18.01.2022 HRSA and staff would like to pass on their condolences and deepest sympathies to the Norman family after hearing of the passing of Barry Norman, who lost his ba...ttle with cancer only recently. The Norman name is synonymous with Harness Racing, with Barry playing a big part in the industry and the development of Globe Derby Park. Barry was a successful trainer in his own right and had significant success with horses such as CHANTILADE, STEPPING HANOVER, MEMPHIS and JUDICIAL, then when his boys grew and accepted more responsibility with the horses, Barry was happy to take a step back and allow Michael and Mark to take the reins. Barry was a successful business man and managed the Hilton Hotel, on South Road, for many years and then successfully managed the catering at the Paceway Restaurant at GDP for 7 years. Barry should be proud of his contribution to harness racing, along with his lovely wife Carol, and his legacy lives on through Michael and Mark and their families. Because of this the Norman name will continue to be a prominent name within harness racing and the industry will be poorer for no longer having Barry in it. Rest in Peace Barry. See more
