23.01.2022 Licensed post offices see return to the dark ages without Holgate, as former Australia Post boss offers to volunteer with them at Christmas The operators of licensed post offices across the country say they are facing a return to the dark ages after the resignation of former Australia Post chief executive Christine Holgate, according to an association that represents thousands of post office operators. And the former boss has equally thrown her support behind licensees, ...offering to continue to work with them despite resigning from her position, and even volunteer in their businesses over Christmas. The Licensed Post Office Group has been a vocal supporter of Holgate since it was revealed Australia Post spent $19,950 on four Cartier watches for employees in 2018, and Prime Minister Scott Morrison ordered the chief executive to stand down. Where to from here we may ask? #strategicsolutionsbusinessstructures #stratgicsolutionssetforsuccess https://www.ssqld.net.au/ "IT'S NEVER TOO EARLY AND IT'S DEFINITELY NEVER TOO LATE"

23.01.2022 Insolvency relief extended until new year The Morrison government has extended insolvent trading relief out to 2021 in a bid to prevent further job losses and avoid another massive hit to the economy. As foreshadowed by The Australian Financial Review in July, the move will see the increased thresholds at which creditors can issue a demand on a company and or initiate bankruptcy proceedings extended until December 31.... #strategicsolutionsvoluntaryadministration #strategicsolutionssetupastrategy https://www.ssqld.net.au/ "IT'S NEVER TOO EARLY AND IT'S DEFINITELY NEVER TOO LATE"

20.01.2022 JobMaker hiring credits could be revised, after COSBOA highlights onerous burden for small business The Department of Treasury is working with the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia (COSBOA) to address key aspects of the JobMaker hiring credit scheme, after the peak body raised serious concerns about the program in a submission to a Senate inquiry. Speaking with SmartCompany this morning, COSBOA chief executive Peter Strong says he now believes there will be ...room to move on key design elements of the scheme, which was announced on budget night, but is yet to be legislated for. The scheme, which will pay employers up to $200 a week in hiring credits when they take on unemployed young people, was referred to the Senate for an inquiry amid debate about its tight eligibility criteria and the potential for older workers to be discriminated against in favour of younger job-seekers. #strategicsolutionsbusinessstructures #stratgicsolutionssetforsuccess https://www.ssqld.net.au/ "IT'S NEVER TOO EARLY AND IT'S DEFINITELY NEVER TOO LATE"

19.01.2022 The road to 2021 will be winding, but you’re more prepared than you realise, says COSBOA director Sandy Chong "When I first opened my business, I wanted to be my own boss, have great staff, and earn a good wage. Simple. That was my plan.... I didn’t have any other plan. I had no idea what a business plan was. This was my picture of success. I knew I was good at what I did, and that’s all I thought that counted. I wanted to do everything differently from where I had worked previously. I was going to be a better boss, a better person and have a better business. Good plan. It didn’t take long to realise that I didn’t understand nor have the skills for bookkeeping, budgeting, employment law, superannuation, negotiating leases and dealing with landlords, banks, loans and overdrafts, consumer law, negotiating with product companies, marketing and advertising, social media, Google and SEO, advertising, building a website, mental health, recruiting, interviewing and keeping staff, being a psychologist for clients and staff, OH&S regulations, what goes in a first aid box, training teams, council regulations, how often to change over a fire extinguisher, dealing with difficult, demanding and rude customers, litigation, toxic staff, dealing with the unions, understanding apprenticeships and training, creating a team culture, developing staff and how to make money, employment contracts, protecting IP, business insurance, audit insurance, director’s insurance and so the list went on. I didn’t know what I didn’t know." 17.01.2022 Helping Small Businesses Survive after COVID-19

17.01.2022 The only certainty is uncertainty Business craves certainty. It’s what makes investing possible, and hiring more probable. It makes the wheels spin. But this week has shown business conditions, in Australia and globally, are anything but certain. Will the US election, change things for local businesses?... Meanwhile, trade tensions with China are escalating, putting Australian SME exporters at serious risk. The Reserve Bank has attempted to offer some certainty by indicating it won’t increase interest rates for at least three years, and the big four banks have passed along the latest rate cut to business customers. And if there’s one retail trend we can rely on, it’s that the buy-now-pay-later juggernaut won’t be slowing any time soon.

08.01.2022 Expense processing no small feat Businesses spend a huge amount of money each year reimbursing workers for on-the-job expenses they have paid. While no single agency tracks exactly what this amount is, looking through the ATO website on fringe benefits tax rules, employee reimbursement requirements and deduction versus expenses outlines, it is abundantly clear that this is no small process for the collective business community. Among the most common expenses reimbursed by bus...inesses are: Vehicle mileage Travel Entertainment/hospitality Stationery Accommodation Subscriptions The hidden costs of managing expenses It is not only the expenses themselves that cost a business, but how they are processed can also have a direct impact on profitability. When staff expenses are being processed, there is likely to be higher costs or lost earnings resulting from: Increased strain on the finance/accounting team Lost productivity from employees while completing expense paperwork ~ Difficulties in fact-check expenses are legitimate and work-related ~ Constraints on cash flow (reimbursing employees promptly can crimp business cash flows, especially when unexpected claims are lodged; while delaying repayments strains employee budgets, leading to workplace tension) ~ Determining and overlooking possible fringe benefits tax (FBT) liabilities How can employee expenses be managed? The most common method is for employees to provide their own receipts, and the accounting department then reimburses this as one lump sum into employee bank accounts, either at regular intervals (such as weekly) or alongside the regular salary payments. #strategicsolutionsbusinessstructures #stratgicsolutionssetforsuccess https://www.ssqld.net.au/ "IT'S NEVER TOO EARLY AND IT'S DEFINITELY NEVER TOO LATE"

02.01.2022 What to do if your business missed the SG amnesty deadline Now that the superannuation guarantee amnesty deadline has passed, what should businesses that still have unpaid or late paid super to disclose be doing to ensure their penalties are minimised? SG amnesty ended earlier this week on 7 September.... Any SG amnesty forms received after 7 September will be treated as a standard lodgement of a Superannuation guarantee charge statement. On its website, the Australian Taxation Office said businesses that didn’t apply for the SG amnesty but still have unpaid or late paid super to disclose will need to lodge a Superannuation guarantee charge statement and pay the super guarantee charge (SGC). #strategicsolutionsbusinessstructures #stratgicsolutionssetforsuccess https://www.ssqld.net.au/ "IT'S NEVER TOO EARLY AND IT'S DEFINITELY NEVER TOO LATE"
