CA" to her name (Coursing Ability). She was the first Australian Border terrier to do this. I am incredibly proud of her. While she still does not like obedience, when she is allowed to make her own choices and follow her instincts, she is a star. Unfortunately due to the onset of arthritis, we have had to retire her from Lure Coursing but she is not ready for a life on the couch just yet so watch this space :) Above all, Ziva is an incredible little brown dog, with a mind of her own, who once you meet her, you'll never forget her.

13.01.2022 This week marks 14 years with a Border terrier in my life. It's not a long time compared to many other kennels, but it has been an amazing journey so far. I first decided to get a Border terrier when I had a Newfoundland from a less than desirable source and a Dobermann X from the pound, both lovely dogs however both had health concerns and I wanted a smaller, hardier dog that I could be more active with. I also wanted to fulfill a childhood dream and hit the show ring. The ...Continue reading
12.01.2022 We take great pride in all of our dogs, but there is something special about the "oldies". Yesterday at the Bacchus Marsh and District Kennel Club show, under Mrs C Rafton from NSW our Ziva was entered in the Veteran Sweepstakes for dogs over 10 years of age and to my delight she was awarded 3rd place. She had a grand time doing her thing in the ring
