23.01.2022 What to expect for patients when your doctor may offer a Telehealth appointment. And... how can you get the best value out of it?

21.01.2022 WOW (Wheels of Wellness) is a local (and growing) registered charity providing healthcare to vulnerable and marginalised people here in Cairns. We provide mostl...y primary health care and acute medicine, in a multidisciplinary team to community members who have any barriers to accessing traditional health care. We are looking for a senior VR GP who has the interest and experience in working in this space. You will need to be flexible in your delivery style, and mindset, as we have clinics that range between fixed location, in the back of a van, and in the community. You should be non-judgemental, culturally competent, pro-active, and able to work with a complex client group, with often a high burden of mental health and social disadvantage, across all ages. Supportive team and senior medical mentorship provided. You need to bring your passion and desire to work well in a team optimizing care for these clients via various modes of delivery including face-to-face, telehealth. You will need a flexible outcomes focus mindset, sound knowledge around chronic disease, mental health, and MBS knowledge, as well as the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team, and have leadership skills. wow.org.au Inquiries welcome, flexible part time role for the right candidate who can take us further in our journey of delivering excellent care. 12.01.2022 I’m looking for some community feedback: When you move from one medical practice to another, you often are asked to fill in a ‘transfer records’ form. Your records are copied across to your new practice, and still held (as per the legal requirements) at the original practice, so the word transfer isn’t right. What should one call this form that a patient signs, instead of a ‘transfer of records’ form? ... The aim is to be more accurate and transparent about what happens to your medical information See more

11.01.2022 We may think there is no COVID in Cairns, BUT, there are still plenty of other reasons for a cough! Whatever you have, we don't want to expose our staff or other vulnerable patients to anything that may make us unwell, we could do without even a sniffle, as we cant come to work with any illness at all! Please bear with us in our efforts to keep the germ spread as low as possible - it takes an effort from the whole community, and you could be part of that collective goal.

04.01.2022 LOCAL UPDATE TO PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT: Following further contact tracing work overnight, Queensland Health has expanded its list of venues where a confirmed COVID...-19 case has visited, including 2 in the Cairns region. The woman, in her 30s, tested positive to COVID-19 after having been in Melbourne for three days. While risk to staff and patrons is considered low, anyone who has been to these venues at these dates and times should monitor their health and if they develop any COVID-19 symptoms, or have been unwell since being at these premises, even mildly, get tested and isolate until they receive their test result. Tha Fish in Cairns on 3 October from 5.45pm to 8.30pm Vivo Palm Cove on 5 October from 5.15pm to 9:00pm The two restaurants the woman visited are to be congratulated for having good COVID-Safe plans in place, allowing our contact tracers to rapidly follow-up any potential contacts via comprehensive lists of patrons. They have both also ensured diners have been socially distancing. The full list of current contact tracing locations, including a contact tracing self assessment, is available at https://www.qld.gov.au/health/covid-19/contact-tracing. Given we have had a person in the community who may have been infectious it is vital that anyone who has symptoms or has had symptoms in the last 2 weeks no matter how mild - get tested immediately. Symptoms may include fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, lack of taste or smell, and fatigue. There is a drive-through clinic at Cairns North Community Health Centre and a Testing and Fever Clinic at Cairns Hospital. Phone 4226 4781 for an appointment (please leave a message if the line is busy and we will call you back.) To find your nearest testing clinic, visit https://www.qld.gov.au/covid19testing.
